bro Baimi,
tough luck.
yesterday's night was one of my happiest moment.
a double over our great rival and imagine the scoreline 4-1 to us.
the last time, they conceded 4 goals in a match at Old Trafford was in 1992 against QPR.
going to see those faces, mood and expression of my colleague who are Red Devils on Monday.

Chaps,

This must be THE best week for the Reds since Istanbul in 05'. Pure joy and pure bliss, first Real get totally snuffed out at Anfield and now the best icing on the cake, "wiping United to the floor" to quote Stevie G:p 1 bloody 4, can you believe that scoreline, at the "Theatre of Dreams" no less or should I say the "Theatre of Horrors" (on Sat night at least) Coming back from a goal down plus making it a double over United, pure delight and pleasure.

Steve McMahon - Oh ye of little faith (Look at his pundit prediction in Weekend Today); I am beginning to get sick and tired of the past Anfield top players who keep whacking the present Reds team

Wayne Rooney - Go cry over your hatred, Evertonian piece of shit. But to be fair he appeared to be one of the few United player's who had a good game and tried his best

Rajkumar of 93.8Live - Wanted to kiss your ugly face in joy, also thanks for your amusing performance on Ch27 last night together with Lim Han Ming of TNP and that funny Reds supporter at the end of the match

Fergie - "It is a hard one to take because I thought, really, we were the better team and the score does not reflect that," ; which bloody game were you watching you sore loser wanker? Be a gracious loser Fergie, Reds creamed United last night at Old Trafford and with Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez and Berba no less:smile:

Gallego99 - Dude your 1-4 prediction of a Reds win was ominous creepy and fantastic, all I can say is please continue with such predictions so long as it favours the Reds:biggrin:

To me the best Liverpool players last night were not Gerrard (although his penalty kick was pure class and forgive you for the whopping miss Stevie G) nor Torres (although Torres showed his world class abilities with the equaliser) but unsung heroes like Hyppia who showed pure class on the wrongside of 30 and being called up at the last moment to replace Arbeloa and Aurelio who managed to contain Ronaldo and capped off a brilliant performance with a world class free kick goal, what a beauty:smile: Lucas also deserves a pat on the back for not messing things up(which he usually does) and Dossena (whom I also dislike) put in a strong perfromance when he came on as a sub and capped off with a lovely volley goal, 2 goals in successive matches. Oh yes and Rafa deserves all the credit for getting his tactics right and spot in the most important week in Liverpool's season thus far, 2 for 2, way to go Rafa.

No doubt the EPL title is still United's to lose, let's get real here, however I think the Reds have shown that they are finally true contenders for the EPL title unlike previous seasons 'false dawns'. And there is still also the CL to consider. Enjoy this week and believe chaps, our time is coming, it is close, if not this season then hopefully next season. Come on you Reds:smile:

MU & their fans will remember this day when theyre HUMILIATED, OUTPLAYED, SNUFFED OUT & PLAY OUT OF THE PARK by a very rampant Liverpool side. And Liverpool, of all days, chose to do it in Old Trafford, a supposed fortress in their home ground.

The only consolation for MU & fans alike, theyre welcome & try to beat Liverpool next season by a 3 goal margin. If not, they can do do the following season & so forth.

1-4 is a very shameful scoreline.

Dont speak so soon yet. Eventhough Liverpool may not win the EPL title, but everyone will remember that's the season where Liverpool thumped the daylights out of MU at Old trafford. Games like these are marked on every fans' calender. Now dont tell me youre not disappointed your team got thumped? Didnt Rooney said before the game he wanted to end Liverpool's title chase there & then, at OT???

MANCHESTER UNITED 1-4 LIVERPOOL
Daily Mirror 16 March 2009

The warning signs have been there for some time. But when defeat eventually came, no-one could have imagined it would be so brutal and humiliating.

The title may still be within Manchester United's grasp this morning, but a four-point lead with a game in hand is scant consolation for them following their biggest home defeat in 17 years.

What Liverpool proved with this result is that if teams are bold enough to go at United there is a vulnerability that can be ruthlessly exposed.

For all the plaudits United received for setting a new Premier League record of 14 consecutive clean sheets, there had been a hesitancy and uncertainty about them in recent matches.

And on the biggest day of the season, against their fiercest rivals, those shortcomings were laid bare in the most embarrassing fashion as Liverpool re-ignited the title race.

Rio Ferdinand admitted the result was a "rude awakening" that proved the title race was far from over, despite United's commanding lead.

"Losing any game is disappointing, "said Ferdinand.

"But losing a big game like that to a big rival, with that scoreline, makes it even worse.

"We got a rude awakening with this game and a reminder that if we don't go out there and perform as a collective unit, then we're not going to get the results."

Sir Alex Ferguson's longstanding refusal to attend Premier League post-match press conferences spared the United boss some tough questioning, such as why he left Darren Fletcher, whom he has championed as a "big game player", on the bench.

The United chief rarely gets it wrong when it comes to team selection but pairing the inexperienced Anderson with Michael Carrick in central midfield was a mistake which gave Liverpool control in the middle of the pitch.

It was clear from the start on Saturday that Anderson had nowhere near the required match-sharpness having only just returned from six weeks out injured.

On MUTV, United's in-house television station, the questions to Fergie were predictably soft, but he was refreshingly frank in his analysis of his side's debacle.

"It's hard to defend a 4-1 defeat," said Fergie. "It's hard to take, particularly as I thought we were the better team. But when you win 4-1 at Old Trafford, you deserve all the plaudits you get.

"As always at this club, when you lose a game you have to respond. And that's what we'll do."

Nemanja Vidic has been United's most outstanding performer this season but he endured the kind of afternoon that will leave an indelible black mark on his reputation.

A calamitous gaffe which allowed Fernando Torres to cancel out Cristiano Ronaldo's penalty-spot opener was followed by a professional foul on Steven Gerrard which earned him a straight red.

Vidic's 75thminute dismissal came after Patrice Evra had conceded a penalty two minutes before the break, bringing down Liverpool skipper Gerrard, who duly converted from the spot.

And from the free-kick resulting from Vidic's sendingoff, Fabio Aurelio curled the ball past Edwin van der Sar, who conceded more goals in 90 minutes than he had done in all of his previous 23 games.

Substitute Andrea Dossena compounded United's misery in added time, lobbing Van der Sar after some more hapless defending.

By that stage Old Trafford was half-empty, United fans having seen enough destruction of their team. Fergie, though, was forced to stay to the bitter end.

The full impact of this result will become apparent on Saturday when United visit Fulham. Anything less than a win for Fergie's men and the title race is back on.

WHY MASCH, NOT TORRES, IS THE REAL RAFA MASTERSTROKE
The Guardian 17 March 2009

Not often does the person sitting at home see more than the spectator in the stadium, but it happened on Saturday when Liverpool beat Manchester United at Old Trafford, writes Richard Williams.

A couple of minutes before the kick-off, while the television camera was lingering on the teams lining up in the tunnel, something happened that gave a fascinating portent of the upset to come.

We had just learnt that Alvaro Arbeloa, the Liverpool right-back, had tweaked a hamstring during the warm-up and would not be playing. Rafael Benítez had reconfigured his defence, moving Jamie Carragher from centre-back to fill Arbeloa's position and bringing in Sami Hyypia alongside Martin Skrtel. In the light of the lengthy preparations that would have gone into a fixture of this magnitude – not the match of the season, perhaps, but a very important one to both sides – this represented a serious adjustment.

What the roving camera in the Old Trafford tunnel showed was a little huddle at the rear of the Liverpool line. At the centre of a group of defenders Javier Mascherano was delivering an impassioned speech, complete with heated gesticulations. It was the sort of thing one might have expected to see from Steven Gerrard, the team captain, or from the vastly experienced Hyypia, his predecessor. Two hours later, however, Mascherano had given a display confirming my belief that he rivals Claude Makelele as the best exponent in modern British football of an art to which, even now, too little importance is attached.

Gerrard and Fernando Torres, who ran the United defence ragged and scored a goal apiece, won the battle of the headlines. But it was Mascherano who carved out the space and time in which they could play, as he had done the previous Tuesday night when Liverpool produced the second of their great performances of the season in routing Real Madrid. The first of those great performances came at Stamford Bridge in October, when Liverpool's midfield squeezed the life out of Chelsea and ended the west London club's run of 86 home league matches without defeat. The third came, of course, on Saturday – when, significantly, United took the field without an equivalent player. Mascherano's excellence was a thread running through all three games.

I first saw him in 2004, when he was 20 years old and winning an Olympic gold medal with an Argentina squad including Carlos Tevez and Gabriel Heinze. No one in Britain pays much attention to the Olympic football tournament, for the simple and patently inadequate reason that there are no British representatives. Other nations, however, take it extremely seriously, making it a good opportunity to see young talent on the way up. In Athens, Mascherano, who had made his senior debut for River Plate less than a year earlier, sat in front of the defence and controlled the traffic with a calmness and technical excellence reminiscent of Barcelona's Pep Guardiola.

Four years later in Beijing he was doing much the same thing, this time as an over-age player in a squad including Lionel Messi and Sergio Agüero. The impression was the same, and so was the result: another gold medal for a man who by this time had moved from River Plate to Corinthians in Brazil and thence to England, first to West Ham – where Alan Pardew saw fit to give him only seven appearances in half a season – before finding a home at Anfield.

Most people would probably claim that Torres is the best of Benítez's many expensive acquisitions, and the coltish striker is undoubtedly a wonderfully compelling performer who adds a sense of possibility to any match in which he takes part. But my choice would be Mascherano, a player who rose above a set of tangled transfer dealings and above the inability of his first English club to understand exactly what it is that he adds to a team. Benítez could see what Pardew failed to spot, and spent £18m on a player whose contribution is proving to be priceless.

In the absence of Xabi Alonso, his usual partner at the base of midfield, Mascherano's tackles, his interceptions and his distribution laid the solid foundation for Saturday's tumultuous victory. His competitiveness and his footballing intelligence were on full view as he fetched and harried with marvellous humility and unfailing relevance. Nobody writes poems about such players, but they should.

STREETFIGHTERS TURN TABLES ON FRONT-RUNNERS
The Guardian 14 March 2009

A recent review of Bruce Springsteen's latest album posited that The Boss is at his best when he has something to rail against, writes Paul Hayward.

Liverpool are a bit like that. The job of league leaders suits them less well than the role of street fighters attacking the more rich and powerful.

Defiance is a deep strain in the culture on Merseyside. The Kop is a monument to resistance, in name and spirit. The defining expression of Liverpool's talent for overturning hierarchies was the great comeback in Istanbul, when they were 3-0 down to AC Milan at half-time in the 2005 Champions League final but won the game on penalties. The phoenix, more than the Liver bird, is their ornithological symbol. Only when Manchester United had pulled seven points clear in the Premier League title race did Rafa Benítez's men find a performance from the gods.

Whatever the odds were on Liverpool scoring eight against Real Madrid and the world and European champions inside five days, no punter would have taken them. The form book would have whispered dark truths about the post-Christmas draws with Stoke and Wigan and the defeat at Middlesbrough four days after they had beaten Real inside the Bernabeu.

Both Liverpools should go away for the weekend and try to come back as one. If they could translate their stomping form in the biggest tests to routine assignments then the 19-year wait for a domestic league title might have ended long ago. Proving that being backed into a corner is their favourite, masochistic mode, they went one down to a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty before swarming all over their oldest enemies, who have suddenly lost their sheen.

Against Internazionale in midweek, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs took a managerial rocket for their profligacy with the ball. Surrendering possession is a felony here and United were guilty of it often enough against Italy's champions to suggest that a rampant run of victories was drawing to a close.

This 4-1 thumping confirms that impression. It brought United's biggest home defeat since New Year's Day, 1992, when they were hammered by QPR. In two games, the diamond-precision of their passing has fallen away, the effervescence has dropped. This is entirely routine in a 38-game league campaign. But with Chelsea resurgent under Guus Hiddink and Liverpool back in iconoclastic mood, United will aim to bury the memory of two unconvincing displays and return to the heights of their 4-0 demolition of Fulham in the FA Cup.

That chance is only days away, because they go back to Craven Cottage on Saturday, while Liverpool face a much tougher trial at home to Aston Villa. "When you lose a game, respond. That's what we'll do," Ferguson said.

Specifically, Scholes, Giggs, Patrice Evra, Ronaldo and Michael Carrick are becalmed. Confronting Liverpool activates the self-destruct button in Nemanja Vidic, who was sent off in the corresponding fixture at Anfield and who, this time, allowed a long ball to bounce over his shoulder for Fernando Torres to score before being dismissed again for pulling Steven Gerrard down.

To be fully effective, Liverpool need Fernando Torres to be sizzling, as he was yesterday, haunting Vidic and Rio Ferdinand with twisting, flowing runs. Liverpool's equaliser may have appeared routine, but it required Torres to finish from a challenging angle against the normally impregnable Edwin van der Sar.

"Eleven v eleven, we were men today. It's not very often you see Man Utd get beat 4-1 at home," reflected Gerrard. Liverpool have now beaten Chelsea and United home and away and destroyed Real Madrid. To incite them to rebellion is fatal. "European Capital of Trophies" announced one United banner: an obvious play on Liverpool's role last year as European Capital of Culture. The joke self-detonated.

All through this campaign the probability of United drawing level with Liverpool on 18 league title wins has rumbled backstage. The red half of Merseyside still hold the initiative in European Cups won (5-3), but the 18 league championships have assumed a mighty psychological weight in the face of United's relentless advance.

Ferguson denies that levelling the score has been "a target", but it must drift through his dreams. Ending Liverpool's hegemony was his first task before Arsenal and Chelsea were lined up for the Glasgow kiss.

To the neutral it felt as if a remorseless machine had been halted, if only for a few days, and that Liverpool have recovered their poise after a couple of months of creeping neurosis. The title race became a test of character again instead of a procession.

Arsenal's Arsene Wenger: Manchester United Still Favourites For Premier League
The French tactician admits the title race is far from concluded, but feels that the Red Devils' game in hand gives them a great advantage...

Manchester United had the chance to move seven points clear of Chelsea and ten ahead of Liverpool when they hosted the Reds at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Instead, Rafa Benitez's side gave the Red Devils an absolute mauling, running out 4-1 winners to close the gap at the top of the table to just four points.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has had his say on the weekend's events, and while he believes that either one of the top three clubs could yet win the Premier League this season, he feels the balance is still in United's favour.

"There are two things I'd like to say. Firstly, congratulations to Liverpool for winning with an emphatic score, but I think... it is a very flattering score," Wenger is quoted as saying in The Independent.

"For big spells in the game, Manchester United dominated but they made mistakes on the day that usually they don't do. Some players looked a bit mentally tired.

"It opens up the race for the title, even though I still believe Manchester United are in a strong position with the game in hand."
