Being proud of one's own heritage doesn't mean you'll win elections. In Obama's case, his heritage is not shared by a majority of Americans.
Its like an spg vs a white chick .
But a SPG is not even white. Obama is actually half-white. He had a white mother, and two maternal white grandparents isn't it?
And besides, you folks can't seem to see the big picture and the future. Yes, americans have a conservative streak but they are also inclined to support change once they know that its good to have it.
I mean, look at history. Al Smith ran as a Catholic in 1928, and lost because Americans thought he would take orders from the Vatican. In 1961, when JFK ran, his religion was still an issue, but by then more Americans were comfortable with the idea that they could have a Catholic President.
And then look at blacks running for office nationwide, and statewide. In the past, blacks ran in districts that were mostly black- and they won because older blacks gave them their vote due to their civil rights history. But now more and more younger black politicians are running in 90% all-white districts and winning. They are also somehow less and less involved in the 50s and 60s civil rights protests simply because they were too young to get involved.
So this set the stage for Barack Obama to win. And since America's demographical is getting younger due to immigration, Barack Obama has a chance to win. To a Latino, an Asian, a younger black, and a younger white, race does matter- but on a positive note. They believe that regardless of race, talent counts more, and that's why they are gonna campaign for Obama because America needs to look foward, beyond their racial past, and look towards a brighter future.
And that's the main thing.
So are you guys continuing to look at the distant past, and think no country can ever go against history, or are you looking towards the future, and believing in a brighter future?
