Kenneth Ma Plans for 2023 Wedding

1668520912009.png

As quarantine restrictions loosen up with the easing pandemic, Kenneth Ma (馬國明) and Roxanne Tong (湯洛雯) are ready to act on their wedding plans.

The couple is considering getting married while on vacation next year. As Roxanne loves Europe, Kenneth is considering getting married where they had attended university, either in England or Canada. The couple is uncertain whether they will hold a banquet afterward.

Taking into account that Kenneth will be busying filming at the start of the new year, the ideal time to get married would be mid 2023. When prompted whether he has already proposed, Kenneth remains mysterious and will reveal more information to everyone at a later time.

Attending TVB’s 2023 sales presentation recently, Kenneth shares about his experience vacationing with Roxanne in Japan. “Roxanne did most of the planning, such as where we should visit, what and where we should eat, what time we should wake up, and the general daily itinerary. I was only responsible for driving to where she wanted to go that day. She is great at planning things, and has attention for details. I always joke that she is in the wrong career and should really be in the traveling or tourism field.”

On whether the couple experienced any arguments, disagreements, or rifts during vacation, Kenneth honestly expressed, “I don’t believe there is a couple who is 100 percent compatible with one another in this world. There are certainly areas where a couple is incompatible–it is important to compromise and be understanding and accommodate each other to go through life together in the long run.”

Samantha Ko and Lai Lok Yi Renew TVB Contracts

1668607563184.png

TVB has been facing a shortage of leading artistes after many decided to not renew their contracts. TVB sweetened the deal when renegotiating Lai Lok Yi (黎諾懿) and Samantha Ko‘s (高海寧) contracts, allowing greater freedom in their work.

Although working with TVB often means high exposure rates in international markets, many artistes hope to diversify their skills as well. Aside from his hosting gigs, Stephen Cheng (C君) became the Creative Director for J2 and co-produced Ghost Cleaning Ltd <凶宅清潔師> with Tony Hung (洪永城). Despite winning TV Queen, Natalie Tong (唐詩詠) left the company to work on a self-directed and scripted show where she will be the sole actress. She is also writing a script for a theater play.

Understanding artistes’ desires to develop their careers on multiple levels, TVB customized Lok Yi’s renewal contract to include opportunities for behind-the-scenes work for the first time ever. Lok Yi will set a new a precedent as his first self-produced variety series Walking with You <仨心友行> and Roar of Prosperity 2022 <虎年開運秘笈> had received good feedback. Working for TVB for over 20 years, Lai Lok Yi’s opportunities dwindled after executive Sandy Tsui (余詠珊) left the company. Although his drama Who Wants a Baby? < BB來了> with Ali Lee (李佳芯) received great reviews, he was not invited to star in the sequel Plan B <寶寶大過天>. The thought of leaving the company had crossed his mind when he felt the company did not prioritize him.

Contract negotiations with Lok Yi were at a standstill until Eric Tsang (曾志偉) reached out personally. In the end, Lok Yi agreed to extend his contract after being offered a generous seven-figure salary and great future opportunities. It is said that his new contract will be for two years, during which he must film one drama and focus on variety shows the rest of the time. To show sincerity, TVB asked Lok Yi to help produce next year’s Yan Chai Charity Show <慈善星輝仁濟夜>. The process of preparing for the show will be filmed as a reality show, revealing the hard work artistes put in as they transition to behind-the-scenes work.

Confirming that he has signed a new contract, Lok Yi is unable to divulge details due to confidentiality reasons. “All I can say is that talks went well, and that they offered a satisfactory salary. I’ll have more opportunities to try new things soon, so I’m very excited.”

TVB had also worked hard to retain Samantha Ko (高海寧) as her contract was negotiated for nearly two years. TVB successfully persuaded her to stay by promising to develop her career in China.

Nancy Wu On Being Deleted from “Mission Run” Poster

1668692155254.png

Despite her significant role in Shaw Brothers’ Mission Run <廉政狙擊>, Nancy Wu (胡定欣) was noticeably deleted from the poster. The 41-year-old actress sidestepped questions about the issue due to potential political sensitivity.

In an old social media post, Nancy wrote “Standing united…tonight I feel it! I’m not good with words, I only hope that Hong Kong and (tomorrow) can become better!” Some Chinese netizens interpreted Nancy’s comment as pro-Hong Kong’s independence, which resulted in Shaw Brothers’ decision to downplay Nancy’s involvement in the drama during promotions.

Although many fans have their theories, Nancy firmly said, “I’m at an event today so I won’t comment on this! Things related to the drama will be taken care of by the production team.”

When pressed further, Nancy laughed and reassured that she did partake in the filming. “I’m in it–I did film the drama! However, I won’t be answering anything else today. Don’t worry so much though– I’ll wait for further information and instruction from the company. I still have two dramas that haven’t aired yet. I’m sure they’ll start airing sometime in 2023. Aside from Mission Run, I still have Narcotics Heroes <破毒強人>. I’m super excited for these dramas since I really like both my characters.”

Smiling at the event, Nancy did not show any signs of distress and continuously reassured netizens that she still has a contract with Shaw Brothers, and she will clear up the misunderstanding soon.

Bosco Wong and Venus Wong On Their Roles in “Forensic Heroes V”

1668951897842.png

The fifth installment of the popular crime scene investigation franchise, Forensic Heroes V <法證先鋒V>, is airing to lukewarm reception. Despite the popularity of the first two installments, the subsequent follow-ups were criticized for their robotic scripts and lack of character development. Hoping to bring back to the success of its predecessors, Forensic Heroes V invited Bosco Wong (黃宗澤) to star in the lead role.

Viewers were excited to see Bosco return to the small screen and were looking forward to his romantic storyline with Venus Wong (王敏奕). Despite the addition of Benjamin Yuen (袁偉豪), Sisley Choi (蔡思貝), and Tony Hung (洪永城), the drama failed to match the success of the first two series.

Despite their romantic arc, Bosco and Venus do not get together until the very last episode and did not have any intimate scenes. On their collaboration, Bosco humorously joked that filming the series was similar to being sent on a world-class mission to protect his “sister-in-law,” as Venus is married to TVB General Manager, Eric Tsang’s (曾志偉) son, Derek Tsang (曾國祥). Venus deflected and said, “That has nothing to do with it. [Bosco] plays hard to get in the series.”

As this is their second collaboration, Bosco praised Venus for her acting improvement. Compared to when they were filming for Flying Tiger <飛虎之潛行極戰>, Venus is more calm and put together. Venus responded, “I am someone who gets nervous easily, especially when filming opposite experienced actors. I watched Bosco’s drama, Aqua Heroes <戀愛自由式>, when I was in high school!”

Recalling one of the more difficult scenes, Bosco shared that he had to act in front of a green screen for an underwater scene. “Wearing a wire and trying to pretend to swim is quite difficult. The scene came out quite good though and realistic. However, it definitely took a toll on my hips. Fortunately, I’m fine.”

Hawick Lau Has New Love Interest

1669035841637.png

After rounds of ”wrong guesses” and speculation by netizens, Chinese media finally snapped 48 year-old Hawick Lau (劉愷威) with his new romantic interest – 40-year-old Chinese actress Cherry Li Xiaofeng (李曉峰), who turns out to be Yang Mi‘s (楊冪) “BFF” in hotly airing drama She and Her Perfect Husband <愛的二八定律>!

Since his divorce in 2018, Hawick’s relationship status has been under the limelight. The actor, who has had few rumors, was snapped sweetly holding hands with a girl on the streets which led netizens to speculate who his new girlfriend was. Alas, it was a case of mistaken identity when they initially named actress Una You (尤靖茹). She quickly denied the rumor by posting photographic proof that she was undergoing quarantine in Ningbo at that time.

Just as netizens continued their guess game, there was news that Hawick was spotted at Hangzhou’s Jingshansi with his new girlfriend, whom the netizen correctly named as Cherry Li. Looking their social media profiles, netizens discovered that the two donned the same brand of caps and trousers. On October 18, a video of the two dating on the streets surfaced online that had captured front views of the couple! Dressed in thick winter wear, Hawick and Cherry allegedly proceeded for a swap test and left together, with Cherry behind Hawick as the two sweetly held hands.

Interviewed by a Hong Kong paper yesterday, Hawick was protective of his new girlfriend and thus did not reveal much, but generously admitted to his new romance. “Thanks for everyone’s blessings, we are doing well. We have got along for some time and was introduced by mutual friends. We have very compatible personalities and get along comfortably and happily! The relationship is going well, thanks for everyone’s concern,”

Busy with filming popular program Call Me By Fire <披荊斬棘> in recent months while touring various Chinese cities on a play performance, Hawick was hospitalized with high fever once, and Cherry had likely taken care of Hawick during that time. Coincidentally, Cherry and Yang Mi play good friends onscreen in the hotly discussed drama, while she is now dating her ex-husband offscreen – leaving netizens marveling at the incredible “plot development” in real life!

Despite their low profile, Hawick and Cherry have left traces of their blossoming romance online such as respectively updating with photos of the temple they visited, mutually liking each other’s photos, and posting similar carved pumpkins on Halloween. Cherry also left red heart and kiss emojis beneath Hawick’s posts, while Hawick speedily gave his thumbs up when she posted gorgeous pictures of herself.

Jessica Hsuan and Philip Keung “Unwilling” to Get Off Work

1669381122797.png

Jessica Hsuan (宣萱), Philip Keung (姜皓文), ERROR, Peter Lai (黎彼得) and Angie Cheong (張慧儀) attended the prayer ceremony for upcoming ViuTV original drama <極度俏郎君>. Playing a divorced couple, it is Philip and Jessica’s first collaboration with Cantopop group ERROR, and everyone had such an enjoyable time that they did not want to knock off work!

Philip’s Dog Sniffs Jessica On Him?
Their second collaboration since the movie One Shot <一線生機>, Jessica and Philip shared that they had such a good time on set that it was the first time they could not bear to end work during filming!

Complaining that 20 episodes was not enough, Philip said, “Everyone got along really well, especially with Jessica around, my entire family loves her and when my dog sniffed her aroma on me when I got home, he immediately leaped over,” Jessica praised the ERROR members as very hardworking, and said that the group’s fans brought plenty of food and drinks on set for the cast. “Their characters and themselves are all very comedic, while my character is more serious, so I was worried my emotions would get swayed by them,”

Asked what she felt about her first ViuTV production and what it meant defying TVB, Jessica replied that she did not have too many considerations. “I’ll head wherever there is a good script and good roles, viewership is not something which actors can control,” she said, and added that she remains open to any collaboration with TVB as long as the role suits her. Unbelievably, it is also her first time working with Angie, the two being colleagues back at TVB.

Philip, who was asked about being the initial casting choice for the male lead role in Get On a Flat <下流上車族> (now played by Andrew Lam 林敏驄), said that he had indeed been in talks with TVB back then, and had seen the script but not inked the contract. Praising Andrew for his great acting, Philip said, “I wanted to do a comedy at that time, and TVB immediately came up with a story for me, but in the end I didn’t get to participate, I do feel a little apologetic.”

Sharing that he had liked Angie since he was young, ERROR member Poki Ng (保錡) is happy to have the chance to act opposite her this time.

Denice Lam Denies Sex Tape Leak

1669551707317.png

Seemingly mired in endless controversies since winning the Miss Hong Kong 2022 pageant, Denice Lam (林鈺洧) has made a police report after allegations of a sex tape leak. The 27-year-old said that she had heard news of a screenshot of herself which she initially ignored, but the rumors later blew up and she decided to report the matter to protect herself.

Denies Being Woman in Sex Tape

Claiming to have insider news of the Miss Hong Kong winner being drugged and raped, the source offered two photos and a video to media, which allegedly included one with Denice’s face and another of her half-undressed and behaving intimately with an unidentified male in bed. However, those who have seen the materials surmised that the woman in the photos allegedly did not resemble Denice, and the video footage too was suspected to be excerpts from Japanese pornographic films.

Another recent rumor emerged that Denice participated in the contest for the prize money, as she had chalked up HKD500K in card debts. Amid the ongoing war of words between her estranged parents Wilson Lam (林俊賢) and mother Jasmine amid the two’s mutual allegations of mistreatment and abuse, it was revealed that Denice had taken a DNA test at Wilson’s request before the two’s reconciliation happened after many years.
Adding that she will not comment further on her parents’ matters, Denice recently shared about having moved out and learning to support herself at the young age of thirteen.

Interviewed about the sex tape scandal, Denice had responded “Just one look and you’ll know it is not me”. Thanking her company TVB for the trust and support, the 27-year-old added that she would not let the matter affect her and will quickly adjust herself psychologically.

2022 TVB Anniversary Awards: Joel Chan Leads With 15 Nominations

1669729696220.png

With TVB’s Anniversary Awards taking place on January 8, 2023, the station unveiled nominations in the 16 awards categories. Many of the nominations are expected, but there are some that leave many scratching their heads!

Fight for Best Actor

With four Best Actor nominations, Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) is nominated for I’ve Got the Power <超能使者>, Against Darkness <黯夜守護者>, My Mom, My Ping Pong <回歸光影頌:母親的乒乓球>, and The Righteous Fists <鐵拳英雄>. His strongest rival is Joel Chan (陳山聰), who has three nominations, and dark horse candidate Andrew Lam (林敏驄). Grateful for the opportunities at TVB, Ruco said the most important thing for an actor is to “give the audience a sense of novelty and that they like your character. As for awards, I’ll leave that up to fate.”

With the most nominations among all artistes, Joel has a total of 15 nominations in the Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, My Favorite Onscreen Couple, and My Favorite Male Character categories. Joel is very pleased with his results this year. “I’ll leave it in the hands of the audience–I believe they can see my hard work and will vote for what their heart believe in!”

Although Andrew Lam’s performance in Get On a Flat <下流上車族> resonates with viewers, the actor was not invited by TVB to the press conference. Asked if he feels that he is being slighted, he said “I had to attend?” Reporters told him that he is a hot favorite for Best Actor and he replied, “Not sure– I don’t know. I didn’t look into it, and it doesn’t matter. Finished!”

Other usual contenders for Best Actor include: Kenneth Ma (馬國明), Roger Kwok (郭晉安), Shaun Tam (譚俊彥), Joe Ma (馬德鐘), and Benjamin Yuen (袁偉豪). Among the youngest contender for Best Actor is 27-year-old Kalok Chow (周嘉洛), who led comedic hit it Your Highness < 痞子殿下>.

Shaun feels relaxed over this year’s awards and will personally be rooting for Joel to win. Nominated for for Best Actor with Big White Duel 2 <白色強人Ⅱ>, Kenneth hopes the drama can sweep all the awards categories and will support fellow cast mates Roger and Moses Chan (陳豪). Kenneth is also happy that his girlfriend Roxanne Tong (湯洛雯) is nominated for My Favorite TV Character; he will be voting for her and also help her campaign!

Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress

While Natalie Tong (唐詩詠) leads with four nominations, she is no longer with the station and her chances are significantly reduced. Absent at the press conference, she is happy all of her dramas have already broadcast and they are in different genres.

1669729785980.png

Moon Lau (劉佩玥) and Rebecca Zhu (朱晨麗), who are supporting actresses in The Beauty of War <美麗戰場>, are surprisingly competing for Best Actress.

Although Angel Chiang (蔣家旻) has the same amount of screen time in the drama, she is nominated for Best Supporting Actress, which makes it highly plausible that she will win the award. On the other hand, Elaine Yiu (姚子羚) who is a leading actress in The Righteous Fists <鐵拳英雄> appears to be demoted as she is nominated for Supporting Actress.

Up-and-coming actress Hera Chan (陳曉華) has three nominations, leading over Jeannie Chan (陳瀅), Sisley Choi (蔡思貝), Katy Kung (龔嘉欣), Alice Wai (陳煒), Selena Lee (李施嬅), Samantha Ko (高海寧), and Elena Kong (江美儀) in total nominations.

Another oddity is upcoming December drama, Go With the Float <輕.功>, is nominated for many awards before it is even broadcast!

While TVB dramas have unsteady viewership in recent years, the Anniversary Gala on November 19 achieved viewership points of 25.7. In China, the gala was streamed 1.107 billion times, proving interest is still high in the station’s biggest celebratory event of the year!

Jeannie Chan to Spend Christmas in Canada

1669816681107.png

With the holidays coming up, Canadian native Jeannie Chan (陳瀅) will be returning home to visit her family in Vancouver.

At a shopping mall in Tsim Sha Tsui to celebrate the beginning of the Christmas season, Jeannie wore an eye catching, low-cut fuchsia evening gown complete with a train. It also had a high slit showing off her pale legs. As Jeannie almost had a wardrobe malfunction at a recent promotion for The Beauty of War <美麗戰場>, she was very careful this time to prevent it from happening again. She disclosed that she wore four pairs of safety shorts and stuck on lots of double-sided tape to prevent accidental exposure.

During the Christmas break, Jeannie is looking forward to her two-week vacation. Asked if she plans to go clubbing to meet men, Jeannie said that she and her sister plan to go to Las Vegas and that she is actually quite traditional and likes dating Chinese men. She will then return to Hong Kong to prepare for the TVB Anniversary Awards in January.

As rival Katy Kung’s (龔嘉欣) drama Treasure of Destiny <新四十二章> was suddenly pulled from the broadcast lineup this year which puts her out of the running for awards, reporters asked Jeannie whether she felt this will increase her chances of winning. She joked that she is most confident about winning Best Dressed again but she has not found an outfit yet because she is scared that she will gain weight after going to Japan and Vancouver.

Venus Wong Patches Up Marriage With Derek Tsang

1669984245777.png

Separated from her husband Derek Tsang (曾國祥) for a year due to work, Venus Wong (王敏奕) opens up about her time of solitude and how they overcame this hardship together.

After six years of dating, Venus and Derek got married in 2019. Divorce rumors suddenly filled the air in April, when Derek’s photos started disappearing from Venus’s social media. In addition, it was said that Venus went to get their couple tattoo erased from her finger.

Vehemently denying the divorce rumors, Venus explained that the two were in a long-distance relationship for a year shortly after their wedding. Not used to Derek not being around, Venus expressed her loneliness and helplessness.

“Thinking back, it was a really difficult time for us. The hardest part is not just being apart physically, but unable to talk to the person when you want to. I would worry about him, and we our conversations weren’t very deep when we chatted on the phone,” Venus said. When she felt tired after a long day, Venus just wanted something as simple as “come home to someone pouring a glass of water” for her.

Taking some time off to finally go on their honeymoon, the two flew to Italy to turn a new leaf in their marriage. When asked if Venus would transition into a traditional housewife, she finds joy in her career and will continue working. Venus expressed that their marriage is now stronger than ever.

Refusing Work as a Married Couple

After signing with TVB, Venus has received many opportunities to shine, including Forensic Heroes 5 <法證先鋒V> opposite Bosco Wong (黃宗澤).

With her love of acting and Derek’s skills in directing, it is surprising that the two have never collaborated together in the past. “We’re both past the point of working together. We try hard not to cross paths unless it’s absolutely necessary. He’s a perfectionist and a very serious person when he’s working – I don’t want work to put a strain on our relationship.”

Sharon Chan Launches Skincare Line

1670077083893.png

An enthusiastic entrepreneur, Sharon Chan (陳敏之), 43, is slowly reducing her screen time. Appearing in ICAC Investigators 2022 <廉政⾏動2022> and Against Darkness <黯夜守護者> this year, Sharon intends to focus more on her new business venture after dropping a seven-figure investment.

In 2014, Sharon launched her own cookie business which is now thriving. She has been able to hand off a lot of the duties to her business partner. Taking the lessons she has learned from her first venture, Sharon is confident the timing is perfect for her new skincare label despite the recent economic downturn.

Entering the beauty world has been Sharon’s dream for many years. SHAGIC is a combination of her name Sharon and the word magic. “I want people to find magic through my brand, with my products making them both beautiful and confident. The brand name was actually conceived by my brother, his girlfriend, my husband and I. My brother is in marketing, and he said that I should retain some sort of element of my own name. He advised that I shouldn’t start my first business without my own name. I want people to think of me when they want to become beautiful.”

Agreeing that products aimed at women are highly lucrative, Sharon believes the most important thing for small business owners is to ensure excellent product quality. Once business grows in the future, she will consider expanding into mass production.

Always a Balancing Act

Working at TVB for over 20 years, Sharon’s contract has not ended yet. She will still be partaking in various shows and programs. Due to her good relationship with TVB, the station can accommodate Sharon’s schedule in running her new business.

Between balancing family and career, Sharon said, “My in-laws think I’m superwoman, and my mom is worried about my health!” However, Sharon believes it is important to pursue her dreams while she “still has the energy” and wants to build the business for her son to manage one day.

Starting a new business is physically draining, but soul satisfying. “Filming and acting can be done anytime but if I lose this fire for my business, it’ll be hard to gain back….I only sleep for a couple of hours and I would start working after dropping off my son at school. I would eat dinner with different work partners as well. When I finally go home, it’s ‘Me Time’ – I would shower and then watch some TV with my husband. That’s also the time when I can finally play the role of a wife.”

Although her husband William Lui is a successful businessman, Sharon invested in SHAGIC herself. “He loves me very much, and would support me despite worrying about my wellbeing. He understands the hardships of starting a business, especially during the initial stages when everything is slow and has to be done by myself.”

Lai Lok Yi Had a Crush on Nancy Wu 20 Years Ago

1670426878045.png

Working for TVB for 20 years, Nancy Wu (胡定欣) and Lai Lok Yi’s (黎諾懿) efforts and loyalty were acknowledged with a 20th year service award.

An unknow fact to many, Nancy and Lok Yi were actually in the same TVB acting class. Lok Yi expressed, “When people learn about this, they are usually shocked, because Nancy kept up her looks so well. She looks the same as when she first started in the entertainment industry!” Recalling when they collaborated on acting out a scene from a costume drama as part of their exam, he shared, “I don’t think I did very well in the exam. While Nancy immediately got cast in roles after graduation, I did nothing for a several years!”

Nancy feels that everyone’s journey is different. “One day, I had a few drinks at home and happened to watch a show that Lok Yi hosted. I immediately sent him a voice message. When I first met him, I didn’t know he was such a good cook. Now, he can use this skill to expand his work.”

Lok Yi added, “She sent me a few messages, and each of them were two or three minutes long! When messages are that long, it’s usually something bad. However, those were actually messages of encouragement. I’ve kept those messages until now. When I get the chance to interview her in the future, I’ll share these messages.”

Having won Best Actress twice, Nancy was asked what her new goals are. Pointing out that Lok Yi has found success in both his career and personal life, she also hopes to have a family of her own.

When asked whether he will play matchmaker for Nancy, Lok Yi expressed that Nancy has many choices and does not need matchmaking. He went on to admit that he had a crush on Nancy during that acting class days, “However, I hid my feelings and never said anything. Timing is very important. At the time, I didn’t have a career going, so I don’t dare pursue her.” On whether his wife, Nicole Lee (李潔瑩) will be upset about his admission, Lok -Yi confidently shook his head, “I’m not afraid. She knows I like to blurt out random things.”

TVB Ratings Remain Stable Despite World Cup Threat

1670676179599.png

TVB released last week’s ratings report, in which dramas had stable viewership averaging above 20 points despite the FIFA World Cup’s broadcast by rival station ViuTV.

Family sitcom Come Home Love: Lo and Behold <愛·回家之開心速遞> continues to reign, with a high of 21.2 points which translates to 1.38 million viewers. Anniversary series Forensic Heroes 5 <法證先鋒V> peaked at 21.7 points and 1.41 million viewer, and I’ve Got the Power <超能使者> reached a high of 20.7 points and 1.35 million viewers.

Ratings in the travel show category were quite good possibly due to the current travel craze led by the loosening of travel restrictions. Across Borders <遊走世界天與地> hosted by Priscilla Wong (黃翠如) achieved a high of 16 points and Japan: 45-Day Itinerary <45日環遊日本> hosted by Lesley Chiang (姜麗文), Bowie Cheung (張寶兒), and James ‘Akio’ Xiang (項明生) achieved 17.4 points.

In the variety show category, Super Trio Returns <開心無敵獎門人> was the winner with a high of 24.1 points and 1.56 million viewers. The annual Tung Wah Charity Show <歡樂滿東華> received 18.4 points and 126 million Chinese Yuan in donations, breaking last year’s record.

Hera Chan Sleeps on Car Mattress Due to Crazy Work Hours

1670855297865.png

Promoted with endless opportunities since winning the Miss Hong Kong 2018 crown, Hera Chan (陳曉華) is currently filming Supernatural Sense <異空感應> with Carlos Chan (陳家樂). TVB is known for grueling hours, and lead stars often only sleep two hours every day during a project. Filming indoor studio and outdoor scenes nonstop, Hera’s health is crashing due to the lack of sleep.

“It was really bad a few days ago, and I thought I would fall ill. However, filming a running scene gave me a shot of energy. Exercise is really important. A lot of times we’re just sitting around waiting to film, so moving helps freshen you up,” the 27-year-old actress admits.

The new drama’s filming schedule is quite grueling and she feels that she has become quite hardy. Although the weather is getting colder, Hera has been sleeping in her car overnight. “Sometimes there is only one hour of break, so there is no point in going home. I bought a mattress, so that I can sleep for a bit in the car. Sometimes I’ll take a nap in the car during my lunch break as well.”

Although she is quite tired, she still believes that she is a safe driver because she will become very alert when she has to drive. She will likely have more time to rest after all the outdoor scenes are finished filming.

Nominated for Best Actress and Most Improved Female Actress at this year’s TVB Anniversary Awards, Hera continues to strive for improvement. For her new role, Hera admits “the most challenging aspect is lacking sleep, so I constantly have to remind myself to get back into filming mode. I also told the crew to tell me if there are any problems so I can improve.”

Nancy Wu Gets “Second Chance” in China After Political Controversy

1670940035646.png

Hong Kong and China’s recent political climate has affected several artistes’ careers. In addition to Ali Lee (李佳芯) losing out on jobs and work in China, Nancy Wu (胡定欣) was also in a precarious position earlier.

One of Nancy’s social media posts were considered to have connotations of “pro-Hong Kong independence.” Due to the sensitive issue, her image was removed from the poster of Mission Run <廉政狙擊> despite her role being as hefty as Bosco Wong (黃宗澤), Ron Ng (吳卓羲), Vincent Wong (王浩信), and Sisley Choi (蔡思貝).

Careful to not have the issue magnified before it can be cleared up, Nancy remained tightlipped and sidestepped questions about her political stance at press events. It seems that her luck has finally turned. When the Mission Run production team published a set of photos for its December 10th broadcast on Chinese streaming platform Youku, Nancy’s character photo was shared as well, which seems to indicate that the controversy has cleared.

Commenting on the issue recently, Nancy coolly expressed, “If they are airing Mission Run, then everything is fine! I am looking forward to this drama being aired, because my character is quite different from my role in Big White Duel 2 <白色強人II>. My character in Mission Run has a very strong persistence when it comes to exacting revenge. However, she cannot seek revenge by mere physical force.”

Venus Wong Calls Brian Chu a “Boring” Costar

1671028903403.png

Finally taking on his first lead role after 12 years in the industry, Brian Chu (朱敏瀚) will be partnering with Venus Wong (王敏奕) in Virtual Lover <虛擬情人>. Working together for the first time, Venus calls Brian a “boring” costar.

In the drama, Brian plays an AI robot created by Venus to be her virtual lover. Although this is his first leading role, Brian does not feel too stressed and praises Venus for being hard working and professional. “We’ve been filming for 10 days, and everything is going really smoothly. I was eating dinner with the Your Highness <痞子殿下> cast yesterday and they are jealous that I have such a great costar.”

Venus laughed and said they both have similar personalities and are quite boring. “When we’re on set, we’re always talking about acting. He’s just like me, and doesn’t know how to communicate with people!”

Single since breaking up with Stitch Yu (余思霆) in August, Brian was asked if it is hard to meet romantic partners due to his boring personality. Brian shyly replied that he does not have any time this year. “I’ll just go with the flow. It’s not like once you decide that you’re ready to date, there will be a girl waiting. My only requirement is that we can’t affect each other’s work, which needs to come first.”

Since Venus is TVB General Manager Eric Tsang’s (曾志偉) daughter-in-law, most actors behave cautiously during filming of intimate scenes. Venus joked, “I’ve already filmed much more daring scenes in Happily Ever After? <婚後事>. This drama is much tamer.” She added that she never has to “report” to her husband Derek Tsang (曾國祥) before filming such scenes.

Bucking the trend of declining ratings for TVB, revenge drama Modern Dynasty <家族榮耀> was the station’s top-watched production for the year. With a stellar cast of Tavia Yeung (楊茜堯), Chilam Cheung (張智霖), Rain Li (李彩華) and Him Law (羅子溢), it peaked at 28.6 ratings points and sparked avid viewer discussions. Already confirmed to have a 30-episode spin-off, “TVB graduate” actor Raymond Lam (林峯) will be pulled in to pump up ratings!

A New Story
While the finale episode of Modern Dynasty had hinted at a sequel, television veteran and Modern Dynasty producer Tommy Leung (梁家樹) stated that though it belonged to the “family” lineup, the new series is not a sequel to “Modern Dynasty”, but will be an “entirely new story”. Confirming online rumors, Tommy said that he had approached Raymond Lam to join in the leading cast of the as yet unnamed spinoff. Asked about further casting information, he added that the script is still very much in the works as at the moment, and will provide further updates once confirmed. According to online sources, much of the upcoming series will be filmed in Malaysia.

When news broke about Raymond joining the cast of the Modern Dynasty spin-off, netizens quickly expressed excitement about the likelihood of Raymond and Rain Li reuniting onscreen – the two had a short-lived romance back in the 2000s after co-starring in romantic film Stolen Love <別戀>, but ended their relationship as they each pursued their respective careers leaving little time spent together.
