With Orchard Road covered in knee-deep water yesterday,
this man took the opportunity to have a swim
right in front of Takashimaya Shopping Centre.
Record rainfall caused flooding along many parts of
central Singapore in the late morning yesterday (June 16).
The rain disrupted businesses and stalled vehicles in the town area.
In the video, the man appears to have gone swimming
at the traffic junction in front of Takashimaya Shopping Centre.

STOMP is contacting the contributor for more information.

Perhaps 8888 is like the telephone owner who gets killed .

If LKY were the Pope, what you have said will be deemed blasphemy and will be called to recant, failing which you will be burnt at the stake.

Ironically, Orchard Road is under Cairnhill division of Tanjong Pagar GRC, supposedly best maintained. More ironically for those old enough to remember, Potong Pasir when under PAP was most famous for flash floods. It seem to have never happened again under Chiam See Tong.

Traffic Chaos

A TREE felled by the rainstorm caused a massive tailback and a partial closure of the Central Expressway (CTE) yesterday morning. The tree fell onto the expressway just after the Kampong Java Tunnel, near Cavenagh Road, at around 11am and blocked all three lanes of the stretch of road.

Stuck in Novena flood, but car didn't break down

STOMPer GKW12345 is relieved that his car
did not break down as he recalled this flood at Novena.
This happened on the same day as the
flooding event in Orchard road.
“This happened on Wednesday at around 10.30am.
"I was on my way to United Square when I saw
that there was this huge flood on the road.
"The flood is up to the wheel of the car.
"There are 3 lanes and on the right lane, the flood
came up to about 1 to 1 and a half feet.
"Many cars had to u-turn to avoid the flood.
At the right side of the road, a car stalled.
"There were people knee deep in water
wearing raincoats everywhere.
"Thank goodness my car didn't break down."

STOMPer's theory of how flood happened: New pictures and videos
Posted on 17 Jun 2010

STOMPer Christine thinks that overwhelmed storm canals
may be a reason for the floods at Orchard Road and
other areas yesterday (Jun 16). Other STOMPers who
were at the flood scenes have sent in more pictures and videos.
"One of the contributing reason for the flood at Orchard Road, Bukit Timah, Dunearn, Rochor etc is because all the various canals around Singapore which flows to the Kallang River or the sea are stretched to maximum capacity.
"This leads to some canals overflowing and flooding low-lying areas."
The flood on Orchard Road yesterday morning (Jun 17) took shoppers, workers and the authorities by surprise.
More than 100mm of rain fell in two hours. This is about 60 per cent of the entire month's rainfall, which averages 162mm.
The flood waters damaged four stores at Liat Towers: designer boutiques Hermes and Massimo Dutti, newly-opened Wendy's fast food joint, and Starbucks cafe.
The deluge was caused by winds converging over Singapore, bringing heavy rain clouds and unstable weather conditions, said the National Environment Agency.

STOMPer Sylvester saw school children slipping and
falling into drains because of the heavy flood at
Bukit Timah today (Nov 19). He says:
"This is the flood at King's, Prince and
Coronation Road at Bukit Timah.

"The flood was heaviest during after school hours
where many students had to navigate their way
through murky water. "The murky water caused
some students to fall into the drains.
"Also, many parents in their vehicles braced the
flood waiting for their kids and many of these
vehicles stalled because of the flood.
"This flooding occurs in this area during
the year end rainy season."
