We're preparing to meet Spain in final, says Italy keeper Buffon

Gianluigi Buffon believes Italy are good enough to beat England on Sunday night and be crowned champions - but says they might need to study law to do it! The Italians arrived with a match-fixing and betting scandal in full swing back home.
Confident: Gianluigi Buffon thinks Italy will go through
Police even turned up at their training base in Italy demanding to speak to players in the build-up to the tournament, and Domenico Criscito was dropped from the squad as a result.
A total of 19 players from all levels of the game have been arrested.Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti and team manager Cesare Prandelli even offered to pull Italy out of the tournament to save face, but legendary keeper Buffon is now aiming to win it… providing the lawyers don't get involved, that is.'We want to win the trophy,' he said. 'But maybe we need to start practising criminal law!
'This is where it starts. We are with the best eight teams in Europe and we know playing England won't be easy but we are ready.'We are confident because of what we have already done here. Group C was the strongest. I have a feeling that both ourselves and Spain are going to go a long way here; I wouldn't be surprised if we met again in the final.'
Furious Fabio denies he is spying for Italy ahead of clash with England
By MARK RYAN PUBLISHED: 21:30 GMT, 23 June 2012 | UPDATED: 21:30 GMT, 23 June 2012
Fabio Capello has gone ‘crazy’ at suggestions he has been helping Italy prepare for Sunday’s showdown against England. Capello’s son, Pierfilippo, said the Italian former England manager is torn over which country to support.Just before Capello reached Miami for Saturday’s charity match with Leo Messi, he was told of reports claiming he might betray England after four years coaching the country.
Denial: Fabio Capello (right) refuted suggestions he was spying for Italy
‘Who the **** is writing this ****?’ Capello demanded to know. ‘I will sue them.’Pierfilippo said: ‘Fabio went crazy when I spoke to him about this. We will start legal action against anyone who has suggested he has been helping Italy’s coach in any way. They haven’t even spoken for a year.‘It is an insult to Fabio to suggest he would reveal anything after four years working for the FA.‘He still has many close relationships with people at the FA. He wouldn’t do it, he values what he had with the England players too much.’
In charge: Cesare Prandelli will lead his side against England on Sunday
So has Capello been working for England against his native country? ‘No,’ said his son, who acts as his father’s agent and part of his legal team.
'Fabio doesn’t know the Italy players any better than Roy Hodgson does. He hasn’t been helping either camp, though he very much wants to watch the game.‘I genuinely think his loyalties are divided. He is a proud Italian and played for his country, yet he wouldn’t be able to support Italy against England without having some trouble in his heart about it. I will support Italy but I think my father is 50-50.’Capello led England to Euro 2012 qualification in the first place.
The trainer was furious about the premature unveiling of his first XI - a longstanding problem - suggesting that the representative of one of his men is leaking information

Germany may have advanced to the Euro 2012 semi-finals following a comprehensive 4-2 win against Greece on Friday, but not all was rosy in the Mannschaft camp.
Hours before the game, Joachim Low's exact starting line-up was published by German newspaper Bild, and quickly spread through various media and social networking sites. And following the match, the head coach was not amused, claiming a mole within his camp was responsible.
"I cannot explain how the list was leaked. Maybe a player spoke with his agent," Low said to German TV station ARD.

Low's frustration about the line-up being leaked is certainly understandable, but many were speculating about such changes as early as the group stage. A host of notable pundits and commentators made similar suggestions days before so it was not entirely surprising when it was revealed. That said, Germany pride themselves on the harmony in their training camp which, if these allegations are true, was certainly compromised.

Low made four changes to his previous XI for the Greece match, with Miroslav Klose, Marco Reus, and Andre Schurrle starting in three of the four attacking positions. And Low lamented the fact that his team could not take the Greeks by surprise with their new-look attacking line-up.
"It's not nice when [the line-up] is released, because we want to be unpredictable," he explained.
Speaking to Goalcom at a press conference on Saturday, Andre Schurrle revealed the Bundestrainer's frustration:
"Yes, he definitely raised the issue, and was anything but amused.
"It was very unfortunate that at a very early stage - 2:00, 2:30 - everyone knew what the starting line-up would be.
"I can't imagine anyone in the team doing such a thing," he added.
This is not the first time that the Bundestrainer has had his plans unveiled ahead of schedule. Before Germany's group stage opener against Portugal, German newspaper Express revealed that Mario Gomez would start ahead of Klose in attack.
Additionally, last November, the trainer had a similar problem when Schurrle tweeted that he would miss a friendly against Netherlands due to a bout of flu.
In the end, the Ethniki could not use their information to any great advantage on Friday, and the Nationalelf advanced almost effortlessly to the semi-finals.
However, with every match becoming increasingly difficult, the trainer will be keen to eradicate this issue.
Only the nasty statistic survives. Only that and the nagging sense of disappointment that follows whenever England lose in this manner to opposition of the quality of Italy. Going out on penalties is always painful and for Ashley Young and Ashley Cole, the two England players who missed on this occasion, the European Championship ends in crushing circumstances. It also once again highlights the mental fragility of English players when it comes to the cruel lottery of spot-kicks.But if Roy Hodgson ever believed his players were about to erase that record he spoke of and become the first England team to beat a major footballing nation on foreign soil in the knockout stages of a tournament, he would have done so knowing it would not have been deserved.
Eyes on the ball: England desperately defend a corner in the goalless first half
Subs Not Used: Sirigu, Chiellini, Ogbonna, Thiago Motta, Di Natale, Giaccherini, Borini, Giovinco, De Sanctis.
Booked: Barzagli, Maggio.
Italy win 4-2 on penalties
Attendance: 56,500
Referee: Pedro Proenca (Portugal).
The statistics that emerged at the sound of the final whistle concerning Italy’s superiority illustrated as much. The fact that Cesare Prandelli’s team struck the post twice and had a goal disallowed for offside. The fact that England’s players spent much of the night chasing the peerless Andrea Pirlo in vain. Pirlo (below) was magnificent, crowning one of the finest individual displays we have seen here in eastern Europe with a chipped penalty that was simply sublime.
Joe Hart stuck his tongue out in a desperate attempt to put him off and Pirlo punished England’s goalkeeper for his impertinence. The man has nerves of steel as well as the touch of an angel. To the list of England’s failures Hodgson has to add another one. In particular to the five penalty defeats by Portugal, Argentina and Germany. But for England’s new manager there is more. There is a deeper understanding of the job he has; the task he faces; the fact that there remains much work to do before England can win a game like this.
Hodgson will also focus on the positives of the last few weeks and rightly so. He will remind himself how low the expectations were amid the chaos of his last-minute appointment just 56 days ago — 43 if you discount the 13 he spent as West Bromwich Albion manager.
Advantage England: Montolivo hangs his head after missing his penalty
Double whammy: Ashleys Young and Cole both missed for England
Hammer blow: Ex-West Ham midfielder Diamanti buries his penalty to send his team-mates wild
He should reflect with some pride on the three performances that enabled England to win a group that included France. On the way he galvanised this England squad and delivered a team that fought for one another. Cole had called them ‘11 bulldogs’ who were prepared to die for the cause and their success in taking this quarter-final to the death was proof of that.
Line-up: The England and Italy teams pose for their photos before kick-off
From John Terry and Joleon Lescott, from Hart and Glen Johnson, too, came some heroic performances here at the Olympic Stadium. For 15 or 20 minutes of the first half England also played their best football of the tournament. Their best football in years, in actual fact.
Pals: Mario Balotelli and Joe hart greet each other before the match gets underway
But that spell lasted as long as it took Italy to regain control, and in particular for Pirlo to dictate the tempo with his exceptional vision and passing.
Almost: England's goalkeeper Hart was beaten by this early effort from Daniele De Rossi...
If Hodgson was pleased with the first half, the last 75 minutes must have felt like a lifetime. As it was it spanned two days, this game ending well after midnight.
Chance: Glen Johnson had this opportunity to fire England ahead from close range
For Steven Gerrard and Scott Parker, it was exhausting. Chasing, chasing, chasing. Although nobody chased more than Wayne Rooney in that opening 45 minutes. He ran almost a kilometre more than any other England player, most of the ground he covered in pursuit of Pirlo. That said, Rooney was again short of his best. He looked unfit and was again unable to impose himself on the contest.
Brave: Wayne Rooney gets his head in front of Ignazio Abate's boot for another chance
Hodgson tried to relieve the pressure by sending on Andy Carroll and Theo Walcott, but to no avail. With Parker’s lungs and legs unable to give any more, he also ended up sending on Jordan Henderson.
Miss: Buffon screams at his defence after seeing Rooney go close with his effort
How difficult it was going to be became alarmingly apparent after an opening two minutes and 55 seconds that Italy completely dominated. A case of pass, pass, pass before Daniele De Rossi unleashed a swerving shot that bounced off Hart’s right-hand post.
Famous face: Roman Abramovich was among the crowd watching the match in Kiev
All smiles: FA chairman David Bernstein sat next to UEFA president Michel Platini for the game
But such was England’s confidence at this stage, they responded well, with Johnson ending a move that he had started, a move that continued with Young and James Milner, with a close-range shot that forced a quite brilliant save from Gianluigi Buffon.
Battle: Italy defender Leonardo Bonucci wins the header against Danny Welbeck
For a while after that, it was England who dominated, and there were chances for both Rooney and Welbeck, too. It was absorbing stuff — fast, exciting, end to end.
The sight of Italy pumping balls towards Mario Balotelli must have encouraged Hodgson. Until, that is, they started to find their range and Terry and Lescott had to make some first-class challenges to stop the Manchester City striker from scoring.
Direction: Italy coach Cesare Prandelli gestures as Steven Gerrard holds on to the ball
Italy finished the half in the ascendancy and their confidence grew after the break. There were a couple of England attacks and a bicycle kick Rooney sent over the crossbar in second-half stoppage time. But it was a torturous 45 minutes for Hodgson and torturous for his players, too, such was the superiority of Prandelli’s side.
Pace: Ashley Young tries to outsprint Abate at the Olympic Stadium
England were lucky not to concede when Hart spilled a powerful shot from De Rossi. The England goalkeeper then did well to block the follow-up effort from Balotelli, but with the goal at his mercy the otherwise impressive Riccardo Montolivo sent his shot over the crossbar.
Clear: Balotelli fires a volley at goal after finding space inside the penalty box
It was to the considerable credit of England’s defenders that this game went to extra time. Again Italy went closest to scoring in that period, with Alessandro Diamanti swinging in a cross that bounced off a post.
Spurned: Balotelli had power but sent his effort straight into the arms of Hart
When it came to penalties, however, England had no such luck. They were prepared. As well as the practice they did in training, there was the sight of Dave Watson, the goalkeeping coach, producing an iPad with key information for Hart.
Surely? Balotelli just failed to reach this set-up from Antonio Cassano as England cleared
But Hart made not one save. Montolivo sent his wide, Young hit the crossbar and Cole — normally so good from 12 yards — made it all too easy for Buffon to make the decisive save. Game over. Adventure over.
Relief: Hart knows that is a golden opportunity for Balotelli to break the deadlock
Anger management: Balotelli kicks the post after he failed to score
Nervous night: England boss Roy Hodgson watches his side from the sidelines

Worth a try! Cheeky England fan used his last-ditch tackle to put off Diamanti in penalty shootout defeat to Italy

England players had practiced, Joe Hart had researched the history of those expected to take penalties for Italy, and the rest of the nation watched and hoped for the bit of luck that's needed i these situations.
And then a fan went one step further in his bid to give England the edge in their shootout with the Azzurri, dropping his pants in a desperate attempt to put off Alessandro Diamanti as he stepped up to convert the decisive spot kick.

The supporter stood with his trousers down and arms crossed in an attempt to catch the eye of the former West Ham man at the crucial moment.Alas, it did not work, and Diamanti gave Italy a 4-2 win in the Olympic Stadium, Kiev, sending them through to the semi-finals of Euro 2012.
The cheeky fan, whose identity is not known, was wearing a bright green England goalkeeper's kit and a red and white wig. The supporter next to him appeared to also be dropping his trousers.
Rude: The England fan reveals his belly - and a bit more - during the shootout last night
On Monday the England team flew home after their dramatic defeat. David Cameron said the players had made 'the country proud' with their performances at the tournament. The Prime Minister said he watched the game but joked that as it wore on there was a feeling that it would probably end on penalties.Ashley Young and Ashley Cole missed the crucial spotkicks as England bowed out of the competition. Italy will play Germany in the semi-finals.
Mr Cameron said Roy Hodgson’s men had put on a 'great display' by going through the group stages. He said: 'I watched the match and I thought England showed a lot of heart, and a lot of spirit and a lot of dogged determination, as you’d expect.'There were some brilliant individual performances and a real team effort but sadly, as has happened before, you sort of felt as you were watching that it will probably end on penalties and you knew how penalties may probably end.'

Mr Cameron said he was not convinced by Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon’s claim that he prepared for the game by watching movies instead of studying England’s penalty-takers.'I think he was concentrating a bit harder than that,' he said. 'But I would like to congratulate the team and the manager and all who worked so hard with them and for them to put on a great display.
They made the country proud to go through the group stage in the way that they did.'England captain Steven Gerrard last night vowed to lead the country to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil after the penalty shootout heartbreak.'We have given a good account of ourselves,' he said. 'We haven't blown people away but we stuck together, fought hard and gave every inch of effort.
'However, at times we have found it difficult to keep the ball. The possession stats speak for themselves. It tells you that moving forward as a nation, we do need to try and improve with the ball.'

Uefa are acting like “pimps” on the issue of prostitution in Ukraine during Euro 2012, according to one of the country’s leading feminist organisations.
Prostitution is illegal in Ukraine, but government estimates suggest some 12,000 women are involved in the sex industry, while unofficial sources claim the true figure is much higher.
In an exclusive interview with Goalcom, Inna Shevchenko, spokeswoman for Femen, claims Uefa is well aware of the problem but has shown no desire to help tackle it.
"The reason I am against Uefa is because they are just here to make money"

“The reason I am against Uefa is because they are just here to make money,” she said.
“That's all they care about wherever they go. And it's very easy to make money with the sex industry here in Ukraine.
“Women don't have alternatives to earn a living here. Pimps recruit them in the streets, in their universities, in clubs, everywhere.
“Young girls here are recruited for the sex industry. This is a country of prostitutes.”
Indeed, rather than helping the Ukrainian government clamp down on the sex industry, Ms Shevchenko argues Uefa have actively sought to encourage prostitution.
“I believe they have worked with our government to stimulate it,” she added.
“These kinds of tournaments attract sex guests all the time. For example, in Germany prostitution was legalised before the World Cup in 2006.
“It generates revenue and that is what interests the big bosses of football and government. Just look around our country right now in the Euros.
“There are adverts for sex clubs as soon as you land at the airport. There are more ‘Men's Clubs’ than pharmacies or restaurants.”
Ms Shevchenko insists her organisation have been urging Uefa to take action on the issue of prostitution for over three years, but without success.
"We have police officers outside our office 24 hours a day, checking out on what we do, who we see, what we are planning"

“We called them, we wrote to them, we wanted to work together for Euro 2012,” she continued.
“They have great social initiatives, like the one against racism. However, they never answered back.
“So we resorted to our usual tactic to make the world aware and attract attention of the mass media. It was a cry for help.
“But Uefa didn't bother at all so we understood that they are the real pimps. Michel Platini is the main pimp.”
Femen often use unorthodox tactics to publicise their cause. They often protest topless, and made an attempt to steal the Euro 2012 trophy prior to the tournament.
To minimise the risk of Femen staging another high-profile protest during the competition, Ms Shevchenko claims members of her group have been subjected to arrests, violence and constant surveillance from the local police.
“We have police officers outside our office 24 hours a day, checking out on what we do, who we see, what we are planning,” she says.
“They have a big list with the pictures, passport numbers and names of all our activists with the name "How to stop Femen in Euro 2012" We know this because they told us!”

France consider banning Nasri for two years as they get tough with angry midfielder
By DOMINIC KING PUBLISHED: 08:44 GMT, 26 June 2012 | UPDATED: 21:04 GMT, 26 June 2012
Samir Nasri could be hit with a two-year international ban for his astonishing behaviour following France’s elimination from Euro 2012.
The Manchester City midfielder was involved in a foul-mouthed confrontation with French reporters following his country’s 2-0 defeat by Spain in Donetsk and the French Football Federation are now considering making an example of him.
If they were to take such stringent action, Nasri – who told one reporter to “f*** off” and invited him outside to continue the argument – would be precluded from the 2014 World Cup qualifiers and, potentially, the finals in Brazil.
Case to answer: Midfielder Samir Nasri is in trouble with French football bosses
Nasri may discover his fate as early as next Tuesday when the FFF executive meets to decide what action to take against him, Newcastle midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa, Yann M’Villa of Rennes and Paris St Germain’s Jeremy Menez for various breaches of discipline.
Should Nasri be banned for two years, it would be the most severe punishment ever bestowed to a French player and, significantly, a poll on the website of influential French newspaper L’Equipe revealed that 56 per cent wanted the 25-year-old removed from the national team.
Once again another major tournament has ended in rancour for France and Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has admitted that his former club-mate Nasri is too impetuous and needs to learn to control his temper.
Over and out: Nasri launched a foul-mouthed rant at a reporter
‘This is a sensitive issue and I was not there but I know when something does not please Samir he speaks his mind,’ said Sagna, who missed Euro 2012 after breaking his leg against Norwich in May.‘He can have a violent reaction but you have to share your responsibilities. When someone attacks the press it will not go away.
‘With the excitement of the game and everything that was written about him it was perhaps not the right time to respond. He should have kept his cool but it weighed on him. The Euros had not even started and the press had already criticised him. Everyone is human.’
No way through: Nasri saw his side crash out at the quarter final stage
Former France coach Raymond Domenech, who was in charge of the squad that mutinied at the 2010 World Cup, was scathing in his criticism and claimed the current generation lacks leadership.
‘A major tournament reveals the strength of a group,’ said Domenech. ‘The most glaring (weakness is) their inability to see anything other than their navel. Nasri has been the visible symbol.’
Balotelli fury at King Kong cartoon slur in Italian newspaper
By MATT LAWTON PUBLISHED: 21:30 GMT, 26 June 2012 | UPDATED: 23:15 GMT, 26 June 2012
Unfunny: Mario Balotelli was personified as King Kong in the offensive Gazzetta cartoon
Mario Balotelli has found himself at the centre of a new race row, this time sparked by a deeply offensive cartoon depicting him as King Kong in a leading Italian newspaper.
On the morning of Italy’s European Championship encounter with England, Gazzetta dello Sport published a drawing of a giant Balotelli atop Big Ben swatting away footballs in the same way King Kong did aircrafts atop New York’s Empire State Building in the film. The Balotelli camp was understood to be outraged by the cartoon and Gazzetta have issued an apology.
‘It wasn’t our cartoonist’s best product. In these times we need a bit more moderation, caution and good taste. But we have always fought against racism and condemned booing against Balotelli as unacceptable,’ said the Milan-based newspaper. A spokesman for the anti-racism organisation Kick It Out said: ‘Mario is such an important person in Italian football.
'Aspiring players in Italy who want to follow in his footsteps could wonder what support they will have when they get to his level when they see cartoons like that. ‘It is not the first time we have seen this sort of depiction of Mario and we think the media have a responsibility. How do they think they can portray him like that?’
Journalists in Italy were horrified. Luigi Garlando said: ‘It is an unfortunate cartoon. It is hard to defend the right of satire against censorship in this case and I would never have allowed it in my newspaper.’
Time to focus: Balotelli and Italy will take on Germany in the Euro 2012 semi-final
Balotelli, now preparing for Thursday’s semi-final against Germany in Warsaw, said before Euro 2012 that he would walk off the pitch if he was racially abused. On Tuesday UEFA also opened disciplinary proceedings against the Spanish football federation and the Russian football union for alleged racist behaviour and chanting by fans.
European football’s governing body fined the Croatian football federation €30,000 after supporters threw fireworks and displayed ‘inappropriate and racist banners’ during a match against Spain. It was Croatia’s second racism-related sanction of the tournament. In Krakow the focus for the Italians remained on trying to do to Germany what they did to England on Sunday night in Kiev.
Andrea Pirlo, the architect of England’s destruction, appeared before the media and had few words of encouragement for Roy Hodgson’s beaten quarter-finalists.
Charged: Meanwhile, UEFA have opened disciplinary proceedings against Spanish Russian FA's over the behaviour of their fans
‘Our approach to the game against Germany will be the same as against England,’ he said. ‘This is because it is the only way we can play. We have to take advantage of our quality, our technique. But, unlike England, Germany can create many threats to our defence.
‘England played a very prudent and careful way. They were sitting back all match, like Chelsea did in the Champions League final. They tried to keep that same shape. For them, going to the penalty shootout was already a good result.’ Pirlo said his stunning chip penalty was a key moment in the game because it was a huge psychological blow to England.
‘I didn’t celebrate the penalty because at that point there was nothing to celebrate,’ he said. ‘But it was really relevant to the match and our win. This changed the course of the match. 'For me, Joe Hart seemed to be very confident in himself and it seemed to be a psychological blow. I needed to do something to beat him. Penalties are a very personal thing.
‘When you have to shoot a penalty you have to be confident in yourself.’
Roo only play for Fergie! Capello takes swipe at England flop Wayne
By MATT LAWTON PUBLISHED: 21:59 GMT, 26 June 2012 | UPDATED: 21:59 GMT, 26 June 2012
Fabio Capello has delivered a withering assessment of Wayne Rooney’s England career, claiming 'he only plays well in Manchester'.
Last week the former England manager publicly clashed with his one-time star player, responding angrily to Rooney’s claim that life is better under Roy Hodgson because he can at least speak English. Capello said Rooney did not understand English.
Slippery slope: Wayne Rooney once again failed to perform to his usual level while on international duty, and has been criticised by Fabio Capello
Watching on: Fabio Capello took in plenty of Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine
Rooney was disappointing for Capello at the last World Cup in South Africa and the Italian watched the Manchester United striker under-perform again in his two matches at Euro 2012.
Talking to the Italian news agency ANSA, Capello said: ‘After seeing the latest game, I think Rooney only understands Scottish. That’s because he only plays well in Manchester, where Sir Alex Ferguson speaks Scottish.'
Hodgson acknowledged on Monday that Rooney was poor in the two games he played for England in this tournament, against Ukraine and Italy.
The fact that the United striker so impresses for his club but then disappoints for his country is a problem the England manager needs to address. Rooney has not enjoyed a good tournament since his first, in Portugal in 2004.
Capello was clearly offended when Rooney suggested the Italian’s lack of English was a problem for the players. Rooney said: ‘I think it helps everyone being English. There are no words lost in translation and we understand what the manager wants from us.’
You what? Rooney has recently claimed that instructions are much easier to understand under the new management team and Roy Hodgson
Capello failed to master the language despite four years of regular lessons.
But in an interview with Italian radio last week he said: ‘Look, when I spoke they did understand me.
‘But every now and then, when I tried to explain tactics, things didn’t work out. You know what? Maybe it’s because Rooney doesn’t speak English. He doesn’t understand English.’
My happy place: Capello claims Rooney only performs in Manchester
Schweinsteiger declared fit to face Italy as Low reveals Germany will not man-mark Pirlo
By SPORTSMAIL REPORTER PUBLISHED: 17:36 GMT, 26 June 2012 | UPDATED: 17:37 GMT, 26 June 2012
Germany coach Joachim Low has revealed Bastian Schweinsteiger is fully fit and ready to start Thursday's Euro 2012 semi-final against Italy.
The midfielder has been struggling with an ankle problem and Low admitted he was 'poor' in the 4-2 quarter-final victory over Greece.
But the Bayern Munich player was able to play a full part in training and is set to retain his place.
'Schweinsteiger had problems, but it's not as if these were hindering him,' Low said.
At full stretch: Bastian Schweinsteiger warms up during a German training session
'Against Greece he was poor, but he realises that himself. Against Italy that won't happen.
'There are only 100 per cent fit players. No player will run out if he is only operating at 80 or 90 per cent capacity. All players are fit, I assume Schweinsteiger will play.'
Germany, the favourites along with Spain to win the European Championship, are the only team to have won every game in the competition so far, but produced an error-strewn performance against the Greeks.
Off the pace: Schweinsteiger was not at his fluent bast against the Greeks
Italy scraped past England on penalties to reach the last four, although they were the better side over the 120 minutes, with midfielder Andrea Pirlo especially impressive.
But Low claimed he would not be asking anyone to man-mark the Juventus player.
'That would make no sense,' he said.
Dangerman: The deep-lying Andrea Pirlo ran the show against England
Low admitted, though, the team his side will face are a very different outfit from the one which failed to make it out of the group at the last World Cup.
'The Italians have a very different team from 2010 and excellent progress behind them,' he added.'They have good strengths, a lot of quality. But we also know where their weaknesses lie, where they have their problems.
'We have to bring our own game, not focus so much on the opponents. If we manage to do that, then we have a good chance.' Perhaps Low's biggest selection dilemma is over which of Mario Gomez or Miroslav Klose to play up front.
Gomez is the joint top-scorer in the tournament with three goals, but it was Klose who got the nod against Greece and pressed his claims to keep his place with a goal.
Staking a claim: Miroslav Klose is confident he will start against Italy
'I am assuming that I will play,' the experienced Klose said. 'That's what I am preparing for in any case. But we are lucky to have two top strikers. We'll wait and see which one the coach will pick.'
Klose plays his club football in Italy with Lazio, having joined the Rome club last summer, but he has not given Low any inside information.
'I don't need to give the coach any tips. Our scouts have watched Italy many times, the coach knows what to do.'
