Coincidentally in the same Clean & Green shirt with our National Environment Agency (NEA) representatives! NEA was one of the government agencies at the event to share the available programmes and resources that our members can leverage on to develop their ideas.

May Day is an annual occasion to reaffirm the Singapore way of tripartism. Our tripartite partnership has been the bedrock of our prosperity and social stability since Independence.
In my many company visits and engagements, I have seen how our unions, businesses, and public service work together — to transform companies and upskill workers. Collectively, we have created a more vibrant economy and improved lives. Tripartism has enabled everyone to benefit, rather than one at the expense of another. This tripartite partnership will be even more important, as we mark two new beginnings.
This year our fight against COVID-19 shifts from pandemic to endemic. For the first time in three years, a thousand of us gathered physically for May Day. But the fight is not over. The post-pandemic world will be fraught with more tensions and uncertainties — the Ukraine crisis being one manifestation. Against these strategic headwinds, the strength of our tripartism will allow us to remain fleet-footed, strengthen our resilience, and seize new opportunities.
This year also marks a new milestone in our leadership succession. Lawrence Wong took to the stage this morning, his first address to the Labour Movement as 4G leader. He spoke about how he and the 4G team will lead the “Forward Singapore” exercise to refresh our social compact, building on the spirit of collaboration and the strength of partnerships that have been fostered over the years.
Glad to see many familiar faces today. These brothers and sisters, together with the others who joined virtually, will help propel Singapore forward. We are counting on them, and on all of you, to build a better future for everyone.

Lawrence Wong's first address to the Labour Movement as leader of the 4G team. He shared how "every school is a good school" was a lived experience for him, and stressed on the importance of ensuring that every school continues to be a good school.

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri kepada masyarakat Islam di Singapura!
Tonight marks the end of Ramadan and the start of the Hari Raya celebrations for our Muslim friends!
I’m looking forward to seeing groups of families and friends out and about together in their traditional outfits after two years of mostly online celebrations. Bask in the celebratory mood and enjoy the festivities and gatherings with your loved ones! Stay safe, and take care!

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri kepada semua umat Islam di Singapura!
After two years of muted celebrations, this year’s Hari Raya is indeed a special and meaningful one as we make greater strides towards normalcy. It was nice to be able to physically exchange greetings with our Muslim residents and friends who were at Masjid Al-Taqua in East Coast for their Hari Raya prayers.
Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri!

A virtuous circle.
This is my description of what I saw when I visited the creative folks at content production company Vicinity Studio today.
It's a young company with a young workforce. In the past four years, Vicinity Studio has grown exponentially to a 40-person outfit, led by founder Kevin. I was most impressed by their strong belief in wanting to produce content which connects with and inspires people. What is also interesting about Vicinity is that the company is unionised. It also partnered NTUC Singapore to form a Company Training Committee.
A Company Training Committee is a virtuous circle. With support from the union and government, Kevin invested significantly in the upskilling of his workers and in new capabilities. In turn, a dynamic and energised team enabled Vicinity to take on many opportunities during the pandemic.
There are currently 900 of such virtuous circles, in companies large and small, new and established, and across all industries. NTUC Sec-Gen Ng Chee Meng 黄志明 and his team aim to create 2,500 virtuous circles by 2025.
There is no magic bullet to growing our economy and improving the lives of our workers. But these virtuous circles are an effective way that NTUC is partnering with our companies and the government to help our companies and workers grow.
In a highly contested and fractious world, our way of tripartism is a source of strength as we grow the economic pie in a way that benefits everyone. To all our companies — do consider being a part of this virtuous circle if you have not already done so.

With the use of technology, Aik Siang can now adjust the colour and intensity of the lighting in the studio with just a touch on the iPad. He joined Vicinity Studio through the SGUnited Mid-Career programme as a trainee, and has since become a full-time Gaffer.
