While the official opening is some days away, the first event begins today. Singapore will be taking part in the beach handball event.

Glutinous rice, coconut milk, pandan leaves.
These are ingredients that go into making kueh salat. But we mustn't forget the key ingredient that goes in homecooked food by our mothers — love!
It warmed my heart to join residents (most of whom are mothers) for a cooking demonstration with Chef Baba at Bedok this Mother’s Day. I have learned a thing or two here, and I’m ready to go home to try it out myself. Thanks to the Women’s Executive Committee for organising this wonderful event, and letting me bring some home to share with my wife!

Back in 2020, I introduced the CDC Vouchers Scheme to help families tide through the pandemic, while supporting our heartland shops and hawkers. From then, this ‘two-in-one’ scheme has been well received, with 1.1 million households claiming their vouchers and more than 16,000 merchants signing up.
Families and merchants will be happy to know that from today, every household will be able to redeem another $100 worth of CDC Vouchers. I hope this will go some way in supporting Singaporeans during this time of heightened prices.

What would work be like in the future?
Working from home and staggered work hours will likely become the norm. Gig work might become more prevalent. More “green-collar” jobs will emerge as sustainability gains momentum.
Much also depends on where the future economy is headed, as the future of work is intrinsically linked to the economy. The global economy is undergoing tremendous change, and so too the rate of change of skills.
To help workers and improve their lives, companies, unions and governments need to work in close partnership. I spoke about this at the ASEAN Future Of Work Conference and the HR Tech Festival Asia today.
With the rapid pace of change, we must redouble efforts to make the most of new possibilities. With mutual understanding and shared goals between workers and employers, we can change practices and transform our economy in ways that benefit all parties.

Shocked and saddened by the tragic fire incident at Blk 409 Bedok North yesterday that claimed three lives. My thoughts are with their family members during this difficult period. Tan Kiat How and his team are monitoring the situation closely and assisting the affected residents. I was touched to hear from Kiat How about the ways our residents braved through the incident and came to each other’s aid to ensure that everyone got out safely. This is truly the East Coast kampung spirit.
My thanks to the Singapore Civil Defence Force for putting out the fire swiftly, and all agencies and residents for their support and assistance. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
