Papee planning early election

They strongly believed now is the frightfull period and peasant need a strong pillar to hold so there is no best time to conduct early election. But some analyst warned them what have happened in Thailand and Malaysia and even America. Actually there is no need to warn, their own policies have done a complete flawless damages already. First world of its kind too.
As usual, they are too sure of themselves.

Re: SHOWTIME: Papee planning early election

With the ungrateful Singaporeans, the best time to call an election is when the shit is ON the fan.

This time they will get shit is on their faces!

erection now? i can only say they going to get their candy ass whopped.....little pinky has been afraid of calling for a by election in Jurong GRC becos he knows even a win with a drop in percentage for them is a slap in the face for him...cos he knows that his gov is the most unpopular gov one so far...

correct, they don't even have the gut to hold a by-election what say a general one!

Many reasons:-

1 Capitalised on peasant fear and instill them to vote for papee again.
2 They need stronger mandate to push more hikes since HO JINX has already bankrupt this cuntry and thus:

a. All the more reason to hold back our C Pee F
b No more delay to increase GST to 10 - 12%
c More ERPee gantries from all directions
d They want Clown Council conservancy fee to increase (because of billions of dollars lost thru bad investments)
d and most importantly Papee want greater mandate to further increase their own salary under such difficult time.
3 Instead of concentrating on stabilising the economy they shifted focus on power stability.

Ladies and Gentlemen

Now is the time for change or face the music of more HIKES down the road. Peasants have suffered badly under the tyranny of PAPee in good years after the last election and expect much worst policies from PAPee in bad years. As the saying goes 'once bitten twice shy!!" please take heed and do not act like a fool and let robbers enter your house again and again.

I will not VOTE for a bunch of thieves in good or bad times.

when carrots, radishes and beetroots are handed out freely to peasants, u suspect there might be an erection soon.

after that, peasants can enjoy the handouts of bananas! LOL!:D

The present president is already 80 plus. He may just step down with health reasons.

They couldn't possibly risk having both the presidential elections together with General Elections..i.e. Presidential Elections is due 2011, as well as GE. It is just too close for their comfort.

With such great uncertainty ahead, they will always use the safer approach; remember GCT's remarks about Kiasu, Kiasi.. and Kiabo? LOL! ;)

Goh Meng Seng

u mean prataman might close shop and sell salted-egg when paps having their erection?

one very strange unanswered reason: why put an old man full of chronic sickness when they rejected the late OTC who was ok fr cancer then?

GST increase schedule may be an important part of the plan. If the PAP wants to increase GST further earlier, then they will call election election earlier. For we all know, they will increase GST further only after the next election.

By citing that GST will increase if Pap is voted in again, peasants will certainly vote with their hands and feet up to support opposition. This one item alone is sufficient to drag down the LEEgime. Since the sky is moving in favour of opposition parties, I hope more and more professionals can join their team to make changes in Singapore for a better tomorrow and most importantly make peasant richer so that they are willing to spend and grow the economy together. De-control or close down some of the establishment to avoid red-tap and encourage entrepenuership, give all Singaporean a leg-up in doing business without imposing hefty cost on them like rental, utilities...etc

I dun understand those useless opposition, they have so many bullets to use that can shoot those scums in white and yet when it comes to crunch time, they are stumbling over themselves....they should chroniclelized all the increases that were made these last few years in particular those after the erection and remind the peasants of what will be in store if they will put absolute power into the hands of those scums again...

bapok PAP dog who dunno you're good in bashing your father, stealing temple donation money, cheating and conning frenz!

well, the present economic is so bad.
so going by the traditional trend, more people will vote for them.
so it is not very surprise if they were to call an election, next year.

Re: SHOWTIME: Papee planning early election

It's a plot. Loong wants opps to unveil their policies and then modify and become theirs. Then 2 yrs later at the rallies, Loong says opps got no ideas and solutions and none of them capable to sigh FTAs.

There is no law that says the opposition must play to Loong's words.

Let's say it is true that opps got no ideas and solutions. Then what should opps do? Start coming out with ideas and solutions? Because Loong say so? Because the PAP IB deride them for their lack of solution? And the opps buy into this?!!!?

A VALUE PROPOSITION

What is the value of opps?

The value of the opposition is to make a better PAP.

A PAP that will be more accountable. A PAP that will be more responsible with the people's money. A situation where the PAP's decisions and actions are tracked by the opps so that the people will know just how effective the PAP really are.

If the opps buy into this idea, then what sort of ideas and solutions are needed?

None!

Because their platform is not based on ideas and solutions. It is based on who they are.

The PAP may take away their ideas and solutions. But the PAP cannot take away the value of an opposition.

The primary thing that the opps need to do, with great conviction and enthusiasm and publicity, is that they need to spread the message that by their presence in Parliament, to the tune of 1/3, they will promise to check on the PAP.

This will benefit all Singaporeans - indians, chinese, malay, new migrants. All, without exception.

One opposition which benefits All people.

ARGUMENTS FOR AND AGAINST

There will be obvious attacking points for the PAP - what is LTK and CST doing all these times? If this 1/3 is led by them, what sort of rubbish checks and balances will you have? SDP is so radical that they will turn Parliament into a battleground. If PAP is blocked, then they cannot carry out their ideas so that the citizens will suffer. Now there is an economic crisis, if citizens do not give the PAP mandate and the PAP need to look after their shoulders due to the opposition, then the citizens will suffer. Migrants, you come into this country because you trust us. Now you are voting for the opposition?! Will you not screw yourself and your future because of this?

There are also obvious counters for all these.

The deciding point will be how willing the opposition are in reaching out to these people and assure them of their value and goodness. If their attitude is that they should do that only during the 8 days of campaigning and expect to win, then they should perhaps think it over.

AN ALTERNATIVE STRATEGY

Now let's take the position that the opposition do have ideas and solutions.

By all means reveal them only at the 8 days of campaigning.

But from now till those 8 days, reach out to the people and share with them, what sort of good a 1/3 opposition in Parliament can do.

Do they have a record of bills passed in Parliament for the past two years, their queries against such bills and how a 1/3 presence can make all the difference to the people's lives?

ARGUMENTS FOR AND AGAINST

Possible argument: Does it mean that they will always vote against these bills?

Suggested answer: No! They will only do so if they are convinced that such bills are against the interests of the people.

Suggested reply: Then the PAP will not be able to govern this country well.

Suggested answer: There are many ways to skin the cat. The PAP has accessed to the experts in government. The opposition does not. So what sort of alternatives did the experts suggest?

Suggested reply: But LTK is on the various select Parliamentary committees. He understood these issues.

Suggested answer: But ... and so on, so forth.

CONCLUSION

There is no primrose path. Dr Chee already led his party out of the Elections. That leaves only WP, NSP, SPP, RP and any other new party that may emerge, to champion the cause for the voters.

It looks like the PAP will continue to win. That's the good news.

But will there be a 1/3 presence in Parliament? That's what some voters are looking forward to.

Is that what the Opposition wants or they want to take over the entire government? It will be good for them to work out a collective and practical strategy.

Whatever strategy they espoused, it needs two things: (1) an ability to carry it out and (2) the agreement of the majority of voters.

Re: SHOWTIME: Papee planning early election

Attract reasonable good able candidates and BEES baby;)

I think at this point of time in Singapore political context, a opposition is required not so much to be an alternative to those scums or better then them but more so to be a check and balance opposition against the constant and blatant abuse of power by them...

Re: SHOWTIME: Papee planning early election

Attract reasonable good able candidates and BEES baby;)

So they can't atrract reasonably good candidates, they can't win?

Right now, they have adequately good candidates: LTK, SL, GMS, Ejay (I believe there are others, just that i am not familar with the landscape*)

*and what does that prove? It proves that the opposition need to publicise themselves more so that they are familar names to the voters

Right now, the more important issue is:

(1) to brand their party, so that people will vote for their party rather than the candidate

(2) to explain their value, so that people will vote for the value they give rather than the candidate

(3) to showcase their leaders, so that the people will vote for the leaders rather than the candidate
The Opposition can always blame the lack of candidates. BUT until such time they take responsibility for their own branding and communications, they will not be able to attract the votes they need and in turn not be able to attract the candidates.

It is a vicious cycle. But the Opposition needs to take responsibility for breaking it.
