Hello everyone, thank you for your amazing support thus far. Thanks for encouraging me to stand strong. Someone wrote a poison pen letter to WP and to the media to smear me with the allegation that I had an affair with a former student of mine whom I supervised for her thesis. And the media is going to run the story online and in print. The timing is sensational.

I categorically refute the baseless allegations and I question the timing of the poison pen letter coming immediately after the candidate introduction. I have been in the public eye, involved with WP, for over two years, and if the intention is to alert the party to alleged moral failings, it would have been done earlier and directly to the party leaders. I have always maintained a professional relationship with my students. This is very hurtful and unfair to my family.

Serah Rachel Hi Daniel, the guy that tried to smear you and came out with the fake affair story is Geforce3 from fuckwarezone forums. His name is Han Ming Guang, working at NUS. Hello everyone, there seems to be an allegation against Han Ming Guang in the fuckwarezone forums for being the poison pen author. Ming Guang apologised to me for being impulsive in sharing the Zaobao news in the forums and said he is not the author. I believe him. Please don't respond to smearing with smearing because this is not healthy for our country. Lets focus on the issues at hand.

Daniel Goh 吴佩松

Hello everyone, again, I just lodged a police report on the poison pen letter at Serangoon NPC, a short walk down from where I live. It felt so unreal walking down the familiar sidewalk, perhaps it was the slight haze from the burning of paper money.

I said during my speech at the Punggol East By-election rally that life is too short and special to be kiasu, kiasi and kiagui. People have asked me what gui (ghosts) might mean? Perhaps the government? No, not at all, there is no reason to fear the government which serves and protects us. I just thought gui was appropriate because we do not know what ghosts there are, kindly or evil, and we shouldn't be afraid nevertheless.

Thank you all again for the amazing support. I am not a singular person anymore, never was, but now I stand on your giant shoulders; you all give me spiritual strength. Let's move on to the issues at hand.

Daniel Goh 吴佩松

Hello everyone, again and I hope this will be the last on this matter. I understand there is a lot of attack on our mainstream media for reporting on the poison pen letter.

First, I should clarify that It was Lianhe Zaobao that broke the news, and not the Straits Times or others. In my communication with the Zaobao journalist last night, I was given till a certain time to refute the poison pen letter or the story will have to go to print. The story went online some time before the time given to me. This forced my hand to respond to the baseless allegations and rumours. Once I made the public statement to refute the allegations, the other media outlets reported the statement, and thus the rumours. The ST journalist did tell me that ST would not publish rumours unless I was making a public statement.

I met the Zaobao journalists today for a scheduled interview, which was a wonderful conversation actually. The interview will be published tomorrow. The journalists were personally apologetic about last night and I give them the benefit of the doubt that there was no malice involved. I do not intend to cancel my subscription to both papers. I hope that our underdeveloped media institutions will grow in professionalism and ethical standards, and I engage them with this expectation and hope. They are part of the equation to empower your future.

But our media institutions will not develop if we keep slamming them over this. A colleague notified me that a reporter called him up to ask about the rumours. Apparently the public flaming for reporting rumours is causing some to desperately try to verify the rumours. This crosses another professional and ethical line. Our media system is broken, but I trust we have good journalists in it from my interactions so far. We should debate and discuss how to fix it. Flaming the media and the journalists will not help. Let's move on to rationally debate the issues, including our media system, let's keep calm and hammer on.
