Reform Party starts visits to Punggol East

There are always new people. Apart from WP, more people will join NSP and SDP. Definitely more than enough to fill RP's vacancies..

Maybe I have too high an expectation. Many candidates in GE2011 can be considered the "cannot-make-it" type. The Oppo should feel happy if they can find new or to improve the existing ones.

And dun forget, by 2016, maybe there will be 870 seats up for grab instead of 87

In this perspective, I expect WP to be noble enough to take a step back and allow the opposition as a whole to field its best talent.

This is perhaps the reason why KJ should contest in Punggol East, as Osman pointed out, the WP's talent pool is a little dry, KJ is definitely a more qualified person to speak in Parliament than any of the potential WP candidates.

Many people here have short memories. Just 16 months back, members of all the oppo parties, except WP, were running around like headless chickens trying to support candidates except TT during the presidential election. Indeed, most people on SBF were supporting TJS. He came in 3rd and took just 25% of the vote - a pathetic proportion. WP was wise to keep its head down then and not endorse anyone. That proved to be totally correct. WP should now just proceed with its own plans for the BE. People don't like it then they can make their usual empty threats to withhold support for WP at the next GE. Like their 1 pitiful vote, and that of members of their family, count in the grand scheme of things?

Those in PE who are die hard PAP fan will still vote for PAP, no matter what, so what's the big fuck another opposition goes in for a 3 corner or 10 corner fight?
This is a part of a democratic process and looks like some Sinkies still believe that only their choice of candidate can contest and the rest should fuck off. Typical sinkified mentality.

Can make it - actively engaging voters.

Btw actively publishing articles online does not mean engaging voters. Unless of course we are talking about online politicians.

Sorry, just to digress a bit from the main topic...

The 25% that TJS secured in last year's PE is not a pathetic result as such and is attributed to the support the man got from the diehard opposition voters. TT received 35% which is the support level from the diehard PAP supporters whereas TCB's 35% share is a mix of both PAP and opposition supporters. If all opposition supporters were to vote only for TJS, then the end result would have been very different.

To many (whether in the 40% or 60%), he may appear to them as a 'smiling zombie' of sorts. He just lacks that sparkle.
Only the more-sophisticated will appreciate where he's coming from, but certainly not the average moronic 'Sinkie'. He is too advanced for those.

Because his speaking mannerism is exactly like many of the soulless pap ministers like lim hk, TCH etc.

Thanks for your response. You see, you say "if". "If" is a hypothesis or theory, not a fact. And you do not seem to get my point. Yet, you touch on it in your own message when you refer to "diehard opposition voters". By that definition, "diehard opposition voters" are not mainstream. They would begin to be mainstream once they approximate close to half the electorate. Hence, 25% is truly pathetic. And that is why when TJS called for an anti-PAP coalition after last year's PE, he was simply ignored by most in the opposition parties.

We can talk and pass comments on all the candidates for the forthcoming (hopefully) BE of Punggol East.

That is our right and there are avenues like this Forum to do so.

Whichever party sends in their representative into the "Battle of Punggol East" will have to do so after a careful parley with all the other opposition parties.

Whoever is chosen to lead his "Shock Troops" will have to have in his or her arsenal all the weapons that are to be effectively used to win that war.

Finally at the end of the day, it is the residents of that battleground who will have to make a decision.

Singaporeans by and large have gone through many wrong decisions. These has made them more mature.

So all opposition parties, please set a date for a meeting and then choose someone agreeable to all as the leader of that battle ahead.

Punggol East may become the Waterloo of the PAP.

A very apt term, smiling zombies. Another group of pap ministers are smiling vampires. Think LHL is definitely a smiling vampire.

There's really no need to go that extent, though that is to a large extent also true.

Rather, it is infinitely more meaningful for morons to just think of the astronomical amount of salary that is going into his pocket.

Anyone can talk a lot, and make endless speeches. But if the listeners fail to see through, they definitely deserve the label "morons".

5-way battle looming:

When asked of the possibility of a five-way battle in Punggol East after several opposition parties expressed interest, he laughed and quoted a Chinese saying: "You hear the sound coming from the stairway, and you wait to see if anyone comes down."

But the PAP would definitely be prepared, he quickly added.

think that it doesn't matter if 1 or 5 opposition parties other than WP contest the by-election. all those parties would gather and share Desmond Lim 5% votes ( maybe slightly more ) among themselves.

but that 5% spoiler votes which 90% would go to WP in a straight fight against PAP? might just prevent a WP razor-thin victory.

Agree. Either way it matters little to the WP.

RP and SDP claim that they have support. Then I say, be there on Nomination Day and file your papers or be square.
Those who talk big should put their money where their mouth is.
