Lawrence had a fruitful day in Tokyo.

Yesterday, I had a fruitful day in Tokyo!
Attended a heartwarming gathering with Singaporeans living in Japan, where I heard many interesting stories about their experiences overseas. It's always great to catch up with our citizens and bond over our shared heritage.
Also visited the Chiyoda Corporation Koyasu Office & Research Park today. Chiyoda is amongst the companies working to develop a hydrogen supply chain network in Singapore. Singapore & Japan face a major challenge in climate change, and there is more we can do on that front.
Had a catch-up with Nikkei Chairman & Group CEO Okada Naotoshi and President & CEO Hasebe Tsuyoshi, with good discussions on international developments and the evolving media landscape.
Looking forward to another full day ahead.

Lawrence honoured to call on Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio 岸田文雄. :notworthy:

Honoured to call on Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio 岸田文雄. We reaffirmed the excellent state of bilateral relations, and discussed how to further build on the relationship. Singapore and Japan are natural partners on many issues, and I look forward to deepening our cooperation in areas of mutual interest such as digitalisation and the green economy.
During our meeting, we also reaffirmed the importance of maintaining an open, inclusive and rules-based regional architecture.
I welcome Japan's efforts to deepen its ties with ASEAN, and I look forward to the upgrade of our relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership - as we mark the 50th year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation!

It was great catching up with Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa to discuss regional and global developments. I also had the pleasure of meeting the Chair of the Japan-Singapore Parliamentary Friendship League (JSPFL) and Digital Minister Kono Taro, as well as several members of the JSPFL over dinner.
Throughout the day, I also met with Nomura Holdings Inc, along with leaders of some of Japan’s top financial institutions.
I look forward to continuing to work with Japan to strengthen and deepen our partnership in the future. Arigato Gozaimasu Japan for your warm hospitality, and see you again!

President Halimah Yacob has announced her decision to not run for a second term in the upcoming Presidential Election. Throughout her tenure as Singapore's Head of State, she has served with unwavering commitment, compassion and grace.
President Halimah championed a society rooted in empathy and kindness, and always paid special attention to the more disadvantaged and vulnerable groups.
I have worked with her most closely in her role as custodian of our reserves. As President, she ensures that Singapore's reserves are used judiciously. Every year, MOF seeks the President's assent for the national Budget. I have had many discussions with her and the Council of Presidential Advisers (CPA) on the reserves, and we have greatly benefited from the exchange of views.
During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, her assent to draw down on the past reserves was crucial in protecting lives and livelihoods, and helping us to emerge stronger.
President Halimah Yacob, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for your steadfast and devoted service to Singapore and Singaporeans!

Lawrence was deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Dr Tan Eng Liang. :frown:

Lawrence Wong

23 h ·
Deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Dr Tan Eng Liang, one of our pioneers in sports and also a former MP and Senior Minister of State.
I got to know Dr Tan when I was in Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth - MCCY. He provided many useful inputs, as we developed our high-performance sports system, and as we prepared for the 2015 SEA Games.
Dr Tan himself was a former national water polo player. He had represented Singapore during the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games, and was a veteran sports official. He had served as the former vice-president of the Singapore National Olympic Council for over three decades, as well as the chairman of the Singapore Sports Council.
Dr Tan helped to put in place the foundation for our sports infrastructure, including the development of neighbourhood sports complexes, and construction of the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
He has led a full life, and contributed significantly to our sports community and to Singapore. My deepest condolences to his family in this time of grief. He will be dearly missed by all.

Happy to launch the Lee Kuan Yew Centennial Fund, a ground-up initiative to support the development of our youth, and the Singapore Young Leaders Programme (SYLP), a programme supported by the Centennial Fund.
The new SYLP brings together about 1,000 student leaders from across our ITE, polytechnics and autonomous universities, and I would like to extend a big welcome to all of you.
With the SYLP, we hope to empower and provide you with leadership opportunities to make a difference to our future generations, and write the next chapter of our Singapore story.

Lawrence met with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on his first official visit to Singapore for the 8th Annual Leaders’ Meeting.

Lawrence Wong

Met with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on his first official visit to Singapore for the 8th Annual Leaders’ Meeting, on behalf of PM Lee Hsien Loong, who unfortunately had a case of Covid rebound. I last met PM Albanese in 2017, during his visit to Singapore for the Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship.
During the meeting, we reaffirmed our commitment to further expand bilateral cooperation under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP), especially in the areas of the green economy and supply chains. This includes new funds for SMEs to provide more collaborative opportunities in the green industry between our countries. We have made swift progress since we signed the landmark Singapore-Australia Green Economy Agreement last year.
Australia has been a longstanding friend and trusted partner to Singapore. I look forward to bringing our bilateral relations to greater heights!

#didyouknow that the Singapore Police Force celebrates Police Day on 3 June every year, since 1971. This special date signifies when Singapore attained self-governance on 3 June 1959.
I am happy to officiate this year’s #PoliceDay2023. Together with more than 1,600 men and women in blue, we honored the invaluable contributions and celebrated their achievements by all police officers, past and present.
My deepest appreciation to all our policemen, policewomen, and SPF officers for keeping our home safe and secure — thank you for your unwavering courage, dedication and professionalism

Lawrence wants to write his own Singapore Story.:confused::biggrin:

Lawrence Wong

11 h ·
What is the “good life” we aspire towards? What does the Singapore Story mean to all of us?
I’m sure there will be a range of views on these questions. But through the #ForwardSG conversations, we are picking up some common threads.
We need a more inclusive definition of success — to embrace diverse pathways of excellence, all deserving of equal respect in our society.
Success is less about means and more about meaning — finding purpose and fulfilment in all that we do.
Success is not about grades and academic qualifications; it’s about a journey of lifelong learning, which the government will support fully through SkillsFuture.
Success is not just about the individual; it’s about the collective. Every success story is a shared story. So we must give back to the community, support our fellow citizens, and strengthen our sense of solidarity as a people.
We can all do our part to equip and empower every citizen to write their own Singapore Story!

Back at the OCS SAFTI parade square last evening and it brought back fond memories.
I had my own commissioning parade here nearly 30 years ago, and it was good to witness the commissioning parade for the 129/22 batch of officer cadets.
Congratulations to all newly minted officers! This is the start of your leadership path. Lead by example and with conviction; inspire your soldiers with your words and actions; imbue in them a strong sense of purpose and commitment. Show them that our nation, our people, and our way of life are worth defending and fighting for.
Congratulations and all the best on your journey!

Lawrence is giving seniors more help.

Lawrence Wong

9 h ·
More help is on the way for our seniors. This month, eligible seniors will receive up to $700 to help with their cost of living expenses. Come July, eligible Pioneers receive up to $1,100 and Merdeka Generation seniors will receive $200 in their MediSave top-ups.
Our seniors have contributed significantly to building today’s Singapore. So it’s our turn now to take care of them.
I know many families are also concerned about rising prices. We will continue to provide other forms of assistance to those in need. In the second half of the year, there will be cash payouts, U-Save, S&CC rebates, and CDA top-ups for eligible families and Singaporeans. You can find out more at Ministry of Finance (Singapore).
