When the majority of the public has already perceived that he is guilty (and reading from the Net even the WP supporters also think that it is true and defend that it is his private matter instead of the rumour authenticitiy), being silent is suicidal....

If the rumour is false, he must strongly deny it. Failing to do so, he'll be forever perceived as adulterer in the mind of the public and his party as consenting such behaviour.

If the rumour is true, he must strongly admit it, apologise and beg for forgiveness, and then move on....If he can do a great job serving the people, people will forgive and forget.....But if he refuses to admit, he'll be perceived as a coward plus adulterer.
