After the GE, I have gone back to help out in the Meet the People Sessions of Show Mao and Faisal in the Paya Lebar and Kaki Bukit divisions of Aljunied GRC.

Yesterday, I also attended the monthly food distribution session at Paya Lebar division of Aljunied GRC in my capacity as a representative of the WP Community Fund (WPCF).

Last night, it was great to see many happy Bedok North residents attending our Aljunied GRC-Kaki Bukit division's mid-autumn festival event. Like our other mid-autumn festival events elsewhere in Aljunied GRC these two weeks, it was very well attended by residents.

It has been really nice interacting with Aljunied residents in all these events as well as catching up with familiar residents after the GE. I thank all supportive residents for their feedback, encouragement and support. I would encourage all our fellow Aljunied volunteers to continue to improve our services for residents in the coming five years.

I hope to continue serving in Aljunied GRC as well as to continue WP's outreach in Fengshan. I have been at Fengshan a few times a week, meeting up or chatting with residents, stall holders and shop keepers. I hope to continue to interact freely with residents and in the process get to know more residents and also listening to your feedback. Please feel free to approach me and talk to me or give me any feedback you may have when you see me in Fengshan or, as many of you are already doing, communicate with me online. This communication process is also important for my role as a Non-Constituency MP.

Sweetie,
I wrote the following note several years ago on the eve of more "senior" exams. You may want to read it, since I know you get butterflies in your stomach thinking about the the first day of PSLE tomorrow.

Dad
PS I won't write you anything in Chinese since you say that your "mother tongue" is Singlish wink emoticon

To my young friends,

Some of you (and some of your parents) wrote to me about the great weight you feel on your shoulders as you sit for your "O" levels, "A" levels and other exams. I remember that feeling from my schooldays, made many times worse by my imaginings of the terrible fate that would befall me if I did not do well in my exams.

Looking back, with the benefit of hindsight from years of living and working, I see how such fears were wholly unnecessary and, worse, counter productive -- just like yours now ... you'd have to take my word for it. Make up your mind that whatever happens at these exams you will keep going forward. That is the more important lesson. Today's sky is not cloudless, but beautiful in its way, no?

At Bedok South Blk 16 food center today, enjoyed a delicious fish ball mee lunch with my fellow volunteers. And had some great conversations with stall-holders and residents too. One of our volunteers met up with us over lunch and told us about his new project. He and a few other volunteers have just started a ground-up, volunteer-driven initiative to distribute N95 masks to foreign workers. It's inspiring to see such passion and action to help an under-served group in Singapore cope with the current haze. Here is a photo of some workers who have received masks and are trying them on. If you'd like to help this initiative, do let me know.

Attended the swearing-in ceremony for the Prime Minister and Cabinet tonight at the Istana. The ceremony was attended by current and former MPs, senior civil servants, judges, foreign diplomats, People's Association grassroots leaders and many others. I sat with fellow Workers' Party NCMP Dennis Tan. We were seated next to retired MPs and, on the same row, the People's Action Party candidates who stood in Aljunied GRC. The ceremony was followed by a massive buffet dinner. I was accompanied by my mother. You can see her in the photograph here, flanked by two political leaders who need no introduction. I enjoyed meeting many of the newly elected MPs and look forward to more interactions with them in Parliament.

[h=2]The Workers' Party Volunteer Network[/h]Cause

Dear friends of the Workers' Party,

Volunteers have long been the lifeblood, heart and spirit of the Workers' Party. Many members who officially joined WP started out as volunteers first. We continue to serve and work as volunteers, gaining nothing materially but benefiting in much more fulfilling, intrinsic ways, knowing that we have done something for our beloved country and our fellow Singaporeans.

There have been many of you who have come forward before, during and after GE2015 to volunteer with us. You have been our strength and inspiration, and will continue to drive WP forward as we continue to champion parliamentary democracy in the service of Singaporeans. WP Youth Wing will focus our efforts to help WP volunteers explore, experience and embrace democratic politics, to enhance your volunteer experience with WP.

This page is for you -- current, prospective and aspiring volunteers of WP. We will use this page to communicate training and co-learning events with you, to share with you news and inspiring stories. We will also use this page as an open platform to exchange information, ideas and tools with regards to volunteerism and grassroots outreach.

I am writing this in the afterglow of WP Youth Wing's SG100 Conference (wefie taken by Bernard), where scores of new youth volunteers discussed our aspirations and brainstormed on how we can go about realising them. We had a great afternoon of sharing. A volunteer mentioned a phrase which I thought was really apt, "citizen co-creation". It is time to start doing just that.

Daniel Goh

In the afternoon, we held our SG100 conference, which was deferred due to the calling of the General Election. Around 70 participants comprising Youth Wing members, existing volunteers, and potential volunteers attended the session. Led by existing Youth Wing members and volunteers facilitating the discussions, participants spent the afternoon brainstorming, discussing and presenting their views on two main questions:

- What are the aspirations of Singapore youth for SG100
- How can Singaporean youth contribute towards SG100

Through the sessions, participants collectively came up with a vision for Singapore in 2065, along with what they and young Singaporeans could do to bring this about.

The Youth Wing hopes to see more participants and ideas forthcoming, and we look forward to working alongside fellow Singaporeans in building a Singapore we can all be proud of come SG100.

The Workers' Party held a 'Thank you' reception for the heroes and heroines of GE2015 yesterday.
WP SG, Mr Low, spoke about the Workers' Party spirit in mandarin.
'大家要记得,我们可以失望但是不能绝望因为还有许多工人党的自持者在等着我们从新出发,更上一层楼'
Once again, thank you so much for the many encouragement, cards, motivation and support we've received.

The Workers' Party had a Thank You High Tea yesterday for our GE volunteers.

It was great to see many volunteers and members from not just our GRC/SMC teams but also our volunteers and members in other areas of our GE campaign such as rally logistics, media productions, souvenirs, policy, legal, etc, the many people who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that our GE operations went smoothly.

It was good to catch up again with our Team Fengshan volunteers as well as our Team East Coast volunteers, some of whom I had worked alongside with previously when we were part of the East Coast team.

Big thank you to all of you who gave up so much of your own time for the campaign and also to your understanding spouses, families and colleagues.

Let us all continue to 'hammer on' to serve the country we love!

Great to meet and discuss Singapore's future in 50 years with such a great bunch of young Singaporeans today. As we said, each one of us in the room may have differing views about many things, but the one thread we had in common that binds us together was we love Singapore, that we want to play our part in building a better future for ourselves, our loved ones, and our future generations.

Kicked off the weekend with Friday night at the newly refurbished AWARE Singapore office, before moving into Conference Saturday together with fellow The Workers' Party Youth Wing (WPYW) members and volunteers (but not before having a coffee fix near the venue!). Then a yummy dinner with the good folks of the Hougang Community Legal Clinic (with Mr Png doing the honours of kicking off dessert by taking a hammer to the chocolate).

Sunday saw all of us involved in the campaign reuniting for the GE thank you high tea, and it was lovely to see so many familiar faces gathered together. Do like The Workers' Party Volunteer Network page and message us directly or email us at [email protected] if you are interested to sign up or find out more.
