That keeps our unemployment numbers looking rosy indeed. How do our leaders measure "intent"? How many of those laid off PMEs below the official retirement age actually intend to retire or are no longer interested in searching for a job a mere 6 months following their retrenchment?
If u ate yesterday, do u still need to eat today? Lol.... lost interest in searching for a job and wait for money to drop from Heavens?
Pay And Pay wants to create their own version of "reality" to look like they have done a marvellous job of keeping the unemployment rate low.

I think once the kids enters Primary school, they are obliged to serve NS.
I don't mean to be rude and insulting but parents are dumb too for allowing themselves to be a burden to their kids. Why do parents not know how to be independent at old age. Why be a drag on your adult kid's life?
It's saying that job market is healthy but nobody is taking up the jobs i.e. the unemployed lazy asses. At the same time, those that are employed get retrenched.lol so iz not juz me having a hard time deciphering todae’s headline

Only 26% of S'porean residents between the ages of 25 to 34 possessed university degrees in the year 2000. Today, more than 50% of this age group consists of graduates, and the trend is continually rising. If only 50% of available jobs are for professionals, managers and executives (PMEs) and almost 60% of our population are tertiary educated, then many of them are going to be doing blue-collar jobs.
The problem of rising underemployment among degree holders in S'pore is hardly surprising, as this has been a trend in developed economies for decades. First World countries struggling under massive amounts of debt are unable to generate enough jobs for the cluster of graduates entering the workforce every year. The situation is aggravated by the incompatibility between the content of university courses and the range of abilities required to fill job vacancies.
Whirlwind changes in the economy and disruptive new technologies replacing jobs are turning traditional economic sectors into sunset industries. Emerging sectors create new jobs for graduates that require different skills, but mid-career workers are not upgrading themselves sufficiently to fill these positions. The problem in S'pore is worsened by our govt offering to absorb unemployed PMEs from India when so many local degree holders are without jobs.
Very tough for sinkees.Once u have kids,the financial burden is heavy and enormous.Some so stressed up ,want to to give up also cannot,have to carry on the meaningless life in Singapore.
