Compare the two approaches - this one by an academic at our own local university hailed by our great ambassador at large as "A very sensible analysis by a scholar from the Middle East Institute at NUS." (never mind that the article glosses over the machinations of Kushner, KSA, MBS and UAE behind the scene and the Dotard playing to his bible belters and more significantly trying to outshine whatever he perceives to be Obama's legacy) - instead he chastising Abbas for "running to Istanbul, Abbas also upset important Gulf allies." and refers to the SC as being divided (which was illustrated by the 14 to 1 smackdown as evidenced by the vote today):

UNESCO recently voted that Jews and their religion have no historical nor religious ties to Jerusalem or the Wailing Wall. UNESCO voted to rename the Western Wall by some Arabic name, clearly indicating that it is officially an Islamic shrine only. Any Jewish reference to the Wailing Wall is written in unofficial footnotes.

So why should Israel bother with the UN general assembly anymore? Did the Muslims bother with the General Assembly in 1948 when the majority of them voted to recognize Israel?

Home to the al-Aqsa mosque, the site is administered by the Waqf, a religious institution under the auspices of the Jordanian crown, which governs rights of visitation and worship, management and repairs under the so-called Status Quo agreement.

The latest version of the Unesco resolution represents Jordanian and Palestinian complaints over recent Israeli actions around the site, including archaeological excavations, tourist projects, damage to buildings and claimed lack of access for Waqf officials.

The perception that Israel was trying to alter the highly sensitive status quo – a charge denied by Israel – was one factor behind a deadly wave of violence targeting Israelis that began last autumn.

“Contrary to what the Israeli government claims, the resolution that was voted [on] by Unesco aims at reaffirming the importance of Jerusalem for the three monotheistic religions: Christianity, Judaism and Islam.

“It calls for respecting the status quo of its religious sites, including the al-Aqsa mosque compound that continues to be threatened by the systematic incitement and provocative actions of the Israeli government and extremist Jewish groups.”

“Our goal with the administration is to show value at the U.N. and the way that we’ll show value is to show our strength, show our voice, have the backs of our allies and make sure that our allies have our back as well,” Haley said.

For those that don’t have our back, we’re taking names, we will make points to respond to that accordingly,” added Republican President Donald Trump’s U.N. envoy.

Haley, who was South Carolina’s Republican governor when Trump picked her for the post, has little foreign policy and no U.S. federal government experience.

Fucking Dotard! You think Najib is scared of you? Najib is already planning to send mudboy troops to fight for Quds!

In an urgent cable to Israeli diplomatic missions, the ambassadors were asked to seek meetings with high-level officials to persuade them to direct their representatives at the UN to oppose, not to support, or at the very least not to deliver a speech at the General Assembly. Among the reasons ambassadors were told to cite are that Jerusalem was the de facto capital of Israel long before the United States recognized it as such; a resolution of this kind at the United Nations will damage American efforts toward a peace agreement in the region; the resolution will spur terror and violence in the area; and unilateral steps in the United Nations do more harm than good. The envoys will also pledge to maintain freedom of religion and the status quo in the city.

Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon said to Haaretz that “these are futile discussions with no chance. We have no doubt that the resolution will pass. However, the resolution holds no implications, and we call upon Palestinians to stop the incitement and return to the negotiating table.”

Prince Turki is a son of King Faisal, who was assassinated in 1975. His brother, Saud al-Faisal, served as foreign minister for 40 years until 2015, and their branch of the family is seen as influential over Saudi foreign policy, even as Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has solidified his authority.
Prince Saud championed a 2002 Arab peace initiative which called for normalizing relations between Arab countries and Israel in return for Israel’s withdrawal from occupied territories.
Although most foreign policy in Saudi Arabia is now overseen by Crown Prince Mohammed, a source at the King Faisal Centre for Research and Islamic Studies which Prince Turki chairs said he still meets King Salman every week.

"Our king, crown prince, government and people condemn your act, and our king advised you to retract it. For the sake of world peace and security, I hope that, this time, you will take his advice."
