Go Team Singapore!
The 32nd SEA Games kicked off in Cambodia — this year, Team Singapore athletes will be competing across 30 sports! We even have some athletes who are Marsiling-Yew Tee residents such as Chong Min Han and Shafinah Mahesh.
Looking forward to catching some of the action on television! You can follow MeWatch and cheer for the team, along with the rest of Singapore

The WHO has just declared that Covid-19 is no longer a global health emergency. It has been three long years, and it appears we have finally put the worst of the pandemic behind us. To be clear, the virus is still with us, and continues to mutate. So it is likely to be a continually circulating respiratory disease, hopefully with mostly mild infections. In this new normal, let’s continue to uphold good personal hygiene practices and stay up to date on vaccinations.

Lawrence has big plans to grow the tech sector.

We have big plans to grow our tech sector, and position Singapore as the location for digital innovation in Asia and the world.
We have launched a refreshed Industry Transformation Map for the Info and Comms sector - focusing on areas like software, IT services, online sectors and telecom services.
As we redouble our efforts to grow our tech ecosystem here, we will also give more support to our local tech companies, equip Singaporeans with the relevant skills, and more.
This is not something the government can do alone. We need companies and organisations to come on board too. That's why I am glad the Singapore Computer Society has been facilitating tech training, and working with companies to adopt skills-based hiring for polytechnic and ITE graduates.
Happy 55th anniversary to the Singapore Computer Society!

Glad to join the residents of Jalan Besar to kick off People's Action Party’s commemoration of the birth centenary of our founding Secretary-General, Mr Lee Kuan Yew. All 15 of our Town Councils will soon be organising tree planting events, with the goal of greening Singapore with 10,000 more trees in our neighbourhoods by the end of year. Through the combined efforts of town councils and residents, we hope to work towards more energy-efficient and greener towns.
May the experience of tree planting today stay for a long time with these little ones! The responsibility of upholding a clean, green and sustainable city for tomorrow will soon lie in their hands — and I trust they will do us proud.

Arrived in Shanghai, China

this afternoon. This is my first visit there since the pandemic.
Singapore and China recently upgraded relations to an All-Round High-Quality Future-Oriented Partnership during PM Lee Hsien Loong’s visit there in March. It shows how both sides are committed to taking our multi-faceted collaboration to the next level, in tandem with the interests and priorities of our peoples, and to meet the challenges not just of today but also of tomorrow.
On this visit, I will be meeting both old and new friends, and look forward to working with them to strengthen our ties. Watch this space for more updates.

Greetings from Shanghai!
Started my day at one of China’s largest fintech services companies, Ant Group (Alipay). Happy to learn more about Ant’s latest R&D and innovation capabilities, especially in the sustainability and financial sector.
Headed on to a reception with overseas Singaporeans in #Shanghai. The Singaporean community here is vibrant and the largest in China. Thanks for sharing your experiences with me and flying our Singapore flag high!

Lawrence had very good meetings.

Had very good meetings with Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining this morning, as well as Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng yesterday evening.
Singapore and Shanghai have had an excellent relationship over many decades, including strong economic cooperation, underpinned by close people-to-people ties. As major hubs in the region facing many similar opportunities and challenges, our cities have much to learn from each other in areas such as green and digital economies, urban governance, and environmental protection.
Rounded off my Shanghai journey by visiting NIO, and learnt more about its journey to becoming one of China’s leading electric vehicle companies. NIO is also building an R&D Centre in Singapore, focusing on the development of smart power solutions and autonomous driving technologies.
I hope that the Singapore and Shanghai cooperation can be a catalyst and pathfinder for new and innovative projects between our two countries.
Thank you, Shanghai, for the wonderful hospitality. We are next flying to Beijing!

Happy to be back in Beijing and to meet with Premier Li Qiang and Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang.
During my call on Premier Li, we reaffirmed the “All-Round High-Quality Future-Oriented Partnership” between Singapore and China. Our two countries are well-positioned to seize opportunities to pursue our common interest in sustainable, innovative and inclusive growth. I look forward to further cooperation to benefit our peoples.
I also met Vice Premier Ding, and we had an extensive discussion on the many ways that Singapore and China can continue to grow our relations from strength to strength. I look forward to co-chairing with Vice Premier Ding the 19th Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) in China later this year.

It has been a fruitful trip to China, my first visit since the pandemic. The relationship between Singapore and China has been built on mutual trust developed over years of close collaboration.
Our bilateral relationship was recently upgraded during PM Lee Hsien Loong’s visit in March. On this trip, my team and I have also built on this momentum to strengthen ties and discuss cooperation in key traditional and new areas. Our 4G leaders will continue working closely with China to take our relationship forward and onwards to greater heights.
Before heading home to Singapore, I also met with Minister of the CPC Central Organisation Department (COD), Li Ganjie, and PRC Finance Minister, Liu Kun. I discussed ways to further deepen our human resource development, as well as our financial cooperation, with Minister Li and Minister Liu respectively.
Thank you, China, for the warm welcome and hospitality. I look forward to returning later this year for the JCBC. My thanks as well to the team and delegation who have joined me on this trip.

Lawrence was glad to open the new National Cancer Centre Singapore.

One in four Singaporeans are at risk of developing cancer during their lifetime. So as our population ages, we can unfortunately expect more to be diagnosed with cancer.
We are doing everything we can to prevent cancer and detect it early. But we must also be ready, and prepare more capacity.
Hence I'm glad to open the new National Cancer Centre Singapore, which expands our capacity for chemo treatment and outpatient services by more than two thirds. And it will house state-of-the-art facilities like holistic care for our cancer patients.
Together, let us forge a brighter, healthier future for all, united in our fight against cancer.

Day out at the museum! We sing “Semangat Yang Baru” in our national anthem, but we may not always appreciate the full meaning behind these words. So do check out the latest exhibition at the National Museum of Singapore, which highlights the “new spirit” of our pioneers and founding leaders, as they built modern Singapore. This special exhibition is also meant as a preview of the Founders’ Memorial. So you can contribute your stories and suggestions, and help to shape the Memorial together!
