The whole truth (of course, only according to me) is that it can be fun if you have the right attitude and the right physique. NS will not be a problem.
The problem will arise when:
a You don't like to be shouted at and ordered around day in and day out;
b In the first three months, you got to unlearn what you learnt in the last 18 years and have your personality squashed and remoulded into an obedient zombie;
c You are not able to do the chin ups, run shuttle in less than 10 seconds, jump more than 2 meters from a standing position and for most importantly, if you cannot carry your own body for a distance of 2.4 km in 13 (??? sorry, forgot what) minutes;
d you object to being woken up at 5am and wait for the next two hours for the 3 tonner to bring you to range, because the OC said he wanted to hear the first shots out at 7.30 am.
e you are not able to clear the low wall or run up and down the Jacob's ladder because you are afraid of heights,
etc, etc.
...
Thanks for the comprehensive write-up.
Yes, it sounds fun and frustration all rolled into one. No wonder most guys abhor NS esp if the pap doesnt play their part of the bargain
