What does this sort of news say about India?

To be fair to the Indians, they are a democracy with freedom of press so we are getting to see all these shit.I am sure China has some problems as well.

Having said that, I believe it will take 20 years before anyone in India will start dreaming of organising another international games again.

to be fair to the indians they are always the ones not at fault. We are a people that love to blame our own kind. Look at how we bash our own sinkies and other types of chinese regardless if they are taiwanese or china and so on.

I mean indians can screw up royally like this and it's not a big deal at all. That's why sometimes i feel it's good to be indian. No need to feel ashamed when you screw up and other races like chinese won't blame you since they'll only attack other chinese and only a minority of anal indians will blame you.

What does this say about India? That it's overhyped just like China? That GDP per capita is a stronger indicator of prosperity than GDP per se?

A child works to get the Commonwealth Games' Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium up to scratch

It has now emerged that children have built some parts of the alleged crumbling stadiums of the XIXth Commonwealth Games.

According to a Daily Star report, tots as young as three were drafted in to work on dangerous building sites to prepare for the event in Delhi.

A two-year-old girl was among up to 1,000 people killed during construction after her dad brought her to work.

Even as Games bosses try to patch up their stadiums, the child labour scandal has caused new fury around the world.

Parents working on the sites were paid in extra bread and milk if they brought their children along to help out.

One 15-year-old lad employed at the main stadium, Sri Prakash, complained the work was tough.

Pre-school children were forced to shovel pebbles into bags, which were then carried away by older children, witnesses said.

Officially 42 workers have died during construction, but sources said the true figure was "much, much higher".

Asked how many people could have died, the source replied: "It could be pushing 1,000."

Local laws say 10 percent of construction fees must go towards worker safety, but reports said that of the 5.2 million pounds set aside, just 3,200 pounds had been spent. (ANI)

He can ask all of us to show proof like we owned him one .

Besides he can change from asking us to show proof if from China or India .

Later changing to is it light stuff like sewing or construction of the stadium .

Those photos about child labour. I think the British media are going into a frenzy now. They are unfair lah. I have been to India many times and I am sure there are child labour. But those photos are more of children playing rather than child labour. It is fucking stupid lah.

I have seen children working by the roadside. Being children, they need more supervision with simple repetitive stuff. These photos more like these children are playing.

I know of the double standards of some of you here. No matter how keling land screws up oh there's always an explaination, Oh yes they are very honest about their fuck ups. This is the best excuse i have ever seen before. Man it's like they never fucked up at all.

I can gurantee you this. If those were pictures were replaced with china children instead you would not be writing about them playing.

Greg Henderson, who has won four medals at previous Games, cancelled on Friday, citing concerns over the state of facilities - a day after four British cyclists withdrew from the 3-14 October competition.

On Thursday, the BBC obtained pictures showing flooding, leaking toilets, dirty bathrooms, incomplete apartments and paw prints on beds in the athletes' village.

Delhi Games organisers have drafted in staff from the city's five-star hotels to help the last-minute scramble to get the accommodation ready.

The build-up to the event has been marred by construction delays, corruption scandals, a dengue fever outbreak, the collapse of a footbridge near the main stadium and security fears after Sunday's shooting of two tourists outside Delhi's Jama Masjid mosque.

"The Games shouldn't have been awarded to Delhi in hindsight," Australian Olympic Committee president John Coates told Australian radio on Friday.

someone pls help paste the pictures of the filthy wash basins and the paw prints on the bed here.

and now this Suresh Kalmadi has disappeared. (probably to Beijing to see if his CWG is really better than Beijing Olympics)

Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (CWG OC) Chairman Suresh Kalmadi on Saturday said the upcoming CWG even would be better than the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Kalmadi said this during "Swagatham" ceremony held to unveil the CWG theme song in Gurgaon. The song - 'Jiyo Utho Badho Jeeto'- is composed by A R Rahman.

"It is going to be the best infrastructure in the world. It is going to have the best games; better than the Beijing Olympics," Kalmadi said.

Games should not have gone to Delhi, says Australia
England's has become the first overseas team to reach Delhi, although they will stay in a hotel initially
Australia's Olympic Committee president has said the Commonwealth Games should not have been awarded to Delhi.

John Coates said the Commonwealth Games Federation lacked the resources to monitor progress and to ensure that construction deadlines were met.

England have become the first overseas team to reach Delhi, but other nations have delayed their arrivals.

A New Zealand cyclist is the ninth athlete to pull out because of health and safety fears.

End Quote Mike Fennell Commonwealth Games Federation President
"The problem is the Commonwealth Games Federation is under-resourced. It doesn't have the ability to monitor the progress of cities in the way the [International] Olympic Committee does."

Nevertheless, Mr Coates said his country's team were likely to attend.

The first England athletes - the men's hockey and the bowls teams - arrived in Delhi on Friday, although they plan to stay in hotels until Monday, when the village should be ready.

Wales said its athletes would also travel to India as planned, while Scotland said it was "increasingly optimistic" it would take part, too.

But New Zealand and Canada have delayed their arrival.

Friday was supposed to be the day when the first of 7,000 athletes began arriving in Delhi.

Commonwealth Games Federation president Mike Fennell said in a statement that "considerable improvements" had been made to the athletes' village.

But he added: "It is vital that all remedial work that has already started continues with the greatest urgency."

The first athletes, from India's team, have just moved into the accommodation.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has taken control of the crisis.

He held talks on Thursday night with his sports minister and Delhi officials.

Games organising committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi, whose team has been mired in corruption allegations, was not invited.

Other athletes who have pulled out because of health and safety fears include Australian world discus champion Dani Samuels and English world triple jump champion Phillips Idowu.

Ticket sales have been low, and the cost of hosting the largest sporting event in India's history has soared.

It has become most expensive Commonwealth Games so far, with estimates ranging up to more than $10bn (£6.3bn).

Delhi has had seven years to prepare, though very little work was done until 2008.

England is cockstucked, can't withdraw. The Head of Commonwealth is still the Queen of England. You think the English and British athletes are interested in Delhi? Do NS only. They're more interested in preventing injury and sickness to prepare for London Olympics 2012. Commonsense.
