I didn't know Singapore was this beautiful in the 1970's. And Singapore is still beautiful today. My grandma sang this song in 1971 when she was 21 years old. She still remembers the lyrics to this day. She's 73 now.

Oh yes those were the happy days of our lives. I remember we were the only Malay family that grew up in Chitty Road at that time. Not only did we played with the other kids of all races from that stretch of road but also with kids from Upper Perak Road, Weld Road, Veerasamy Road, Hindu Road and Rowell Road. When my dad bought a Korting TV, neighbours came to our house to watch as well. During Singapore Grand Prix season at Thomson Road, we went down to Sungei Road to look for ball-bearing wheels and made our own race-cars. Some used old wheels from baby prams. We raced up and down that stretch of houses, one driver to sit and steer and one other to push. What games did we not played? When one of our Chinese neighbour played for a basketball team "The Sukiyaki" at the CC across the road, all my brothers and sisters came to support. Even though we are muslims, we went into the Kampong Kapor Methodist Church to sing songs, played games and watch movies with all the kids. Oh yes those were the happy days of our lives.

---- he very smart lor. He didn't mention Desker Road.

Ahead of the rest. Now it seems, everyone has caught up. Just like Hong Kong. Early 2000, communist look at hong kong like Nirvana. Today, it's just like any other ordinary Chinese city.

Wow
New Modern Singapore serves additional ingredients in soup

Diner says she found a cockroach in her bowl of soup, while the eatery manager says, “We don’t know if it came from our shop”

We can divide Singapore time period into pre and post Internet years, that would be around 1995. This is important because it meant whether PAP able to control the narrative.

He speaks excellent English. Passed away in 2019 at the age of 87.

There is actually no need to keep on pushing to be ahead of the rest after a country is a developed first world. Now with 3rd world influx, Sg has so many happenings.

Communist had all along the intention to strip HK of their financial prowess and move it to Shanghai, same time tame Hong Kongers, cannot go independent like Taiwan, not democratic to vote for their desired president.

New Singapore is richer. Old Singapore u richer.

But not fair lah
Modern color
Old black & white

Then and Now - Singapore

When I did this video, I came to realise that Singapore has changed tremendously in such a short span of time. It was comparatively a third world progression to the first. The photos are not totally mine. I took some photos from my dad's collection and friends in social media. I am sure there are many other places where old structures have stood over the test of time and have modern buildings erected around it. Hope you can share with me more locations that are similar to the theme of this video.

Seriously, I always have my char kway teow mai hum.
When I used to tell that to the hawker he would give me a weird look and tried to convince me to let him use the bloody water without the hum.
They would tell me that without the hum no char kway teow taste. I would tell him ok. I still cannot make myself eat the hum.

I also leemember during my NS days my good platoon mate would always tell me to tar pao char kway teow for him with live hum ie have the hawker put the hum on top once the kway teow is cooked.
Those were the good old days.
