He can start off by telling us what he intends to do with the 99 year lease terms should the oppo win the next election. Automatic extension for another 99 years for everyone who owns an HDB flat? 50 year extension? That would make a mockery of the laws of the land and severely penalise those who paid a premium for freehold properties.

And what about those private condos with a 99 year lease? Would he extend the lease for them too?

If there's an extension it would probably be at the market rate of the land cost...as for private condos we have to look at case studies of old condos that have chosen to demolish and sell off their land to a redeveloper.....freehold is probably more likely to do it....although leasehold might too if there's been massive appreciation of land value over time.

The economist in me says to leave the 99 year lease as it is....let nature and market forces deal with it it's own way,things tend to get worse when u tamper with the forces of economic nature.

The government is doing the right thing in taxing cars heavily because vehicles are the bane of all societies. They take up far too much space and the infrastructure that caters to cars are a big blot on any cityscape.

Nobody is faulting the policy of controlling the cr population. It's the implementation that's questionable and telling.
Having the existing fixed quota but with a fixed amount per vehicle and based on drawing lots could be another method to control car population.
However, the primary objective of the PAP's solution is 'Making Money'. It's making the people to Pay and Pay for a 10-year rental vehicle. Furthermore, such a system can be easily manipulated. It 's also a system that benefits and pleases the rich. The ruLEEng PAP LEEders has never been fair to the people of Singapore.

The problem with the oppos is that they are always full on when it comes to criticism but fall way short on policy and when they do suggest policy it is invariably pie-in-the-sky stuff that ignores reality or evokes resentment by playing the politics of envy.

2. MPs’ allowance should be 10 times the mean wage of the bottom 20th percentile (based on the assumption that there is a minimum wage in place).
3. Ministers should be paid three times the MP allowance; the prime minister should be paid four times that amount. Based on our recommendations the prime minister would likely paid $56,000 a month and a minister $42,000. These wages are more than fair.

Even a half fucked OKT can earn more than $56,000 per month you expect the PM to work for less than a pimp???
