HSK looks forward to working with global partners.

More than half of the world’s population lives in cities today. By 2050, this number is expected to rise to almost 70%.
This year’s
World Cities Summit, themed “Liveable and Sustainable Cities: Rejuvenate, Reinvent, Reimagine”, explores how cities can shape a better, greener and healthier future. At the Opening Plenary this morning, I highlighted how innovation is central to urban transformation. To preserve their cohesion and dynamism, cities must continually evolve both their hard and soft infrastructure to keep uplifting their peoples and tackle shared challenges like climate change and aging populations.
To better harness innovation, cities must invest in science and technology, translate research insights into impactful solutions, and foster collaborations with one another. In Singapore, we are deepening our research capabilities in areas such as liveability and healthy cities, and low-carbon energy solutions. We are also applying research-backed innovation to our built environment to promote better health and well-being, including through therapeutic gardens and other wellness landscapes.
As a Global-Asia node, Singapore is also keen to foster collaborative innovation. Friends from more than 90 cities are participating in this year’s World Cities Summit, and there is much that we can learn from one another. We look forward to working with global partners in the years ahead to tap on synergies, catalyse innovation and build a brighter future for cities and people around the world!
