apple can sell anything, right now they can do no wrong.

Apple Announces Over One Million iPhone 4S Pre-Orders in First 24 Hours

Apple has announced that they have received over one million iPhone 4S pre-orders on the first 24 hours.
“We are blown away with the incredible customer response to iPhone 4S,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “The first day pre-orders for iPhone 4S have been the most for any new product that Apple has ever launched and we are thrilled that customers love iPhone 4S as much as we do.”
That number tops the previous record for Apple held by the iPhone 4 which sold 600,000 units in pre-order on the first day. AT&T previously announced that they alone were responsible for 200,000 iPhone 4S pre-orders.

The iPhone 4S launches officially on October 14th when it will become available in retail stores. Pre-orders should arrive to customers at about the same time.

like i said previously, they will sell like hot cakes. the 4s is targeted at non-iphone users which number in the hundreds of millions, iphone 3 and 3s owners which number in the tens of millions, and iphone 4 owners who have money to spend, can afford to terminate 2-year contracts early and sheepishly eager to keep up with the latest from apple. these fanboys and fanchicks number in the millions. the iphone 5 which is undergoing prototype refinements and testing is aimed at iphone 4 users who still have 2-year contracts to honor and not willing to upgrade this year. for production runs, it has to wait for the new godchip from qualcomm which will offer smaller form factor, lower cost and lower power consumption. the production version of the chip is not available until sometime end of 1st quarter next year. for now, testing is done on a lame fat-ass power hog version of that prototype chip. as with apple, the outer shell has already been designed; the industrial artists call the shots. just that innards have to be squeezed and contorted to fit the outer shell. engineers are slaves and subjects of industrial design and art at apple.

iPhones are a waste of money. Those who buy them are the ones who can't make a statement on their own merits so they need a phone to do it for them. Apple is good for one thing and one thing alone... it's computer operating system.

You mean iOS or OSX? You tried Lion yet? Worth the $30 bucks?

that's because the windows alternative is a convoluted piece of garbage. anything else including linux based os is by far like paradise compared to microshit.

I haven't had a good experience with iOS on my iPod. I've lost stored passwords and stalled app downloads are a regular occurrence. I initially thought it was a flaky connection but that's been proven not to the case. The lack of integration between iOS and OS X is also a major issue. Bluetooth connections between my iPod and Mac book have been nothing but trouble. In fact, I can communicate more easily with a Blackberry than I can between two supposedly "integrated" Mac products.

The iPod has also had major problems communicating with my Airport Extreme at home. I have less trouble connecting to the Mcdonald's Wifi service.

I have positive comments only for Mac OS X.

Upgrade to Lion only if you don't have any programs that you depend upon that need Rosetta. Apple ditched Rosetta with the Lion upgrade. I'll never forgive Jobs for that.

Have you seen Windows 8? With Stevie gone to find his maker, parasite Microsoft is set to revive itself, feeding on the iOS host.

What Micrcosoft, Google and Samsung will do from now on is to put a "virus" into consumers mind that the Apple magician is gone.
Unlike the last time with Mac, the Apple founder & reinventer will not be back. It will be a Sony without Akio Morita. The magic is gone. No more wows.

Thanks to Steve, he has lay the foundation to the whole new world of mouse-less, the world at your fingertip devices. The mainstream players are joining the profit run, so sue me.

iSad.

They still have Johnny Ive leh. Plus, I'm sure there would be other people in it that makes it good, not just SJ.

That Brit designer is brillant. But Stevie is the magic that link buyers to Apple.

Anyway, I will be interested to see how Apple will perform without him. I brought shares in Apple only because of Steve Jobs.

Late Addition >>>> In case we forgot, Apple is a design and marketing company, not a technology company. (Words from an Apple snr exec, in 2010 )

In order to thrive, an organisation has to be gel together to the point that it becomes more than the sum of its parts. Steve Jobs was that gel.

Now that he's gone, it remains to be seen whether his successor can command the same respect and lead the team of brilliant individuals so that they are all inspired to give their best. All too often, the departure of charismatic leader can lead to anarchy as all the Jobs wannabies flex their muscles now that the boss has left the building.

That's what happened when he first got fired. Apple was in shambles. Nobody respected Scully because he knew nothing about computers and therefore had no way of calling the shots the way Steve could.

Jobs skill was not only in knowing what to approve but what to kill and what to delay because the world wasn't ready for it. EG the timing of the iPad was perfect. Any earlier and it wouldn't have worked. It takes someone special to make these sorts of calls. To be able to get those around you to acknowledge that you have the ability to get the timing right requires God like qualities.

My prediction is that the golden run is over. Apple will still make extremely competent products but the magic will fade.

german got the iphone 4s akready

first4s.jpg

The first iPhone 4S deliveries have already started arriving in customers' hands. Several German customers have received their new phones several days before the official launch. Macerkopf.de posts a several images of the new device from different readers.

We've already seen information leak out about the device as early units make its way into the hands of customers. General benchmarks have shown the new device to be about 68% faster than the iPhone 4 and with graphics benchmarks close to 7x as fast.

The iPhone 4S officially goes on sale on Friday, October 14th with pre-orders scheduled to be arriving on the same day. At this point, if you haven't pre-ordered a device, the only way to get the iPhone 4S on launch day will be to stand in line at a local retail store.

The early iPhone 4S reviews are in. Apple has provided some publications with an early review unit of the iPhone 4S and here are the reviews. We've extracted some of the more interesting points from each review, but you can click each title to read the full writeup.

TechCrunch Review

- "The iPhone 4S blows away the iPhone 4 when it comes to speed."
- "The true killer feature of the device is Siri."
- "The amount of times Siri hasn’t been able to understand and execute my request is astonishingly low. I’ll say something that I’m sure Siri won’t be able to understand, and it gets it."
- You need to be connected to internet for Siri to work.

ThisIsMyNext Review

- "[The iPhone 4S is] easily one of the most capable handsets on the market."
- "The 4S is more than capable of going through a full business day without needing a charge, and if you’re a lighter user, you’ll rarely have to worry about it."
- On Siri, "The software even has a good sense of humor. Asking it “what is the meaning of life?” will bring up a number of responses, both serious and not so serious. The first time I asked, Siri simply said “42.”

AllThingsD Review

- "My advice is that owners of the iPhone 4 needn’t rush to upgrade; they can get the new operating system. But owners of older iPhone models, or those with basic phones, will find this latest iPhone a pleasure and a good value."
- In Washington suburbs, was able to get nearly 7 megabits per second.
- AT&T Model still dropped calls.

NYTimes Review

- "This phone comes dangerously close to displacing a $200 point-and-shoot digital camera."
- "Apple says Siri will improve with time — both because she adapts to you, and because Apple itself will periodically upgrade her brain."

Wired Review

- "Before, with the standard iPhone calendar, I would often forget to add an event because I was too busy to type it, and as a result I would forget I had something scheduled altogether. With Siri and Apple’s new Reminders to-do list app, it’s unlikely I’ll forget anything important again because the process is so effortless.
- "From my experience, talking on an iPhone 4S on AT&T sounds noticeably clearer than it did on past iPhones I’ve owned"
- Several amusing examples of Siri responses including 'I'm Drunk' (Here's a list of cab companies)

LoopInsight Review

- An amusing exchange with Siri at the top of the review
- A 1080P sample video is included (edited with iMovie on a Mac)
- More praise for Siri: "Siri is not your typical voice recognition technology. You don’t dictate to Siri, you interact and have a conversation with Siri. It’s difficult to explain how good Siri is, but you’ll find out soon enough."

Stephen Fry's review for The Guardian

- "So good is the voice recognition that it is now built into all apps that use a keyboard. For the first time I've found that I can happily and accurately dictate texts and emails."
- "There is an option to enable Photostream, which keeps every picture you take for ever. Be warned. You cannot delete a picture once it is in Photostream. There may well be blushes within families who share devices and discover that a photo they would rather not be seen is permanently on view, but they'll have to learn the hard way."
- "Once again Apple is taking a lead and asking a lot of its competitors. I wish those competitors luck, for the better all smartphones are, the happier I am. If Steve Jobs's true legacy is that the devices every other company makes are so, so much better than they otherwise would have been, I don't think he would mind one bit."

even mightly steve jobs cannot get the apple employee to wear uniform

Steve Jobs was famous for his wardrobe of black mock turtlenecks and Levi's 501 jeans, but the story of what inspired him to adopt the basic but unique uniform has never really been revealed in detail.

Gawker now shares an excerpt from Walter Isaacson's upcoming biography of Jobs, revealing the history behind the wardrobe choice. According to Isaacson, the idea of a corporate uniform first came to Jobs on a visit to Sony's facilities in Japan, where he was struck by the way uniforms for employees helped create an identity bonding them to the company. Born out of necessity for Sony after World War II when the company's workers had few clothes of their own, Jobs briefly sought to bring the idea of corporate uniforms at Apple.

Sony, with its appreciation for style, had gotten the famous designer Issey Miyake to create its uniform. It was a jacket made of rip-stop nylon with sleeves that could unzip to make it a vest. So Jobs called Issey Miyake and asked him to design a vest for Apple, Jobs recalled, "I came back with some samples and told everyone it would great if we would all wear these vests. Oh man, did I get booed off the stage. Everybody hated the idea."
Despite being shot down by Apple employees, Jobs adopted the idea of a uniform for himself for the sake of convenience and identity, and drew on his friendship with Miyake to create his signature look.

"So I asked Issey to make me some of his black turtlenecks that I liked, and he made me like a hundred of them." Jobs noticed my surprise when he told this story, so he showed them stacked up in the closet. "That's what I wear," he said. "I have enough to last for the rest of my life."
It's not clear when Jobs related that story to Isaacson, but as Gawker notes, the closing quote comes with a whole new perspective following Jobs' death last week.

Since you have been making so many posts about iPhone 4S and Steve Jobs, which does not interest me much, perhaps you have inside info why despite Apple having a factory in Singapore, Steve Jobs had never step into Singapore? Was there any particular reason or was it just because he finds Singapore too boring?

Apple Singapore was at its height during the Scully era. By the time Steve rejoined Apple in 1996, Apple Singapore was already winding down operations and much of what it did in Singapore was being subcontracted to assembly houses. Scully visited Singapore in the early 90s. I was an Apple vendor at the time.

I was discussing it with a friend about Steve Jobs who was curious why Jobs never visited Singapore. I was curious too and thought that surely Philip Yeo and maybe several other top leaders would have invited him to visit and perhaps grace an occasion.
