Which is the most significant dialect group in china and is there a ranking?

1 or 2 more generation, Hokkien will most certainly has it's eventual death in Singapore except for the swear words and some phrases, an irreversible inevitability. few Chinese Singaporeans below 35 yrs old conversed in dialects. the use of dialects for those below 20 yrs old are almost non-existent.

At least for Hokkien, you still have the swear words. For the other dialects, it will be total write off.

I would enjoy it immensely if Lim S.S were to debate at Westminster. He would be torn into shreds in no time. :D

No, not at all.
They will all put on their headphones for translation, thinking that it's a foreign language. :D

We're talking about english here not chinese. Primary school ranked top 4 huh? How many ppl taking part? 4?

With your standard of Chinese, I doubt you know what's brush and inkstone calligraphy. The Japanese kanji (Chinese characters) calligraphy competition I took part in had about 100 contestants. Mostly Japanese but with some Koreans and Chinese, including yours truly of course. My Japanese GF enrolled me in that competition when we were in San Francisco and she noticed my handwriting. It was a two-legged competition. The first leg began in SF Japantown before CNY. The top ten won free tickets to Tokyo Shinjuku for the second leg to round off on CNY with local Japanese who had their first leg there. I finished 4th with some extra prize like a few days free stay. :D

LOL you mean the Union Square area? Yeah, everynight sirens keep ringing all the way to Tenderloin, just sparing Nob Hill. Anyway, I lived in Nob Hill awhile then shifted to Rincon. :D

Hey Ramseth can ask u a question.
Do u know why your middle name is Ramseth?
Did u ask your parents?

Don't need to ask my parents. The Vincent christian name was given by pastor on baptism. The Ramseth middle name was added on by myself at the time of making first IC. The reason is because then I was very fascinated by Egyptian history and my aunties kept calling me little prince because my grandparents doted on me as first grandson. My parents raised no objection and so that was it. My full name is quite a mouthful with Christian, Egyptian, Chinese and surname in a row. :D

Here's the pt. All cos i have forgotten how to write a few chinese words on some poem doesn't mean my standard is bad. My chinese might be a lil rusty but nothing like a few refresher courses in reading a few chinese articles won't fix.

Pls lah of course i know what brush and ink stone calligraphy is. Might as well say since i cannot read ancient egyptian i don't know what hieroglyphs are.

Btw calligraphy is the ability in how to write a single or a few words. I certainly don't think it shows one's capability in writing chinese characters. You should have used some other example.

Of course, I've never made any attempt to hide my identity since old YPAP and Delphi days. 行得稳,立得正。左不改名,右不换姓。

I have English, Egyptian and Chinese names all in a row. So what? It doesn't make me a better man. That's due to racial, historical, religious reasons. Not a big big deal. A rose by any other name smells just as sweet but still has thorns. Only content in character makes me a better man.

I have unoffical Thai and Japanese names too. :D

Can share your thai name? :D

Oh ok, thanks for the reply.
