Wrapped up my visit to Bali, where I spent the last few days conferring with my counterparts on ways to build more bridges and navigate the rapids of global uncertainty.
Kudos to Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati and Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo for hosting a successful 3rd G20 Indonesia Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting. Terima kasih banyak for your warm hospitality.
Singapore and Indonesia share strong and substantive cooperation in many domains, underpinned by close people-to-people ties. We will continue to work closely with Indonesia to realise its G20 Presidency vision, for the world to #RecoverTogetherRecoverStronger.

Lawrence has important meetings to attend.

All countries, including Singapore, are being hit by big shocks - Covid-19; the Ukraine war and its impact on the economy and prices, especially for energy and food; as well as rising geopolitical tensions and the erosion of the rules-based multilateral system that has served us well for so many decades.
For Singapore, having a seat at a forum like the #G20 is important. It allows us to have our voice heard when the world's largest economies discuss global matters. It helps us build stronger ties with our counterparts, so we understand each other better. And with a strongly coordinated global response, we can work towards solving the most pressing issues of our time.
When I attend these fora, I always keep in mind why I am here, and why I update everyone on what I do - on social media and more. It must always be for Singaporeans. As a small and open nation, we feel the impact of major global moves deeply. So it is important that we have a voice. And it is important that we keep faith with our people, and work to advance Singapore's interests on an international level.
The journey ahead in the global environment will be bumpy. There will be more shocks and stormy weather. But I know that by keeping the faith, and having trust in each other, we can sail through together - a stronger Singapore.

Lawrence announces distribution of ART kits.

Lawrence Wong

2 hrs ·
As announced last month, we will be distributing another 10 ART kits to every household starting from today, to support self-testing.
Over 1.5 million households will be receiving the ART kits through mailbox in the coming weeks, so do keep a look out for it. You can also check the delivery status of your ART kits on the Singapore Post mobile app.
Do use the kits to test yourself before participating in high-risk activities or visiting vulnerable groups. In my case, I usually test myself before attending a large group event or going for house visits (where I meet many people). Let’s all do our part to exercise social responsibility and keep one another safe through this latest wave.

Lawrence glad to engage with students.

Glad to engage with our students studying abroad on issues ranging from #ForwardSG to the global economy, social compact and more.
We must work towards a social compact that is viewed as fair by all segments of society, and also do more to ensure that the fruits of growth are broadly shared by all, and no one feels left behind.
All our young Singaporeans play a big part in shaping the direction of our future, so we can build a stronger nation for generations to come!

Glad to meet Sultan of Johor, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, and Permaisuri of Johor, Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, at tea hosted by President Halimah Yacob today. My warmest congratulations to Sultan Ibrahim on receiving an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws from NUS. It is a testament to Sultan Ibrahim’s contributions to Johor and Singapore-Johor relations.
Also delighted to have met HRH Crown Prince of Johor and Her Highness Che’ Puan Besar.
Singapore and Johor are close friends. I fondly remember Sultan Ibrahim’s warm hospitality when we visited Johor to attend his Hari Raya Open House in 2018.
I wish Sultan Ibrahim a pleasant stay in Singapore, and I look forward to even stronger Singapore-Johor ties!

Lawrence finds racial harmony very precious.

Lawrence Wong

2 hrs ·
One of the things that is very precious to me is our racial harmony.
Growing up, I had friends in the neighbourhood and school from diverse backgrounds. We didn’t care about ethnicity or race. What mattered were the times we laughed and played together, and helped each other up when we fell. Some of us still keep in touch with each other till today.
I'm glad that in our HDB estates, kindergartens and schools, kids of different races continue to grow up together. They share many bonding experiences, and develop a stronger common identity. Let's keep moving towards an even more inclusive society.
Happy Racial Harmony Day!

Lawrence is pleased to meet Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin.

Had the honour of meeting Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin today.
As small open economies, Singapore and Ireland share common strategic perspectives, especially the importance of upholding a rules-based multilateral system. This is more important today amid a more uncertain and volatile world.
We had a good conversation on topics of mutual interest, including managing the challenges of climate change, rising energy and food prices, and discussed our experience with tackling the COVID-19 pandemic.
We also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation, especially on the economic front, including in the areas of sustainable development and low-carbon solutions.
I look forward to working closely with my Irish counterparts to take bilateral ties to new heights!

Lawrence is glad that NYUC has risen to its challenges.

Singapore is at the crossroads - we are emerging from the pandemic, and also navigating uncertainties across the world.
That's why it is so urgent for us to come together and refresh our social compact, and chart the new way forward for Singapore.
A strong Labour Movement is a key pillar of our social compact. So we must continue to revitalise this Movement in tandem with the times.
I'm glad that the NTUC has risen to these challenges. It is broadening its reach to workers of different profiles - such as with its youth taskforce launched today. And it continues to grow its pipeline of future leaders, to keep a finger on the pulse of young Singaporeans.
I'm confident that working together, we can all look forward to the future with confidence and hope - towards a stronger Singapore.
