Pappy old dog pushing for 10m population

Hey, please don't insult the Architect of Modern Singapore. When he dies there will be a memorial erected in his honour. ;)

Founding father of S'pore, now architect of modern S'pore . Wonder who is the chicken king of modern S'pore. All these titles mean nothing.

Doggie's father and mother also migrated to Perth and his artist father mati oredi and buried in Perth.

While Doggie's family resides on an one acre block at Peppermint Cove (Perth equivalent to Nassim Road), S'poreans can squeeze among 10m population.

So they are all the same..talk one thing and do another..or at least, are not what they seem to be portrayed by the local media.

and soon they will reshape OZ into stinkapore 2.0 obie good. that's why you can't be too liberal with immigration.

Hey dumbass. It's not a matter of 'smooth planning and execution'. Singapore is already overpopulated. Stop the madness already.

In 10 years time, those leaving the workforce will number almost 2 to 1 those remaining as they reach retirement age. Unless our women have more babies to replace the shrinking workforce, it is almost a foregone conclusion that Singapore has to bring in more foreigners to top up the slack in order to keep the economy growing. But the government is keenly aware that population growth cannot exist in a vacuum. So, there is a big push after the 2011 GE to expand and upgrade infrastructure, housing, transportation, decentralization of CDB so as to cater to the population expansion in the near future.

The truth is Singapore can accommodate 6.9M people and the question is not longer if , but when and how.

Relying on population growth to drive GDP is a stupid idea. It is not sustainable

I'll be the first to say "No" to an overcrowded Singapore.

Fuck your economy.

Tell me what else ?

it's honorable and gracious for the island state to serve as an (opt-out) organ transplant haven for the world's elites, illuminaries, geniuses, game changers, and billionaires. the more clueless farm animals the better. :p

There are many avenues like R&D, growing a very strong SME environment, strengthening our banking sector and IT sector with local talents targetting entreprenurals. To achieve these, take a longer term approach. Revisit top policies like education, social safety nets, and encourage creativity.

Dont go sprout nonsense that we are aleady doing these because we are doing it in the wrong spirit. For example the grants government has are only given to successful ideas. The civil servants want "pao jiak" projects.

Temaseks and all the big corporations can adopt a big brother approach when they enter a market, like Taiwan, China and other countries. They can include budding companies in Singapore to help expose them and giving them an opportunity to grow. This will have a lead on effect.

Temasek and GIC can create a Singapore fund to fund good ideas, not their cronies, and help nurture them.

Education reform is another big thing. Teach Singaporeans that it is ok to fail. Create safety nets for these.

Our GDP numbers are total rubbish. We are an export led country and GDP for SG is just a reflection of how much we produce to export. The impact internally is quite minimal. The only benefit it creates is to pay bonuses to our ministers because its their KPI. We can accept a lower GDP number. Anyway, we are currently standing at 3%, its nothing to crow about, considering we are importing people like fuck and still only 3%...

There are many more things that we can do, but then again, i am not paid millions to figure it out.

i think growing the country's gdp via the way of population ponzi is a very low value added and braindead way of growing the economy.on the whole,on paper it looks good,it might seem like the country is growing richer, but when u look at the individual, from a per capital, person by person basis, our standard of living, our quality of life, our purchasing power may actually be stagnant or even declining.u are just adding more human bodies to the equation, not actually growing our standard of living,by increasing our productivity, efficiency and earning power and helping us move up the value chain, helping individual singaporeans become more valuable workers working more high value jobs.

i dont see how a economy thats based on importing more people to grow more domestic demand, and building more hdb flats and condos and shopping malls to fulfill this demands, and then importing more

The idea of importing foreigners is not to bring boatload of refugees into Singapore. Only the select few who has the qualifications and talents will be accepted. There will be a certain % of low wage workers ( construction and the like ) that we will need to have no matter how, but the government is more targeting at the high talent cluster when they talk about growing the population to 6.9M. If we do not attract these talents, they will go somewhere.

The concept is not new. That how's the Silicon Valley in California is able to harness the strengths and talents of many immigrants to forge a technological leadership in the world. Singapore has wanted to be the financial hub, educational hub and medical / biotechnology hub in South East Asia. That strategy has to be drafted in unfortunately due to our limited talents and resources.

If you really think about it, the only resource that Singapore has is its people. And therefore, there is a critical need to ensure that we have the best people talents to continue to build and grow the economy.

5.5m already cannot make it, still want 10m?

That is just the question of how. but it is a fair question because if we don't plan correctly, we will end up on the down side which is overcrowding, poor quality of life, congestion, disharmony, clashes of culture and so on.

Fundamentally, ask yourself what will attract others to invest in Singapore ?

Call it quits, acknowledge that the island's at a saturation point. Have the wisdom to accept that there are some things you cannot change.

The Opps will call it quits. They will want us to remain status quo and remain stagnant 10 years, 20 years from now.The reality is others will be eating your lunch soon if you do not progress. Look at China. Look at South Korea. Look at US. Then look at Greece. Go figure.

Cloning can be an option for our state if it is sanctioned by UN.

I'll be the first to say "No" to an overcrowded Singapore.

If the PAP cannot plan well in the next 5 to 10 years and the result is overcrowding, yes they deserve to be voted out.
