Why dont they change the system to a Pay as you bid one? That way, you put $$$$$ where your mouth is.

Still based on the quota by counting from the highest to the lowest. You bid $100K you pay $100K and the last one if he bid $5000, he pays only $5000.

Thats a good idea.

Exactly my point. The profit is linked to number of cars sold, which is controlled by number of COEs. If demand is high, it will only be reflected in higher COE prices, but the number of cars sold remains under cap.

Luxury cars dealers will sell more, but lower end cars probably sell less. Total sales volume is still capped.

Sales personnel do not only sell new cars, but do trade ins, insurances, loans, car accessories etc and etc. Some of them also trade in secondhand cars.

never ballot something that is in high demand and low supply ..... and sell after 3 years ....

Might as well ballot 3G network frequency to anyone for $10. And can sell after 3 years, instant billionaire to those who win.

@$60k; guessed the worst hit are those running their small businesses that uses a Goods' vehicLe to transport & deLiver their wares/products to cLients..:(

A 10-year COE loan from UOB charges 4.5% interest per year. At $60K, it works out to a monthly installment of $725. You just have to pass on this cost to your customers one way or another by jacking up your prices, or you close shop.

Does anyone know where to get a cheaper loan?

It cross $100K before so with more rich tax dodging FT here, expect it to break record and breach the 150K -200K level.
It will be fuel by locals who hold on to buying for the past months or years and gave up hope on any correction, so they bite the bullet
and went in to buy, fearing the runaway price will never come down anytime soon, a friend actually did that and paid 1/4 million for a car last week, he waited for some time and regretted it because the price did not come down as he predict, so LL go buy in fear that COE will only go higher.
I last ask him did you know you just blew away 1/4 Million for a bloody car you don't technically own?

As long as Singapore economy is doing well, it will keep going up.

Cheers

thats not entirely true. as long as the government does not increase the quota, it will keep going up.

actually based on anecdotal observations, its the large number of goods vehicles that's contributing to heavy traffic. there seems to be more a lot more vans and lorries on the roads than before.

There are more of all vehicles.
Without the wealth, there wouldn't be COE this high.

The monies colllected from COEs will go into building more roads so we can have more COEs.

your friend thought he is buying gold bars or freehold land? Unless there is real economic use of the car that no substitute is feasible for him, this is a senseless decision.

My thoughts is that COE will continue to trend up, moving in tandem with property prices in Singapore. Such is the reality as it is very obvious, only the rich will be able to buys cars and pretty soon, the heartlanders will be suqeeze out.

Cost of living is going up the roof.

Now, that's a good idea. Maybe we could also write to the minister to use some of the monies collected to build some trendy hotels solely for bj only. Beds not required, chairs and carpeted floor will do. I am sure this will beat 81 and Fragrance hands down in rates and we name it Hotel 69.
This will also help to reduce the number of cars parking by the roadside and it definitely helps keep my car interior cleaner with your constant spills.
