SFF X SWITCH is back – our annual innovation and FinTech and innovation event, which has attracted a global following. But due to COVID-19, almost all of them joined virtually.
The world is going through a period of rapid innovation. We must make the most of this window to improve lives.
I spoke about how we can harness AI, and how the world can create the right market factors for sustainability tech to scale.
I also took the opportunity to launch e-GIRO – the digitalisation of GIRO applications. Today the process is manual. Most of us would have filled in at least a few over the years. e-GIRO is much faster, with better user experience.
This is one of many ways we can use tech to build a much better and more exciting future.

Glad to know that this annual conference will now be a year-long programme where participants can learn, network and explore new areas of collaboration. I hope that more meaningful collaborations will be forged to improve the lives of our people and in the region!

HSK congratulates Business China Awardees.

After her son recovered from cancer, Mrs Jennifer Yeo started the VIVA Foundation for Children with Cancer, and has since been a tireless advocate and champion for children with cancer in Singapore, China, and the region.
She was one of three awardees at the 10th Business China Awards 2021 which I attended yesterday. Apart from Mrs Yeo, Ms Jessica Tan also received recognition for her trailblazing work at Ping An Group, where she is leading its efforts in digital growth and innovation. The last awardee was the China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City – a signature project of our bilateral cooperation.
Looking ahead, the region can progress a lot further if we can work together to ride the waves of new opportunities, in the areas of digitalisation, sustainability and beyond.
Congratulations to all awardees!

HSK was happy to have a dialogue with the Swiss Finance Ministar.

Heng Swee Keat

12 hrs ·
I was happy to have a dialogue with Swiss Federal Councillor and Finance Minister Ueli Maurer and his delegation of senior Swiss bank leaders on Monday. They were here to attend the SG FinTech Festival. We discussed emerging areas such as green financing, cybersecurity, and cryptocurrency.
Minister Maurer and I last met in early 2019, when I was in St. Gallen, Switzerland for the 49th St. Gallen Symposium. The world has changed since then, and I was glad to catch up with him again.
Switzerland and Singapore have much in common. We are both small advanced economies, and are global financial nodes. We can further strengthen our ties in a much more complex and uncertain future.

HSK meets with IES.

Over the years, I have met up with The Institution of Engineers, Singapore - IES quite a bit. They have been putting in effort to inspire young people to learn about STEM and to galvanise our engineering community to find solutions that can improve lives.
Each time we meet, their members are eager to tell me about the problems they’re trying to crack. Often, they do so with a real sense of enjoyment, saying, “We’re engineers — we love to solve problems!” Lately, I’ve noticed that our engineers not only love to solve problems, but also seem to love to start partnerships!
At the 5th World Engineers Summit, IES brought together 1,000 engineers virtually from across the globe to discuss ways that engineering can power us into a sustainable post-pandemic future.
I was happy to learn that collaboration is already taking place! I later learnt that two engineering firm representatives had chatted on the sidelines of the Summit and decided to bring their different expertise together on a sustainable environment solution.
This is exactly what we need — to draw on our different disciplines to collaborate and innovate. I hope we can see more of such collaborations for our resource-constrained world today.

HSK spoke at the 12th Caixin Summit.

Heng Swee Keat

2 hrs ·
As the world seeks to recover from COVID-19, there are many challenges ahead. At the 12th Caixin Summit this morning, I spoke about how we need greater global leadership to address these challenges.
We will have to strengthen global economic partnerships, finding ways to grow the global economic pie. At the same time, we have to ensure that the fruits of globalisation and growth benefit people.
Most importantly, we have to address climate change — this is an existential crisis. It is encouraging that there has been some progress at the #COP26 talks — including a joint pledge by the US and China — but much more remains to be done to restore our planet’s health.
Partnerships, People, and our Planet — I am optimistic that if we can focus global leadership on these key areas, we will build a brighter future for the world. You can read my speech here: https://go.gov.sg/caixinsummit2021.

Glad to be back in my former constituency in Tampines on World Kindness Day (13 Nov), meeting and chatting with beneficiaries from Social Service Agencies (SSAs) at the launch of Shaping Hearts 2021.
Joshua German, who was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder has perfect pitch and gave a beautiful keyboard performance. It is challenging for him to socialise with people but I was struck by his cheerful personality during our chat. Lily Goh, who is deaf, performed two beautiful songs in sign language.
I also enjoyed the inclusive art festival, which was part of the launch to celebrate the diverse artistic talent of the vulnerable community. Their strong spirit of perseverance and determination to overcome their difficulties is inspiring — the selfless love and care from their caregivers and supporters is an aspiration to me.
A big thank you to North East Community Development Council for playing a valuable role in caring for and uplifting the community during this tough time. Also, to all our performers, artists, caregivers and supporters — thank you for making this Festival such a success! Let us remind ourselves of the importance of being kind to one another and also to the world today, and every day.

Joshua German, a budding musician, performed one of my favourite songs, 月亮代表我的心 — The moon represents my heart, at the launch of Shaping Hearts 2021. He has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder since birth and received speech and occupational therapy from Metta School.

Thanks to Bro Swee Keat and his East Coast Plan, we can see how much East Coast has improved, and the spillover effect it has on the neighbouring Tampines GRC. Keep up the good work, bro!

It would indeed be worrying if HSK is not around to attend all the functions that he has time to attend because he has no portfolio.
