Don't believe everything that Sham says. If there was CCTV footage, the school should have dealt with it on an internal basis. Since it happened on the school grounds, a suspension or expulsion from school plus some sort of written apology from the boy should have been the punishment. In the old days, there was public caning too. Where is the CCTV footage? Lets see it? Just block the face of the girl, and lets see for ourselves whether any molestation occured and if so, how bad was it. More importantly, where is the footage of the boy's interview in the police station. That will show how many officers were in the interview, the language they used on him, the intimidation tactics, etc. Very easy for Sham to smear a dead boy who cannot defend himself anymore.

Sir , with hindsight vision , Minster Sham said had Ben alive today only warning needed be given to him for his transgression.

Then Police could have done lesser. ??? Just my 2 cents worth .

TOC’s downfall and the unfortunate case of Benjamin Lim

Once upon a time, the Singapore political cyberspace was simple to understand. On the one hand, we had TOC which was helmed by Remy Choo and Andrew Loh and subsequently assisted by very credible people like Ravi Philemon and ex NMP Siew Kum Hong coming out with critical commentaries especially on the rising cost of living, the CPF and numerous other issues which thinking Singaporeans really think about.

On the other hand, we had TRE which was anonymous and hence totally sensationalist, feeding and fuelling hearsay and rumours, cursing foreigners in Sg and all in a typical trash news website. But people in Sg still love to read TRE and it far outstripped TOC in terms of readership.

Fast forward to 2016 ad the scene has changed dramatically. There are a plethora of sites contesting for eyeballs. And more amazingly, there are even pro-establishment sites, sometimes trying to be neutral, thrown into the mix.

Despite this variety of news sites, one constant is that you still have the erudite critical websites in one group and the sensationalist trash sites in another group. The main difference now is that the critical website like The Independent, The Middle Ground and Mothership all have professionals, some even veteran journalists helming these sites. And while TOC was the leader of this pack for a while, a brain drain has happened and these new sites have more or less wrestled away a significant fan base away from TOC.

Mr Shanmugam was referring to comments made by Mr Thio Shen Yi, president of The Law Society of Singapore on the case.

Mr Thio had also claimed in op-ed piece he wrote for the Singapore Law Gazette that there were five policemen who went to find Benjamin, and these five officers then escorted Benjamin back to the police station.

I would like to point out the fact that Thio Shen Yi is Mark Andrew Yeo's fellow director at Keppel Infrastructure Trust, which is obviously pro-PAP:

why there was a need to send 5 police officers to the schools to deal with a secondary 3 student who had no previous criminal record.

This is already answered in para ten of the ministerial statement. 3 from NPC, 2 from division. The NPC ones supposed to have community knowledge and there to facilitate process, the Division ones to do the investigation.

why cant the police pick up benjamin from his own flat and showing the police warrant to bejamin parents at the flat?

These questions are already answered in para 30 and 31 of the ministerial statement. When the police go to the school, they didn't know who was the accused person and his history (Benjamin was identified by school official based on CCTV screenshot). The unknown accused person could have committed other molests. If the police waited and he commit another molest in the meantime, the question would then be why didn't the police move in faster? As a general rule, the public will want the police to move in faster.

many question than useless answers were given by a Sr Counsel with highest skills in court craft ie bluffing thru his teeth....... wasn't it not his first wife who said he was a pathetic liar?? Why was she not sued & yet he made many veiled threats to those who commented during the long lull of no govt statement....... This matter is of intense public concern and yet this semi bald ah neh cast aspersions to those who even made comments of the concern kind.

why a long rebuttal covering it took one full page excl MOE's side clappings..........why? was there a cover up??
amazing that police process was correct from A to Z.......... unbelieveable
also the lull was out of respect to the family!! what a load of shit............ esp since when does PAP care about sgian or their feelings - look at LHL insisting that more f trashes will be coming in despite objections from true blue sgians whose jobs got repeatedly stolen.
