i heard in us that updates are controlled by those carriers and phone manufacturers as well. do singapore do that also? android seem to have updating issue because of that and they are rectifying the problem with ics?

No lah all phones sold in sg are unlocked. So you can use any phone on any phone network no problem. I am aware that some phones in the US are locked to a certain network like phones sold by AT&T. It's not only android phones but iphones as well. That's the problem with some telecos in the US and mostly for US ppl after all which other country in the world puts the month before the day when showing the date just to be different.

Why on earth would you want to watch videos on a phone in the first place???? If you want to enjoy HD, get yourself a 50" screen not a 4.3" one.

sometime you fly on those amercian airlines, which still use old plane with no personal video.

I tell you, you will be shock by the HD video on samsung, i mean it is crystal sharp and smooth as baby bottom. I tried both 720p, but i encounter problem with 1080i and 1080p files, mac cannot transfer file bigger than 4GB.

Well it's a given that mobile devices won't be able to play all the video files available BUT let's be honest the android phones can play a bigger variety of video types compared to the iphone. In any case you can always use the PC to convert the mkv files to another format in which the phone can play it smoothly. If you have the i7 cpu series 2nd generation which has onboard graphics it's very easy and it takes a short time to convert video files into another format in which mobile devices can play them.

I beg to differ in this aspect. UNLESS the source in which you d/l the vid from is a well known source or you paid money to d/l the video for eg there's also a chance the vid itself does not sync with the sound. I ever encountered that with a video i d/led from before and i actually reencoded it to play better. Anyway let's leave phones video capabilities aside for a while and talk about you watchin HD anime in mkv format. Sounds like you get these files from some community based type of site where someone converts blu ray anime shows into mkv format to share with ppl on the site am i correct?

Nowadays if you own a 2nd generation i7 cpu sandybrides at least you can cut down on encoding video files even those large movie files that are hours long. Now that ivy bridges is released video encoding should be faster anyway even without using the inbuilt gpu on sandy bridge and using the old fashioned method most desktop cpus should have at least 4 cores in which it wouldn't take that long to encode a video from blu ray to an mkv file for eg.

Yes samsung can definitely play more different video types compared to the iphone. Iphone can only play mp4 video files and you better make sure these mp4 files are encoded to the iphone specification to guarantee they play perfectly. Therefore in cases like these you need a pc to encode some videos.

OK it seems that the galaxy SIII also uses a micro sim card. So now i know 4 phones that use micro sim. iphone4, 4s, HTC one X and galaxy sIII. Seems like wiki doesn't have a list of phones that use micro sims but many sim cards sold world wide are still normal sized.

Can I ask a simple question as my contract is about due soon?

For a non-techie who only only know how to press ON/OFF/HOME button and need :
1. Use sms/whatsapp and require the 'chain' grouping of messages from individual senders.
2. Check emails and make notes on the go
3. Make calls, hence easy search of directory is impt
4. Log into internet to search for info on the go
5. Lots of free work applications!

Should I stay with my iphone or move to Andriod phone like Samsung G3?

Best choice for your needs is Samsung Note ... for it's larger screen to suit your item 2, 4 and 5.
Also S-Pen input may give you more flexibility in notes taking and other office applications.
Your item 1 and 3 can be met by most smartphones.

NO NO NO, i never said that, i said it does not play itune movie like m4v, but it plays itune music m4a just fine.

If you know what is m4v, you know that it is same as mp4, and the only reason is political, not technical.
