Very shocked and saddened at the passing of the former PM of Japan Mr Shinzo Abe. I was the Minister-in-Attendance when Mr Abe visited Singapore in 2013. He had just started on his second term as PM, and I still remember his resolve and strength when he shared his plans to revive the Japanese economy.
My deepest condolences to his family, and to the government and people of Japan on this tragic loss

Selamat Hari Raya Haji!
Glad to join Murali Pillai at Masjid Ar-Raudhah this morning to meet with the mosque leaders and congregants.
This Hari Raya Haji, we are reminded of the importance of sacrifice and caring for the less fortunate in our midst. I want to commend the Muslim community for looking after one another and exemplifying the spirit of gotong royong. Whatever the challenges ahead, I know we will overcome them together, in solidarity and unity.
Selamat Hari Raya Haji kepada semua masyarakat Islam Singapura. Semoga Hari Raya disambut dengan kegembiraan bersama keluarga.

Lawrence presents awards.

Presenting the awards at the Ministry of Finance (Singapore) Board Appreciation last week was extra special because it was the first time in two years that we were able to meet again as part of the MOF Family.
I would like to take this chance to thank everyone for your service and commitment - from advising on accountancy and corporate governance, to infrastructure and ICT projects, grant and appeals assessments, and more.
Your commitment and dedication towards your work is admirable. Thank you for playing your part to chart our course for the future!

Lawrence glad to see a vibrant F&B scene.

Glad to see our F&B scene being a lot more vibrant after the past two years of the pandemic. Caught up with some of our Malay-Muslim entrepreneurs from the F&B space to hear their stories, together with Zaqy Mohamad.
Each of them had very different life experiences - some of them off the beaten track, and one going overseas before coming back to Singapore to set up shop here.
It takes courage to explore our passions and interests. It takes time to build up something we are proud of. And it takes grit to keep going even when we face obstacles and challenges.
So I was glad to have this chat with them, and hear about their common aspirations for the Malay-Muslim community and Singapore - to learn new skills no matter our age, and to always keep our spirits up.
More sessions with groups from our various communities to come!
☺️

For more than a decade, the North West CDC and the North West Student Support Fund have been helping students from less-privileged backgrounds and giving them more opportunities to realise their full potential. These efforts have benefited more than 1,000 students in our Marsiling-YewTee GRC in the last few years.
Many thanks to the NW Student Support Fund! If you'd also like to contribute, please go to go.gov.sg/give-nwssf

Our GST Voucher scheme has provided continuing help for lower- to middle-income Singaporeans. As part of the enhanced GST Voucher scheme announced at Budget 2022 as well as the $1.5 million package announced in June, 1.5 million Singaporeans will receive $1.2 billion in GST Voucher (GSTV) benefits in August 2022. Each eligible Singaporean will receive up to $700 in cash and up to $450 in MediSave top-ups.
I hope this additional support will be useful to help Singaporeans cope with higher inflation. To find out your eligibility for the payouts, you can visit gstvoucher.gov.sg or watch the video below.

Arrived in Indonesia for the 3rd Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting.
Looking forward to strengthening ties with my foreign counterparts on topics that impact all of us - the global economy, sustainable finance, and infrastructure.

Full day today at the G20 Indonesia!
Kicked off the day with a good meeting with Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, where we discussed opportunities for the economy and finance, and also ways to strengthen multilateral institutions, to better address issues like climate change and pandemic response.
Spoke too at the G20 Ministerial Symposium on Tax and Development, on how tax policies continue to help us promote a competitive economy, an inclusive society and a transition to a more sustainable future. And we continue to work to ensure our tax and spending system remains fair and progressive.
Ended the day by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Asian Development Bank President Masatsugu Asakawa. The Asian Development Bank has been our steadfast development partner for the region, and we will continue to promote more investment and innovation here.
Looking forward to tomorrow where I will get together with my finance counterparts to discuss the global economy, healthcare and more!

Lawrence glad to have good discussions.

We are facing an uncertain and unpredictable world. Organisations like the #G20 continue to play a leadership role, and multilateral institutions like the International Monetary Fund and World Bank are key.
This is also why our friendships and ties around the world continue to be important. Glad to have good discussions with many of my foreign counterparts, including #US Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen, #RepublicofKorea Deputy Prime Minister Choo Kyung-ho, #SouthAfrica Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana, and more today. And it is always good to catch up with #Indonesia Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati!
