Don't feel too sorry him for all we know this has been going on for years & years. Someone should do a toothpick & office stationary audit:biggrin:

While they are at it better check if he made claims on a Brompton bicycle.

feel sorry for him? singapore saved a lot of money by not paying his salary any longer. I am so happy. Nearly went to geylang to celebrate.

corruption has always been rampant in civil service. exposure is the problem. everything is covered. the head is thinking of only himself. for example there is one who owes the bank 160k now. his pay is only 3k plus! even a lifetimes in civil service cannot clear that. yet they keep him. another one who will turn criminal

They are overpaid, & have the mentality that the money they earn from the public; is not only heaven sent, but an eternal spring. I am not being jealous or what, it is fair that anybody is paid for his/her worth & puts in his/her share of work. But, they definitely are overpaid...it is quite common to see a lot of these people at property launches, car sales...etc

I have observe one staying near me, an Air force officer...had changed car, three times in two years....each time graduating to a much expensive one...must damn well paid in the Air Force!!..that is a civil servant!!

I happen to like this LEE brand pineapple juice & their can pineapple cubes...have exercised recent years, for Pineapples have one of the highest sugar content. Looking at the case...the 'pineapple tarts' was a smoke cover, more must have transpired...too embarrassing to expose, so blame it on the TARTS!! Just like the 'limping man' story..who limped all the way from Onraet Rd to Jalan Toa Payoh, near to the school of the BLIND!!...ha ha ha ha

The case against Lim Cheng Hoe, who was chief of protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), will be heard again during a second pre-trial conference set for Nov 22.

Lim, 60, was charged earlier this month with falsifying expense claims of almost $89,000 purportedly for wine and pineapple tarts meant for as gifts for foreign diplomats or delegates.

The adjournment on Friday is for the defence to make further representations, said Lim's lawyer Nicklaus Tan from Harry Elias Partnership. Mr Tan added that Lim is still taking instructions and has yet to claim trial.

Lim allegedly cheated the ministry and a separate government unit by falsifying receipts, and by using genuine receipts but with inflated claims of the number of items used for official purposes to cover up his ruse.

In all, he claimed for 10,075 boxes of pineapple tarts and 248 bottles of wine. But only 2,226 boxes of the tarts and 89 bottles of wine were actually used.

this is not just a simple pineapple tart cheating case. I strongly believe that there is an element of corruption behind this. MFA might have a secret deal with pineapple tart supplier and received lucrative commission. For example, how much is the actual price of the pineapple tart? how much did MFA pay for these tarts?
Did MFA go through the proper tender procedure?
I will send an open letter to CPIB shortly. stay tune

the science of happiness: we can make our own happiness (ie contentment is a state of our mind)
pay has never been the issue. when we went for high pay, we went for people with higher objective levels of contentment.

The former Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) protocol chief, Lim Cheng Hoe, who faces 60 counts of cheating the ministry of almost $89,000, indicated through his lawyers that he will plead guilty at a pre-trial conference on Thursday.

MFA official charged over false expense claims

Lim Cheng Hoe, who was chief of protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), was charged in court on Thursday with falsifying expense claims of almost $89,000 for wine and pineapple tarts

The popular pastry - some 10,075 boxes of it - and wine were purportedly meant to be used as gifts during overseas trips made by MFA officials.

Lim allegedly cheated the ministry and a separate government unit that handles reimbursements on 56 and four occasions respectively.

The court heard that he made claims for pineapple tarts and wine from 2008 to last year, which he did not actually pay for or use during the trips.

The 60-year-old allegedly falsified receipts, or used genuine receipts but inflated in claims the number of items used for official purposes, to cover up his ruse.

In all, he claimed for 10,075 boxes of pineapple tarts and 248 bottles of wine. But only 2,226 boxes of the tarts and 89 bottles of wine were used as gifts for foreign diplomats or delegates.

The value reflected in each of the charges Lim faces ranged from $280 to $5,080.

Lim was protocol chief at the MFA for about 10 years. He headed the ministry's section that was responsible for organising ministerial and presidential trips overseas, and was the go-to guy for diplomatic protocol during his 38 years at the MFA.

The ministry, responding to queries from The Straits Times on Thursday, said Lim was suspended from all duties and a police report was made after evidence suggesting misconduct was discovered.

"Whether he remains in service or not depends on the outcome of his case," added the spokesman.

"As the case is before the courts, we cannot comment further."

His lawyer, Mr Philip Fong, asked for the case to be adjourned to make representations.

A pre-trial conference is set for Oct 25. Lim's police bail of $100,000 has been extended.

The maximum penalty for cheating is 10 years' jail and a fine.

The theory that higher salary and perks would keep a civil servant morally upright in the civil service is no longer true. Look at recent cases in SG. It is indeed shocking ranging from demands for sex and money to theft of the cookie jars. Durai NKF scum got so much in pay and perks but someone said it was all just peanuts. What kind of country do we have now?

I have a question.

If Lim Cheng Hoe had any sex with Pineapple Tart auntie?
why CPIB never step in to check?
