Mine better, they lost my medical docket, till this day...it is still missing!! this was before full computerization...I have been called back to camp for 7 days make up training, to discover that HQ has no record & there were 8 of us, we have no QM orders, no food provided & no lodging. Never mind...I guess it had not changed much, too many tales to tell...

Don't know now...during my time, if you mention the word "fast", people will rolling on the ground laughing & in tears..never mind about efficiency.

All armies of the world act the same way...few people enjoy being in the army, of course, there are exceptions.

The only difference between the ability to act fast or revert to the usual 'slow' style depends on:

a Whether it is the usual army unit or some special unit (commando, special forces, navy seal, SAS, etc) or

b What and which army regulations you are being administered under. Under Stalin, Hitler or Mao, any laggard in action will not only result in the death sentence of the soldier but also affect his family members and relatives. Even if an Officer performs well, it is no guarantee that he will be rewarded, but instead may invite jealousies of others and resulting in demotions, imprisonment and of course, death.

If TS is interested, go read 'One Day In The Life Of Ivan Denisovich', and books depicting the Long March or Cultural Revolution and you will have a taste of it.

Well,the system is proven damn good for the white horses.One white horse even got exempted for 12 years to do his overseas studies and when he came back he was posted to a non-combat vocation of lab technician.True story.Serious.No joke.

You are so biased, how can you be so blind? Did you know MINDEF has been taking good care of NSF by raising their allowance 20% over the past 30 years? I was so touched by their gesture when my nephew told me about it during his pre-enlistment.

In the military, NSFs are treated well to catered food, sleep in spacious, airy bunks, and undergo the most professional training possible using state of the art equipment. What more can they ask? These are the most looked after servicemen on the planet.

One NSF can gun down 100 Malaysians in the battle field because of his professionalism, dedication, and superior training regiment who emphasis a holistic development of mind, body and fitness, and shooting accuracy.

How dare you denigrade National Service! You are a woman, for goodness sake!

The PAP, Minister of Defence, SAF and Mindef must be brought to task for the abuse of NSFs.

SG guys do NS to protect SG and Singaporeans. But NSFs and NSmen have been abused by PAP and the SAF. Some abuses are:

1. NS for Singaporeans, jobs for foreigners

2. NSmen are discriminated against by employers because they have to do their ICTs

3. NSFs and NSmen are used as free labour to help PAP-connected guys profit from their businesses. Ong Beng Seng was able to get the Minister of Defence and the SAF to send in NSFs to do car park duties, logistics duty, security duties during F1 races. F1 is a commercial business and the pap and SAF shd never allow NSFs to be abused as free labour to help OBS make money. OBS shd employ commercial security guards, commercial logistics people etc during F1 and not get free labour from the SAF. SG sons do NS to protect SG and Singaporeans, not free labour to pap connected businessmen. How could the Minister of Defence and the SAF accede to OBS' request? It's an abuse of NSFs. It demeans NS.

4. The pap has allowed NS to degenerate to the extent that SG guys are discriminated against in SG and NSFs and NSmen are abused by the pap and SAF.

All Singaporeans have a son, husband, father or relative who is an NSF or NSmen. Everyone of us must speak up against the pap and the SAF for this abuse of NS and NSFs.

I hope that Gilbert considers the next protest topic to be "Stop Abuse of NSFs/NSmen". If Gilbert wants, I am willing to speak at the rally.

I am very impressed that MINDEF has factored in an inflation of 0.6% a year in the allowance of the NSF for the past 30 years.

but what's most important is for the pap and SAF to be clear abt the role of NS, NSmen and NSFs and not to abuse them as free labour.
