Early election is held so that part of the young cohort who are likely to vote against the PAP will not have reached 21 and so cannot vote. If they wait till 2011, more of these youngsters with a mind of their own will be able to cast at the ballot box - most likely against the incumbent. In the meantime more new pink ICs will be given out to counter the drop in votes against the ruling party. The new citizens will, in gratitude, vote for the PAP. It is so patently obvious that after the less than scintillating display by the PAP at the last polls that there was a big push to get new citizens under the guise of increasing our talent pool. In reality, it is just to boost the PAP's votes.

Well if they know they WILL be doing badly in 2011, then it's consider that they are doing well now, so if your logic is correct, they will call the election before shit hits the fan.

With the ungrateful Singaporeans, the best time to call an election is when the shit is ON the fan.

Dear Frank,

This SIW's propensity towards tinkering with the CPF is a matter of track record. Everytime there is a recession they say that it's "a bitter pill" but in the long run.. blah blah blah.. I don't how many bitter pills can the people swallow anymore.

Their promise of reinstating the CPF to previous levels when the economy was booming was never fulfilled.

They think the only way to reduce costs for businesses is to lower CPF contributions whereas as you so rightly pointed out other nations are in fact reducing corporate tax. You reduce these taxes but still gain revenue from employed people. Well basic economics is never their forte anyway.

Reducing corporate taxes is the right way to go but we cannot expect these million dollar morons to think as their fat arses lay glued on cushions lined with thousand dollar notes.

why would they call for a presidential erection? there is no indication that the prata man will be stepping down not unless they decide to bump him off a la nair style..and more over with such a good dog like that ah neh to rubber stamp all their policies and also ah neh is enjoying his million dollars worth of prata, they are more then happy to let him stay on...

The present president is already 80 plus. He may just step down with health reasons.

They couldn't possibly risk having both the presidential elections together with General Elections..i.e. Presidential Elections is due 2011, as well as GE. It is just too close for their comfort.

With such great uncertainty ahead, they will always use the safer approach; remember GCT's remarks about Kiasu, Kiasi.. and Kiabo? LOL!

All bloggers and forumners must focus on the elections campaigning to help oppositions win the election. No fighting among each other to break unity. Other countries politics or other affairs should be kept out of the discussion, no out-of-the topic boring talks please. Full utilisation of video and cartoons pic to bring messages across. Repeat and replay the policies and hikes made by PAP to show how they assisinate peasants in the last 5 years. All these constant blogging and reminders, and placards and satirical messages should not end until peasant cast their votes into the ballot box...and wait for election result at night. You will be surprised LEEgime will lost its power overnight by the power of people.

regarding the various constituencies voting patterns, does the opposition know everything that PAP know - considering all parties have their election agents to monitor the counting.

For Presidential Elections, Opposition parties will have no means to know the data as we are not involved in any counting nor counting agent. Only PAP will have such data via the elections department which is under PMO.

If its GE, yes, to a certain extend we could have the same data as precinct voting patterns but it does not help us that much as compared to PAP where it could use it to manipulate boundaries.

A Presidential Election will give PAP additional data and information on the "anti-establishment" votes.

That is true as I always considered the first presidential erection as the first true gauge of the nation support for the opposition or anti pap stands...as a vote for chua kim yeow was a vote against pap..as chua was practically an unknown and yet he managed to garner more then 40% of the vote..the scums must had pee in their pants when they realize the extend of the outcome..
