Glad to be at the Zaobao “Reading with You” event at HeartbeatBedok yesterday. This programme was on pause due to the pandemic, but now that it has resumed, our seniors can get together again to keep updated on current affairs. Some sessions are also conducted in dialects!
Also happy to launch the Zaobao centennial celebrations as they celebrate their 100th anniversary next year. I look forward to an exciting year of centennial activities!

HSK congratulated Dato’ Sri Fadillah Yusof over the phone.

Congratulated Dato’ Sri Fadillah Yusof over the phone today on his appointment as Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Plantations and Commodities. This is especially significant as Dato’ Sri Fadillah is the first Deputy Prime Minister from East Malaysia.
We reaffirmed the importance of bilateral ties between our two countries, and had a good discussion on ways to further enhance cooperation, including with Sabah and Sarawak. There is much that we can do together in areas such as the digital economy, green energy, and agriculture.
Wishing Dato’ Sri Fadillah every success in his new appointment!

How can our youths create a more sustainable future?
Early this year, the National Youth Achievement Award Council and SPH Media Trust posed this question to our youths in a National Writing Competition.
Wonderful to hear that they received over 300 entries, from primary to post-secondary students! Yesterday, I presented awards to the top six entries. Also had a good chat with them and others off-stage. They spoke with such passion and purpose.
I hope we can continue to inspire our youths to read and write, and as importantly, do more to protect our precious planet!

Happy to launch the Space Fest at Singapore EXPO. There are VR activities, workshops, gokart, and Singapore’s largest inflatable indoor playground at this fun space-themed festival, where everyone, young and old, can have a blast!
Space Fest will be on till 30 December. Do take some time out and head down with your families to have some fun!

HSK enjoyed his ding ding candy.

Pleasantly surprised to see ‘ding ding candy’ at our recent Bedok movie screening of “Turning Red”. I haven’t seen it in a long while so I’m glad children (and those of us who were once young

) can experience this sweet treat!
There were also other booths offering snacks like popcorn and malt candy at the screening. Glad to see our kids enjoying themselves and spending some quality time with their parents.
Our seniors will also have their very own day out at the cinemas next week. They will be catching the film ‘Ajoomma’. We hope we can organise more of such movie screenings and outings for our residents!

This is the ‘ding ding candy’ booth. The candy is made of malt sugar with sesame and ginger flavours! The name comes from the tapping sound made by the metal tools used to break apart the hard candy into small pieces.
