[h=5]Punggol East SMC[/h]I welcome the release of the documents by National Environment Agency (“NEA”) so that the public can make their own judgment.

In response, we are also releasing, at Annex A, the email thread from NEA to Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council (“AHPETC”) stating that “the Hawkers Association will make the necessary arrangements with their contractors on the scaffold erection / dismantling during the spring cleaning period from 4 – 8 March 2013”.

[h=5]"AHPETC has been consistent in its attitude and is always prepared to cooperate with government agencies for the benefit of the residents it serves. However, the Minister should not mistake this to mean that AHPETC can be bullied or is an easy target to be used by the government to score political points.

As this episode wore on and even earlier in April 2013, the Minister visited the hawker centres at various markets in Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East (AHPE) town. In doing so, the Minister could have used his not insignificant powers as Minister overseeing the NEA and exercised his leadership to reach out to all parties, including both the Hawkers Association and AHPETC, to resolve any matter amicably. We expected that as Minister, he would use his office to play a positive and constructive role in this episode, but this was apparently not to be."[/h]Media Release - 10 June 2013 | AHPETC

have been truthful in communicating the Town Council’s position on the facts of the matter concerned. Equally, there is no reason to doubt the honesty of Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council (“AHPETC”) staff in this matter. If the Minister has any proof to the contrary, he should present

Time for WP-run town councils and NEA to move on: Low Thia Khiang

Mr Low Thia Khiang struck a conciliatory note, saying that the hawkers need peace to do business. -- ST PHOTO: DESMOND WEE

By Andrea Ong

WORKERS' Party (WP) chief Low Thia Khiang sought to draw a line under the long-running dispute over the cleaning of hawker centres in Aljunied GRC yesterday, calling on all parties involved to move on.

Weighing in for the first time on the saga, Mr Low struck a conciliatory note, saying the WP-run Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council (AHPETC) will continue to work with the National Environment Agency (NEA) "to solve problems on the ground and to address the issues".

"We should move on from the current issue," he told The Straits Times at his Meet-the-People Session in Aljunied GRC last night.
"I would expect the town council to continue to work with NEA for environmental issues on the ground, be it market hygiene, cleanliness, be it littering, be it the dengue fever issue, be it midges at Bedok Reservoir issues," said the MP for Bedok Reservoir-Punggol division.

Attended the opening ceremony of 'Teochew Cultural Festival' at Ngee Ann Kongsi. I was surprised and very impressed to see very young performers. They picked up the skills and techniques about 5 years ago. Thank you for keeping the tradition and trade alive

Picture taken today at about 2pm when I was doing my random estate check. PSI at 2pm and AQI reading at 8am were 104 and 202 respectively.

NEA has advised that people with heart or lung disease, children and older adults should avoid all physical activity outdoors. Everyone else should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion.

[h=5]Punggol East SMC[/h]On Saturday, 15th June, MP Lee Li Lian sponsored a lunch to honour the cleaners working in the northern part of Punggol East. The lunch was held outside the Town Council office at Blk 156A, Rivervale Crescent. The twenty-plus cleaners, made up of both locals and foreigners, have been working very hard to keep the estate clean since the handover of Punggol East to AHPETC on 1st May. The lunch was not planned to commemorate International Cleaners Day, but it was a happy coincidence that lunch fell on the Day. Thank you to all our cleaners for keeping our neighbourhood spick and span! Another lunch is planned for the cleaners working in the other parts of the town.

Dear Residents,

We deeply regret that we have to postpone the one-day trip to Muar on 23 June one month later to 28 July due to the haze situation. The pollution has reached hazardous levels and everyone should avoid unnecessary outdoor activity.

The Government has indicated that we should expect the current haze levels to continue for the coming weeks. According to a Straits Times report on 20th June 2013, the haze situation in Muar has also reached hazardous levels. For your health and safety, and for our volunteers', we decided that the best course of action is to postpone the trip.

We sincerely hope you can follow us on the tour to Muar on Sunday, 28 July 2013. We have been eagerly planning for the trip.

Please contact [email protected] for more details and please do remember to leave your name and contact number in the email for us to get back to you as soon as practicable.

We will also be contacting all residents who purchased tickets and will station volunteers at the pick-up points to inform residents who could not be reached.

We seek your understanding and patience.

Lastly, we are thankful towards the tour agency for their understanding in allowing us to postpone the trip.

It was an honour to be able to attend the 1st anniversary of Teochew Federation (Singapore) last night. The event was well attended by close to 1000 guests and their family members from the 8 different Teochew organizations in Singapore as well as overseas. The guest of honour for the evening was President Dr Tony Tan. Mr Low Thia Khiang, Dr Lim Wee Kiak and Ms Ellen Lee were present too.

It was indeed a great platform for me to interact with Teochews from all walks of life.

Teochews came from Southern Guangdong, China ie: Chao An, Puning, Jieyang, Chenghai, Huilai, Chaoyang, Raoping counties and Nan' ao.

It never cross my mind to find out where my ancestors were from until I was invited by Ngee Ann Kongsi to be on-board their committee.

I came to understand that it's important and interesting to know our roots. My ancestors were from Chao An, what about you

[h=5]The 'Order Paper' which is the document that lists the agenda for Parliament sitting in the House is usually made available online 1 working day before the sitting takes place.

Since the next sitting is on 8th July 2013, the 'Order Paper' is now available on the Parliament website. There are many questions on the recent Haze as well as the latest online licensing imposed by MDA. Click on the link to find out what some of these questions are.

Have you heard of 'Dignity Kitchen'?

Since its operation from Oct 2010, 'Dignity Kitchen' is Singapore's first hawker training school for disabled and disadvantaged people.
Visit their website or 'Like' them on FB to find out more about them.

This is a picture taken together with the organizers for this afternoon's 'Hawker for the day' program.

Attended 4 wakes in the last 2 days. One of them was the recent Kovan murder case. The younger Tan, Mr Tan Chee Heong, is a resident of Punggol East whom I happened to speak to on Tuesday evening. We met briefly in life.

May peace be with the families I've visited.

Life is indeed unpredictable.
