Living in JB 3 (Johore)

The jam has caused a lot damage to our character. We're now less patience and tolerance. We got angry with the queue cutters and drivers who don't abide by the law. With the increased toll, it's just not worth sacrificing our time getting stucked in the jam.
It's also time for my children to learn to be less dependent on us in their daily travelling to school and socialising with their peers. (In term of transport)

I cant give any comments as you are using Woodlands side of the custom. I tried using like 7-8 years ago but gave up and since is a Tuas fan. I even tried testing the Tuas jams by reaching the JB custom at 6am or 7am and even 8am on a few selected days when I just wanna get a "feel" of the peak period. And everytime I gave myself 2 hours to clear the bloody jam, end up I will reach AYE in btw 30min to 90 minute. No such thing as 2 hours jam at all during peak hours on weekdays.

On weekends I kena 3-4 hours jam ( stationary type ) and I avoided it till now.

My family have been living in Jb and working/studying in SG for the last 5 years. Traffic jam is getting worse though tolls have been increased. We leave home, Terbrau side at 5am. On good days, will clear Woodlands checkpoint b4 6am. On bad days, 7am or later. We enjoy the extra space and cheaper groceries/food but the jam has taken a toll on our patience and family bond with our singapore relatives. We will move back to SG next year after weighing the pros and cons on the well beings of our teenage children. Public transport is so inconvenience that adult got to drive them around making it hard for them to be independent.
You can apply MACS for your housemaid but no guarantee that it will be approved. I were told by the agent at Orchard Parade Hotel that out of 3 applications on the day of my submission, only mine got approved.
Anyway above is just a sharing of my living in Jb's experience.

Ya, I know about the quicker clearance at 2nd link from my relatives. But since I'm staying at tebrau side, using 2nd link is not feasible. Distance is double and b4 I could reach 2nd link, I might get stuck on Pasir Gudang highway

I think your location in JB is not ideal. It sounds like quite a distance from CIQ.
For daily commuters it is best to stay as close to checkpoint as possible.

I have been a daily commuter for 23 years. My current place from JB CIQ is 3 mins, 2 mins+ if i drive very fast. I used to stay at a place 17 mins from CIQ, but the experience was horrible and it lasted for only 1 year before i moved on.

A 3-5 mins delay in reaching JB CIQ is a vast difference in term of traffic condition for morning jam. I understand how you feel here. If your JB place is 20 mins away from CIQ, i guess it is best treated as weekend summer house.

I stay near the Johor Art Gallery. It is towards the direction of Thistle Hotel from JB CIQ. Not a common choice among Singaporeans.

I hope you have had a good time in JB, and wish you all the best for next phase of life back in SG!

Thank you for your well wishes. We definitely had a good time in Jb. We enjoyed driving long distance to discover new places to eat and many spur of the moment day trips to Malacca. We enjoyed the open spaces. We'll definitely miss all this.

All the best with your move back! We have to make the best decision for our own family, there is no wrong or right answer :)

Just some quick updates:

1. Near the Helipad in Sunway sales office area in Medini, good commanding views of the seas.
2. Road from Medini, Avira/Sunway to seaside frontage open, can see the sea and is a good place for flying RC toys/quad.
3. Highway entrance to Nusa Sentral/HH alternate entrance is open. You could link up to it but the roads inside are a bit confusing and dirty still for now.
4. Lots of structures at the Puteri Harbour area now with interesting combinations. In the middle of a grassy field so some parts a bit muddy. Worth a visit on the weekends. There is a quiet and beautiful park area for photos near the government buildings there as well.
