remember these places ?

Was he Malay??, I still remember him, with his plastic revolver, bullets & Sherif badge, pity Star Wars wasn't shown then yet, when he was around, John Wayne was the Hero of the West. He used to stand at the Bus Stop where Pavilion the shop & Bibi Baba Was, whch id now somewhere between the present Courts Store is ( last time, OG & before New York Department Store).

Wonder if he is still alive?

Malay. If alive, should be late 70s. Yes, Pavilion. In front of the bus stop and one kpt. Noodle stall was bagus. Bibi & Baba was further down the road. Good and cheap. But, Amco, Wrangler, Lee and Texwood were THE brands.

me too havent been. Stopped reading those westerns since the mid 80s...but still have some of them in my mum's place...JT Edson stuff,

Louis L'amour and the Breed series.

Wonder if we still can dress up like "John Wayne" with the cowboy boots, Hat, plastic bullets & revolver & walk down Orchard Road, without someone calling the SBF or appearing on STOMP or You Tube??

By the way, have not been to Shaw Centre for a long time, is that shop selling Cowboy books etc. still there?

ha...i didnt get my speedo until late teens. Bought one that had darb blue, white and red vertical strips. Wore it until frayed :o

I recall the shop you mentioned. I bought my Speedo there too! Nearby, Sri Dewa and High Society Escort Services? Along Cairnhill Rd, one quite class male barber shop. I think called Cairns or something that sounds like that. Wtf, 4 decades passed like that.

AMCO has returned. There's an AMCO shop at Citysquare Mall.

Wow! Nice thread of old places. Other than the lsb, think very few can survive now.

The notorious lap sap bar the was CHOP KIM CHUAN aka as CKC Bar, MOSCOW Bar, Sing Sing Sing.
Happy Hours - two large Anchor beers for only $7/-.
Touch touch extra to pay.
A tip of $1/ was a big sum then.
Walls were infested with tiny Cockroaches, as it fed on ejaculated sperm targetted at the walls.

I opine it's gonna be difficult for them to make a comeback. Doubt if youngsters would go for the brand. Lots of choices nowadays. I buy Giordano these days. Cheap and good. Lasting too.

ya too bad about the group....when joe started to do gospel music they had to disband.

Jungle people, i cant stand the rain, never gonna let you go , words ( f r david version )

Yes nice days.

Joe and the X-periments
Oh Jungle People we hare happy people.
Use to watch the group in Shangrila Hotel in the 80's
Joe was then a devout Hindu.
His wife and he then opened the House of Israel.
There was a big court case.
Never heard of him anymore.

Have a good day mates.

That took place a decade ago - playing with zip. Those were the days - Aurora at Hotel Royal and United Square, Arabesque and Isobella. Nowadays, more decent at HFJs - TCSS only.

i've never been to HFJ ....no naughty stuff in there right?

last time amco jeans got a tv advert song that goes like this : every amco tells a story, every amco has a story inside..

anyone remember?

Yes I remember SILO, still have a mental picture of what the logo looked like. "Pay You Cock" is rumoured to be hiding in ROC!

It was then known as PIEU/SILO supermarkets. Primary Industries Employees Union (PIEU). If not wrong SILO stood for Singapore Industrial Labour Organisation.
These were the days which catapulted Tan Wah Piow and Theyvendran to fame.
Theyvendran was the one who created the scar on Phey Yew Kok's face. He threw a stone at him. During that period, Theyvendran was with SATU (Singapore Airport Workers Union).
He was sent to jail.
Tan Wah Piow was a rising star from the University of Singapore Students Union, who organised a strike involving PIEU/SILO.
TWP is now in London where he was given refuge by the British.
This were also the days when Justice Sinnathuray was a familiar name in the Courts.
