wat do u think of those ppl who like to call ppl bro?

People call me ah pek, which is fine.

Once, my teenage grandson accidentally called me bro when we were engaged in a light hearted conversation. I looked him square in the eyes and said, I am not your bro, I am your fucking grandfather. He never made that mistake again.

they also like to greet each other with “nigga”. “yo nigga. wassup!” “no good mofo. no crack today.”

no lah. I think bro is our version of bud, pal, mate. Just a casual friendly way to address a guy. I don't place too much weight on it though.

conservative right wing males call each “dude” while liberal leftist progressive metrosexual males call each other “bro”. “bro” started becumming popular in sf during the 1st pride parade thru’ castro street. it was never uttered in sg during my time there in 60s, 70s, 80s, and it was never used in the u.s. main street up till recently. sexual media, oops social media, propagated it when too many beta males and faggots use faecesbook and instagramma to hook up.

Yes I think it started to become popular here after 2000-ish. Because of western influence lah, But "bro" does not carry the same meaning here as it does overseas. Like I said, it's simply a casual and friendly way to address a guy here. Be it a stranger to show appreciation or to a buddy or friend.

hollywood also popularized it by bringing up the bromance of pitt and clooney.

i though it is the christian brotherhood thing....after yr-2000, many people I met on business or social circles start to "bro" me here and there and mostly tell me they go to church or one of the weekday night to church service......

I think it's a cultural thing. For Indians or at least Tamils, it's the accepted form of address. Even with Malays, everyone calls each other abang adik. I think bro comes from absorbing Indian/Malay culture. At least I think...
