We just wrapped up the ASEAN Finance Ministers' and Central Bank Governors' Meeting, where we explored new opportunities for Singapore and the ASEAN region, especially in the green and digital economies.
We also discussed the importance of keeping ASEAN open to investments and cross-border trade, and preparing well for future crises and pandemics.
Amidst the uncertainties in the geopolitical situation, we must never lose sight of the need to work doubly hard to seize opportunities for our peoples.
These meetings have given us the opportunity to deepen our linkages within the region, as we work to pivot ASEAN towards a more green and inclusive future.
Thank you, Bali & Sri Mulyani Indrawati, for your warm hospitality

Delighted to join residents for our first Limbang Buka Puasa after a 3-year hiatus.
We also distributed habuan and grocery packets to those in need. It’s part of the assurance we give to all families in our community - that we will support them, not just during this period of Ramadan, but also in every season of life. Many thanks to our sponsors and partners too, especially our friends from the Singapore Statutory Board Employees’ Cooperative.
Blessed Ramadan to all our Muslim friends. Our Limbang

Parliament reconvened today with President Halimah Yacob opening the second session of the 14th Parliament.
President spoke about the new opportunities as well as the challenges ahead of us. She also outlined the Government’s plans and priorities for the remaining term of government.
One of our key priorities is to refresh our social compact through the #ForwardSG exercise. The values we hold dear as Singaporeans — fairness, inclusivity, mutual support and the desire to give back to society will shape Singapore’s refreshed social compact. I gave an interim update on #ForwardSG earlier this year and will speak more about it in Parliament next week.

What does volunteerism mean to you?
When we volunteer, we contribute to something larger than ourselves, and we build a better home together.
Volunteerism is therefore an important part of nation-building. As we refresh our social compact, we must also strengthen the spirit of volunteerism in our society.
I met many volunteers, partners and organisations at the inaugural Singapore Volunteer Management Conference this morning. We chatted about ways to encourage more to volunteer, and to make it convenient and meaningful for them. This way, not only will our beneficiaries benefit, but our volunteers will also feel engaged and grow new skills.
Do your part — take your first step now to be a volunteer. Find out more at the SG Cares Facebook Page or visit www.volunteer.gov.sg

Lawrence wishes all the best to those who are celebrating the Tamil and Indian new year.

From today, various Indian communities will be celebrating their respective New Years, marking a new beginning for happiness and prosperity.
For Tamils, it is celebrated as Puthaandu on the first day of the Tamil month. Likewise, the Sikhs celebrate Vaisakhi. Other Indian communities will also be commemorating their respective New Years around this time.
All this is part of the rich and diverse cultural heritage we enjoy in Singapore. We embrace and celebrate each other’s cultures, even as we strive to be “one united people”.
Best wishes to all who are celebrating the Tamil and Indian new year!
