Dear Singaporeans, this is why you pay top dollar for your leadership.
The US would be only too happy if Singapore projected its power into the Pacific. It would help the USA increase its presence and influence to counter the increasing Chinese influence here.
I don't understand how you get the notion that no one will want to attack a peaceful and defenceless nation. This is very naive.
Sinkapore is indefensible. The money spent on SAF is wasteful spending. Paying the US for protection would be cheaper and spare tens of thousand men from hardship.
So who do you think will to attack Spore & why
The Americans are a bunch of useful idiots by re-electing Obama. China is the only safe haven left against the beast.
Why do you lock your doors and windows of your house and keep your valuables safe? Why do we need to have a police force? This is the most ridiculous question anyone can ask me, why any country wish to attack a Singapore that has no defence whatsoever. Are you serious? So who do you think will to attack Spore & why

Not so easy, bro. US naval power is key to our defence yes, but their foreign policy toward the region is inherently volatile. We need a strong deterrent to assure others that we can maintain the peace. The problem with the PAP govt is overspending on non-critical areas and other wasteful use of resources.
....
Still don't get it? No one wants to attack. All they need to show a little muscle. If our military is weak, their show of muscle will cause people to lose confidence. Once sentiment toward SG security has soured, our economy will go downhill.
It is a very valid question because the PAP is spending billions & billions, more than any of our poor 3rd world neighbours.
If you say that they are they are a threat just because Spore is undefended, you are not considering the realities in this region. Spore has many treaties e.g. ASEAN, SEATO, ....
Spore is a buffer between Malaysia & Indonesia. If any of these countries were to invade Spore, what do you think the other country will do
Another valid question is why would anyone want to bother invading Spore There's no oil, no hinterland, no water, zip, nada. It's just an overcrowded island with millions of foreigners from places like Indonesia & Malaysia. Since they are already in Spore, why would they want to invade Spore
The majority in Spore is chinese whereas our neighbours are muslim. Do you really think they want to absorb more troublesome chinese into their population
No one is asking that we strip Spore of all it's defences. It's just that too much is being spent & plenty of $$ is being spent to spy on & harass it's citizens.
I don't see why we need a mercenary force in Spore just to protect certain people
What treaty? Defence? If we need military aid they will come? If they need military aid, can we say sorry, we don't have anything to offer?
What do you think they will do? I don't know, do you?
Since they are already in Singapore? Maids from Indonesia working in Singapore means they have overtaken the country and now control the nation, so it is not necessary for Indonesia to invade and take control? I cannot understand your logic.
By your reasoning, countries invade another only because of resources? Why did Argentina invade the Falklands? Why would China and Japan quarrel over a small piece of land?
You mean they will not kill the citizens? So how do you explain the countless invasions of foreign countries in the past where the citizens are of different culture and nationalities? Why would Russia invade Afghanistan or Argentina the Falklands?
I remember LKY saying that Spore cannot survive on it's own. Maybe it's time for Spore to re-join Malaysia
this calls for a propaganda song from Clement Chow as me recalled it: there was a tum... when peepur seh dat Sinkapoor woon mekit... bud we did...
The Gurkha is there to protect the elites from usurpers from within their ranks and from their own people who may want to rise against them.
