Goodness. I'm surprised people compare CSJ's letters with that of GCT and LHL letters to JBJ/KJ and say it's the same.

Are you drunk? I am saying Chee's letter is poor in comparison. I even spelt out why it is poor.

Why is this focus on a letter that would do more harm than good for the opposition?

Chee has his intent and it is showing. I dont think he and even the rest of SDPcare very much about winning the votes and reducing PAP's stronghold. The lack of positive objective can kill and losing the middle ground support seems very very possible now.

The question is: what can the opposition ( without SDP meddling) do to rekindle support before it falls off further? The opposition might have 25% in the bag as we all know that 25% are strict opposition supporters no matter what. How about the 50% middle ground? That should be the focus and nowhere else.

this does not appear to be a black n white issue...more grey n murky...just like life & history in general...

on balance a significant majority of singaporeans hv by n large gained fm Harry's governance(note i am sticking up to when he stepped down as PM in 90' or was it 91'?)...Harry appeared to be right abt say 70% of time which is pretty good going looking at our surrounding neighbours development between 59' to 90/91'...also as far as i know...nobody detained by Harry's ISD/security forces were murdered or suffered serious physical injuries...no doubt the periods of detention wifout trial especially in the cases of Chia Thye Poh, Dr Lim Hock Siew, Zaid etc caused a diffrent sort of suffering wif wide long lasting n painful ramifications...but sadly n unfortunately this is part n parcel of dynamic forces at play in the development n progress of any society...there is rarely a situation if any of 100% good being played out...

history shall determine Harry's legacy in due course...meanwhile as Teo Soh Lung has said:"...let us get on with our lives"...

Singaporeans by and large do not walk on a moral ground. They are bread and butter issues first and foremost and secondly they would like to be seen as nice people.

CSJ is making at least two generations of Singaporeans know of the dirty deeds of LKY, the gecko and the PAP. At least two generations of Singaporeans do not know a lot about Singapore as they have been imbued with fascist propaganda from the PAP.

As a sec-gen of an opposition party, he should have separated what he wanted to said into 2 letters. 1 purely a letter of condolence and the other, how people were detained for years by LKY.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong wrote a condolence letter on the demise of JBJ, addressed to JBJ’s sons Kenneth and Philip Jeyaretnam.

PM Lee wrote that JBJ “used to engage in heated debates” in Parliament probably because “he and the PAP never saw eye to eye on any major political issue and he sought by all means to demolish the PAP and our system of government“.

PM Lee said that this “helped neither to build up a constructive opposition nor our Parliamentary tradition“.

u forget Harry's "heavyweight political opponents" made the fatal error of boycotting the first GE after independance in 65'...the rest as they say is history...

My definition of a "political victory" is where political opponents go head to head in a campaign to win over the electorate. Lee's heavyweight political opponents never got that opportunity.

For me, Karma will find its way to go round. What you do unto others, others will do unto you. The PAP has not been kind in their words and actions towards people like JBJ who are against them. It is a matter whether one would showcase their kindness and empathy towards their most vicious enemies or opponent but it is totally another cup of tea for people like Locke to "demand" kindness towards the PAP while ignoring the fact that they are not that kind of people who would be kind to others, even in times of grief and mourning. It would be a bonus if people actually empathize and sympathize with their opponents in grief even though knuckle dusters have been used in every fight but it would only be natural for those who have suffered from such bashing to be unkind towards their bullies even when they are in mourning. That is karmic reaction, so to speak.

The question was simple - do you endorse or condemn the letters? Answering a question with another question to evade answering is disingenuous but won't work if you are exposed to be doing as such.

CSJ probably chose to release this letter at this time due the the focus of the country is on KGC's death and her funeral. Letter is timed for the maximum impact with the most people getting to read the letter.

What I persumed I understand from the letter is that - it is a mix of sincerity to plea MM to repent and let him(CSJ) off coupled with intent to list out the facts of his past evil deeds and to goad at him.
