HSK chats with Micron people.

Heng Swee Keat

11 hrs ·

Chatted with Micron team members about their experience at Micron. Was also glad to hear that Micron has participated actively in programmes like the SGUnited Traineeships and Professional Conversion Programmes, and been a Singapore-Industry Scholarship sponsoring organisation since its inception in 2012.

HSK praises women business leaders.

Heng Swee Keat

11 hrs ·
Pamela, Sabrina, Rachel, Serene and Gillian — they are five of a growing number of women business leaders in Singapore.
They are passionate, driven and motivated leaders of their own businesses – a healthcare startup, a law firm, a coffee academy, a video production house and a skincare company – all while juggling other responsibilities, such as motherhood and volunteerism! Starting a new business is challenging enough. But they shared with me that compounding this was the skepticism and biases, often unconscious, that they face because of their gender.
I am glad that Rachel and the Singapore Business Federation launched the Singapore Women Entrepreneurs Network (SG-WEN) to connect women-entrepreneurs here – enabling them to achieve their fullest potential, promote women business perspectives, and shape cultural norms and policies.
I hope to see more women entrepreneurs inspiring others to take the path less trodden and stepping up to make a difference.
Happy International Women’s Day!

HSK cares about the earth.

Heng Swee Keat

5 hrs ·
“We care about our Earth.” Each time I talk to our young people – and indeed individuals of all ages – I hear their aspirations for a green and sustainable Singapore, for a Singapore that contributes what we can to the global effort.
We have listened to you, and are committed to advance our national agenda for sustainable development. Today, Teo Chee Hean, Grace Fu, Gan Kim Yong, S Iswaran, Desmond Lee and Chan Chun Sing gave updates on the Singapore Green Plan 2030 in Parliament.
R&D is an essential part of the agenda. Sustainability is a key focus of the Research, Innovation and Enterprise 2025 (RIE2025). Breakthroughs in these areas will make a big difference to our lives and our environment.
With individuals, households, and businesses all working together with a shared purpose, I am hopeful that we will make more good progress on our Green Plan, and leave a beautiful and more sustainable home for future generations.

HSK excited about Jia Jia and Le Le.

Heng Swee Keat

Le Le is four days away from 7 months old! He is a lot more grown up now and has moved from the nursery to be in the same enclosure as his mum Jia Jia at #RiverWonders. Glad to see Le Le exploring the new spaces.
Celebrated this exciting milestone today with the Mandai team and their chairman S Dhanabalan and vice-chair Tan Chuan-Jin. Also with us was PRC Ambassador Hong Xiaoyong. Something to look forward to during the coming March holidays!

HSK is extremely heartened.

Extremely heartened by the way the Bedok community rallied together after a tragic and unfortunate incident yesterday.
A fire broke out in a 4th floor unit at Block 27 New Upper Changi Road where a family of nine resided. Grateful to those who responded swiftly to the incident, including the Singapore Civil Defence Force and our grassroots leaders. The East Coast Town Council, Housing & Development Board, and members from the RCs and C2E all came together to provide the family a temporary space to stay, and various other essential items.
I visited the family today, and was saddened to hear that one of the family members had passed on in the hospital. My sincere condolences for their loss. My team is following up with other necessary assistance for the family. I also spoke to the neighbouring units and I’m relieved that they were quickly evacuated and are doing fine.
This incident has brought out the kampung spirit in the community, but it is also a reminder to us all about the potential fire risk of Personal Mobility Devices, and to stay vigilant.

HSK took a look.

Took a look at the unit where the fire occurred yesterday. I urge everyone to follow the necessary safety and fire precautions when dealing with PMDs.

Passed Malek some vouchers and groceries for him and the family to settle into their new space. Our grassroot leaders also took care of other necessary items such as tables, chairs, clothing and other items.

The school holidays are a good time for families to spend quality time together and rest and recharge. For something outdoors, you can explore the Coastal Playgrove at East Coast Park. Singapore's tallest outdoor play feature is an age-inclusive playground, which means it’s not just for the young, but also for those who are young at heart.

HSK comments about the budget.

Heng Swee Keat shared a video from the playlist Rising Above Together.

10 hrs ·
Zulayqha’s story is an inspiring one — she grew up in a rental flat and while she may have had less, she embraced the opportunities and support given to her and her family, including education subsidies. Today, she is a social worker who also gives back by volunteering in her own time to help the vulnerable in our community.
Over the years, the government has been spending more on social and support programmes. That is why in #SGBudget2022, we announced significant changes to our tax system, so that we can invest even more in our people and social infrastructure in the years ahead. Step by step, we must collectively strengthen our social compact and build an inclusive and just society, where every Singaporean is able to develop to their fullest potential.

Happy π (Pi) Day!
π starts with 3.14, which is why March 14 is designated as π Day.
π Day is a relatively modern tradition, but the approximation of this mathematical constant by humans dates back to antiquity.
π is an infinite decimal. With supercomputers, one can now compute π to more than 50 trillion decimal places! Such is the advancement of science and technology.
Science, technology and innovation will provide many new opportunities for all. On π Day a year ago, we launched the East Coast WinSTEM Bursary to encourage more women to study STEM in our IHLs. The inaugural run enabled more than fifty women to pursue their dreams.
WinSTEM Bursaries are again open for application. You can put in an application at go.gov.sg/ecwinstem. I look forward to seeing more women pursuing their passion in STEM.

HSK admires a seal.

Heng Swee Keat

7 hrs ·
This beautiful seal is not heavy – it is about the size of a palm, and weighs around 300 grams.
But it carries the weight of history. It has been used by the 新加坡中华总商会 SCCCI for nearly a hundred years, passing down from one generation to the next. The seal is a symbol of SCCCI’s long and illustrious history of over 116 years.
This morning, I was delighted to witness the 60th council president Roland Ng and his team, handing over to new president Kho Choon Keng and the 61st council. Roland and the 60th council have done exceptional work during a most challenging period, and put our business community on a stronger footing. I look forward to the new council building on these achievements, and leading SCCCI to greater heights!
