It's just that some 40 percent of S'poreans think that anything run by the PAP government must be tiptop and 100 per cent flawless. It's ok if the other political parties make mistakes, or is flawed - nevermind if some of their members tell lies or commit some wrongdoings!
“No good leader will leave the field when the battle is on. I will rightly stay to set things right.” - Saw Phaik Hwa, SMRT CEO (CNA 28 Dec 2011)

There is also competition between the rail & bus services. When one service goes down you have the other to rely on. I was in KL when there was a rail disruption. I simply switched to a bus. It was of course more crowded but I got to my destination on time.

SINGAPORE: SMRT CEO Saw Phaik Hwa, 57, has resigned, according to an SMRT filing with the Singapore Exchange (SGX).
Her resignation comes less than a month after two major breakdowns in SMRT-operated train services.
Ms Saw stepped down as president and CEO of SMRT with immediate effect "to pursue personal interests", according to the filing.
SMRT has appointed 63-year-old Tan Ek Kia, a board director, as interim CEO.
