Former Italy international Gianluca Pagliuca has stated that Gianluigi Buffon and Iker Casillashave been the best goalkeepers in the world for the last 10 years.
The experienced duo will go head-to-head on Sunday as Spain face the Azzurri in the final of Euro 2012 in Kiev, and the retired shot-stopper feels it will be a top-quality clash.
"They are the two goalkeepers that have dominated the international scene for years," he told Goalcom Italy.
"If the Azzurri win, Gigi [Buffon] will equal the titles won by Casillas; a World Cup and the European Championship.
"Although they have different characteristics, they are undoubtedly the two best goalkeepers of the past 10 years.
"Buffon is taller and has a great sense of position, while Casillas is more responsive, but in the end they will undoubtedly be counted among the greatest goalkeepers in the history of football."
The 45-year-old went on to state that he feels Spain would have rather faced Germany at the final hurdle and that Cesare Prandelli's men will win the competition.
"Spain, despite being the favourites on paper, we should not fear. In my opinion the Spaniards would have preferred to meet Germany in the final, who would have been a much easier opponent," he added.
"For me the Azzurri have a good chance of winning. The Furia Roja have a really strong team, but watch out for Italy; the enthusiasm of the team can make a difference."

The Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine,Borys Kolesnikov, has reacted with fury to accusations that his government embezzled $4 billion (€3.15bn) of Euro 2012 funding, and insists he will take YuliaTymoshenko's former regime to court to prove they were guilty of corruption after winning the bid to host the tournament.
Ostap Semerak, a member of the shadow cabinet, told Goalcom that up to 40 per cent of the tournament budget has disappeared and claimed that under Kolesnikov, the man with responsibility for Euro 2012, contracts have been awarded without a tender process to companies that have been accomplices in embezzlement.
He added that he has proof of corruption within the current regime and will be pressing ahead with court action once the tournament has finished.
Semerak cited the Lviv stadium, which cost around $330m (€260m) to construct, alleging he saw the same amount given in kick-backs to government ministers. Kiev's Olympic Stadium was offered as another example where corruption has taken place, costing the public purse between $500m-$550m (€395-€435m) – twice as much as the Donbass Arena in Donetsk, which was privately funded.
“The current government has used Euro 2012 and the preparation for it as a good opportunity to get money from the public purse,” he said.
“Each citizen of Ukraine has had the equivalent of £200 taken from his pocket. This is one of the biggest corruption scandals in the last 20 years."
But when asked by Goal.com to respond to those allegations Kolesnikov insisted on a personal interview and is adamant that he can account for every penny of the budget – inviting European Union investigators to delve into the accounts to prove his case.
The 49-year-old says he has proof that Tymoshenko's government were themselves guilty of corruption between the announcement in April 2007 that Ukraine and Poland would host the tournament, and her defeat in the Presidential elections of February 2010.
Kolesnikov also disputes Semerak's claim that the tournament cost $10bn to fund, stating the figure is only half of that.
“Can I account for every penny spent on this tournament? Absolutely,” said Kolesnikov. “We will ask in court for the opposition to confirm or deny the facts - the fact of [their] corruption.
“They don't have facts [that his regime have been involved in corruption] because it is impossible. We will see them in court. They have no chance as all our papers are ready.

“I would welcome the EU becoming involved as we are completely sure in our righteousness. We are ready for every kind of situation. Basically, if you want to speak about corruption it is best that you speak to the members of Yulia Tymoshenko's regime."
Kolesnikov has also promised that he will ask prosecutors to investigate Tymoshenko – who is currently serving a seven-year prison term after being found guilty for abusing her powers while in office, a sentence that has brought international condemnation – and other members of her former government immediately after Sunday's final in Kiev.
He continued: “The regime of Tymoshenko has kicked the tournament three times. Firstly, when they failed in their preparation; secondly, when they asked the world to boycott the tournament in Ukraine; and thirdly with what they are doing now [with these accusations] when they understand the tournament is going successfully. They are trying every kind of way to punish our country.
“But in any case we don't want to start any kind of judicial process during the tournament. Everybody who is speaking about corruption – well, the courts will be waiting for them, immediately after July 1.”
With Kolesnikov promising legal action, it appears certain that Semerak and other members of the Tymoshenko government will have to defend themselves in court, although if there is a change in government in October then it may be the current ruling party who come under fire.

Spain coach Vicente del Bosque has indicated that he will deploy three forwards from the start of Sunday's Euro 2012 final against Italy.
The 61-year-old has shown variety in his selections during the tournament, utilising Cesc Fabregas as a 'False 9' on several occasions and also opting for Alvaro Negredo and Fernando Torres as more traditional centre forwards.
And, though the Barcelona midfielder made the starting XI for the group match against Italy, Del Bosque has now given a strong indication that the 25-year-old may start the final on the bench.
"We will play with three strikers, but all the team have to help them," he told reporters at a press conference.
"These three players will have the obligation to attack and to try to score a goal. We have more obligation to attack than to defend."
Italy are known for their defensive approach to football, but Del Bosque does not expect Cesare Prandelli's side to play 'Catenaccio' on Sunday.
"This next game is the most important one, we will play for something we have been working on for two years," the Spanish coach explained. "We would all like to secure a victory.
"Italy have been on the rise and they deserve to be in the final.
"We cannot say that Italy played defensive football against us in the group game because they did not. They have made progress in recent years." Spain enter Sunday's final as favourites after winning Euro 2008 and the 2010 World Cup, but the Spaniard insists the game will be a close contest.
"I think we cannot look at the past," the former Real Madrid boss added. "Italy have won the World Cup four times, and we are talking about the present, which is the only reference.
"We were in the same group, we have both won matches on penalities and our playing style has been similar. That is why I do not think there will be a big difference.
"If our players have lost the desire to win? We haven't noticed symptoms of that happening.
"Success can weaken the future, but we have a group of players that know what this sport is and we have not lost our competitive spirit."
Del Bosque withdrew midfield lynchpin Xavi during his side's draw with Portugal in the semi-final but has defended the Barcelona playmaker following criticism of his performance.
"It is very rare for Xavi to have a bad game," Del Bosque noted. "He contributes with his talent, his quality, he does a lot of team work and he dictates our style of play."

Thomas Doll and Thomas Helmer have joined the growing chorus of pundits to criticise Germany coach Joachim Low and attacker Lukas Podolski.
The new Arsenal signing has taken heat in recent days for his performance at Euro 2012, which saw him score just one goal and fail to provide a single assist in Germany's run to the semi-finals.
And after Podolski was benched for the last eight tie against Greece, Doll felt that his re-introduction in the next round against Italy was unnecessary.
"In such a semi-final, only the best must play," he told Sport1, asserting that Podolski was not worthy of his starting berth.
Helmer as well was baffled with Low's selection of the forward, who for a third time failed to score as Italy knocked out Germany with a 2-1 win.
"Podolski sits out the game against Greece, then comes in [against Italy] and plays just as he did before. I absolutely do not understand this," the 68-cap Germany defender said.

The son of Spain coach Vicente del Bosque has admitted that his father is not at ease heading into Sunday's Euro 2012 final against Italy.
Speaking to AS, Alvaro del Bosque was confident that La Roja will be able to claim a third consecutive tournament crown, but revealed that the trainer is feeling anxious going into the clash.
"He is a little bit nervous, but doing well," Alvaro said of his father.
The younger Del Bosque went on to predict that Spain would record a comprehensive 2-0 win, with goals from Cesc Fabregas and Fernando Torres.
Alvaro's mother, Trinidad Lopez, also conceded that her husband was nervous, and preferred not to make a prediction. However, she said the team are a close group, which could see them through.
"He is a little nervous, of course, but he seems calm to me. He's fine. The main thing is to win and go home happy with the cup," she told reporters in Ukraine.
"I've always noticed [a special bond], but I think for this game, it's a little stronger."

Marcello Lippi has given his thoughts on Sunday’s Euro 2012 final between Italy and Spain, albeit in a mathematically impossible fashion.
The coach who led the Azzurri to World Cup glory in 2006, believes Italy to have a 50% chance of winning, yet still views Spain as the favourites to lift the Henri Delauney trophy in Kiev tonight.
In an interview with La Repubblica, Lippi said: “Many people have asked me if Spain are still considered the favourites despite the fact we drew 1-1 in the group phase.
“I must reply with a paradox: Italy have a 50 per cent chance of winning, yet Spain are still the favourites."
The 64 year old has been impressed with Cesare Prandelli’s side throughout the tournament and believes the Azzurri have shown consistent improvement.
“Our squad is growing and the performances show continual improvement throughout the competition,” he continued.
“It is going to be a difficult match, but we are able to fight and bring home the European Championship trophy.”
Lippi has recently signed a contract to become the new manager of Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande but despite the time difference, admits he has become nocturnal in order to view the Italy matches.
"We are still happy to make this sacrifice and stay up all night to watch an Italy side that fully deserved to reach the final," he insisted.

Sensational Spain trampled all over those boring jibes and marched straight into the history books with a magnificent Euro 2012 final victory over Italy in Kiev. First-half goals from David Silva and Jordi Alba and late efforts from substitutes Fernando Torres and Juan Mata confirmed La Roja as the first team to record three successive major tournament victories, including a World Cup, with the biggest ever win in a European Championship final.

And they did it with the most awesome display of passing power, which made a mockery of all those who had questioned them beforehand. It was all too much for Mario Balotelli, who marched straight down the tunnel at the end and angrily shrugged away efforts from Italian officials to get him to stay, before returning for the presentation ceremony. Yet the thing was, Italy were not disgraced and would have held out hopes of a comeback until Cesare Prandelli's final replacement Thiago Motta was stretchered off within four minutes of his arrival, leaving his team-mates to battle through the final half hour with 10 men.
Ultimately though, Spain's display was a fitting end to the best European Championships in almost three decades. Four players in particular, Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Andres Iniesta and Xavi deserve a special mention after starting all three finals, in Vienna, Johannesburg and now Ukraine.But, as 'Ole' rang around this magnificent stadium, it was a night to glory in tiki-taka - and the players who put it into practice.

Throughout the tournament, the argument for Spain being a dour outfit had been building. It dominated the pre-match press conferences and was fuelled still further by Arsene Wenger, who accused the world champions of "betrayed their philosophy" by turning their tiki-taka style into a negative. After 15 minutes of the most majestic football imaginable, the greatest noise was the sound of all those words being rammed jubilantly down throats.

Coach Vicente del Bosque refused to bow to the demand for a regular centre-forward to be included in his starting line-up and was rewarded with a start the quality of which was on a par with anything this group of players has ever produced. Ramos had a couple of early efforts, so too Xavi. Andres Iniesta also had a shot blocked before Spain cut their opponents' defence to shreds.The move was astounding in its simplicity.

And who should be there to head home? None other than little David Silva, who had got free at the near post and flicked the ball into the far. By half-time, Spain had another.

Iker Casillas, Fabregas and then Alba, who fed Xavi and kept motoring.What unfolded can only make Barcelona thankful they had agreed to pay Valencia £13million for the full-back before the tournament started. His price would have gone up significantly otherwise.

Xavi has played that straight through ball thousands of times in his illustrious career. The pace on it was perfect. Alba, beyond Italy's back-line, steadied himself before sliding a shot calmly past Gianluigi Buffon.Under normal circumstances, the half-time statistics would have underlined Spain's superiority.

In fact, they showed Italy had played more passes and secured 53 per cent possession, almost unheard of against this Spain team.
With Casillas not enjoying his most secure evening, the Azzurri would have expected to create something meaningful. But the bounce of the ball would not go their way.

Casillas got in the way of a thunderous effort from Antonio Cassano and Balotelli fired over.
No-one could accuse Prandelli of lacking guts. Within 11 minutes of the re-start he had used all his substitutes and seen one of them Antonio di Natale bring a decent save out of Casillas after collecting Riccardo Montolivo's pass inside the area.

Unfortunately for Italy, the last replacement, Motta was only on the field for four minutes before he pulled a hamstring and had to be stretchered off.
It was dreadful luck for the Azzurri, who now knew their task was a hopeless one. All that was left was to stave off humiliation.

'I have always said that Mario Balotelli is one player that could become the strongest in the world,' Balotelli's agent Mino Raiola told Sky Italia.

In the match that took place in the early hours of 2 July Singapore time, Spain defeated Italy 4-0 to claim the trophy.
Many had anticipated a more even game, Lianhe Wanbao reported. The opening odds gave Spain level/half ball, meaning gamblers would lose only half of their stakes if the game resulted in a draw.
Punters were mostly unimpressed with Spain’s semi-final game against Portugal. In contrast, Italy had been playing well on its way to the final. When the match started and Spain took the lead in 14 minutes, punters still believed Italy would come back and reportedly started to bet more on Italy, hoping to recoup and potentially win more if the team scored.
It was a similar situation two years ago, when Argentina lost to Germany 4-0 in the World Cup. It was said that many had bet on Argentina to win the game. Those who bet $1,000 on Argentina before the start of the game doubled their stakes and bet $2,000 on the nation when Germany scored its first goal.
When Germany scored its second goal, they placed $4,000 more on Argentina. When Germany scored the fourth goal, the group placed a further $16,000 on Argentina, still hoping for a fight-back. By the time the final whistle went, these people have lost more than $30,000.
Many gamblers were believed to have suffered this fate with Italy, although it is not known how much were lost this time this time. There was talk that punters placed about the same amount of bets on each side before the match started. Once Spain scored its first goal, punters favoured Italy more heavily.
The wide score-line is unusual for a final, when the two teams are usually evenly matched. The stifled performance of the Italian players left some fans wondering if the match had been rigged, especially since Italy’s domestic league was embroiled in a match-fixing scandal.
A fan, known only as Mr Wang, told the Chinese daily that punters can only blame themselves for their misplaced faith. Other fans have voiced their suspicions online, with one asking how Italy could lose so badly after making its way to the finals.
Mr Teo Ser Luck, Minister of State for Trade and Industry, who is a sports fan, believes that Spain has won on its own merit. He added that the country has a strong midfield with players such as Xavi Hernandez pulling the strings. He added that a lot of Italian players cried at the final result and their feelings seemed genuine.
Mr Dennis Foo, CEO of St James Holdings, said Italy lost by such a big margin as it played most of the second half with just 10 men. He said around 1,500 fans watched the game at his club, packing the place to full capacity.
A 28-year-old accountant, who wanted to be known only as Ms Wang, said things did not go well for Italy with their injury problems. Yet another fan, who gave his name only as Mr Tan, said that despite the loss, Italy can be proud of being in the final and there is no disgrace in losing to a strong side like Spain.
