Wall of Text , zero relevance. Issue is not even size of real estate.
Issue is conflict of Interest, a high rank minister submit rental request to government organisation. Guess who will be awarded.
Nobody will question ministar if they buy the own estate to live with their own money.
The insignificant nobody simpleton me but a fellow citizen am glad that we had got the issue of envy politics over land size out of the way. For sure no leader in this world will live in a tent to administer or govern a country. Would PrezXi give up his palace in Zhong Nan Hai, as well as his other cabinet ministers? Would UK PM give up 10 Downing Street & live in a tent?
So now some wish to focus on the issue of 'Conflict of Interest'. What exactly is 'Conflict of Interest' that had broadly been bandied around here?
'Conflict of Interest' simply means someone in power who abuses his privileges & power for his own self interest instead of pursing the interests of those whom put him in power.
Let's use an analogy:- A minister who uses his free time to go to the gym, workout & lives healthily to be an example for others to follow can be considered as a 'Conflict of Interest' as he put his own self interest first when he should do more walk-about in his free time to connect with constituents. See how PETTY it can be when 'Conflict of Interest' is BROADLY bandied about?
In this issue over the 2 properties, had there been a 'Conflict of Interest'?
First, we have to recognize the fact that in Singapore, somebody will have to be in charge of something for accountability & responsibility. In his course of duty, he will come across opportunities to further the ambitions of those whom elected him into power - to impress foreign leaders & biz execs, to build trust & confidence, etc, in this case- the 2 empty vacant properties. Should he reject the opportunity, it will only be false humility, to meet others PETTY expectations of humility unnecessarily when he had been tasked to perform his duties diligently.
Furthermore, in land scarce Singapore, they both opted to rent instead of purchasing such properties, thus freeing up the land when they step down from their appointments for other appointment holders to use to further our country's ambitions & in the meantime, allow SLA to consolidate land use research with other Stat Boards for a final decision or amendments over such vacant properties & land.
So what is the issue of 'Conflict of Interest' here? To qoute Albert Einstein — '
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.'
If the opposition parties truly wish to serve the People, there are many more relevant issues to its constituents that needs to be addressed & solutions found. Why be stuck over this PETTY issue? What is the point & what do they hope to achieve?
