Umm.. brandwise, I don't remember the brand I bought but it's 2 second-hand 1000KW China made diesel generator used for powering industrial pumps. For your needs, I think 10KW - 20KW mobile gasoline generator is enough. Bought mine from a hardware shop in Baan Chang that sells welding machine but I believe homepro or homeworks should have the ones you need probably not on display. Don't overkill just for this incident. For your new house, yes, get the electrical designer to design a good generator system.

I don't want to be history. I escaped becoming history once already. Four of us (me and my GF, her sister and her GF) booked a Christmas package to Phuket for Dec. 23 to 27, 2004. just for a fun trip as it was well advertised and we were in the mood. We booked in Oct. but cancelled in Nov. since we lost the mood as her sister's BF got some gout relapse and went back to a Penang hospital (he's Malaysian) to seek treatment. We lost some deposits too but saved our lives. You'll understand what I mean if you remember what happened in Phuket Dec. 23 to 27, 2004.

"Hey this is exciting time in Bangkok you should come and be part of history."
Hahahahahahah. This made my day. Myself have been moody since yesterday till I read this.

Yes, very true and very real. Natural disasters do happen. See many good things and bad things also.

Good things, seeing many strangers helping each other without expecting anything in return. See people from opposite faiths coming together united to solve this problem. There is a mosque in Pattaya who has started their donating campaign to help the Ayuthaya victims. Also, many non-Thais volunteer to go to the flood areas to help out.

Bad things, also see, some looting did occurred when owners are not at home (my case was the Cambodian FTs). Opportunist businessmen going around selling service/things in need, sandbags, pumps, containers, storage areas, lorries at cut throat price.

Anyway, it's a good experience for me not to take things for granted. Wish everyone good health and may this be over soon.(Cos' i have not been able to do my laundry for last few days!)

Yes, remember this one very clearly. Was still in BKK when this happened. It look so unreal initially until when all the footage started to come in in the TV. Local channels, BBC, Bloomberg and even CNA. Only then I realize it happened.

This is life. Anything can happen, anytime, anywhere and anyhow.

Wish us luck then KYP, chonburifc and me and perhaps others in this forum who're in Thailand.

You saw my sandbags barricade right? I will complete it tomorrow. If all things turn out well maybe I don't even need the sandbags and I know my neighbours will laugh at me. But I will turn the sandbags into a machine gun emplacement to to shoot my neighbours if they don't behave and also their cats running all over the estate.

it's always better to be prepared. Many Thais also took things for granted after years of prosperity. Most never even think such disaster can happen. Think it's a good wake up call for the Thais to be more prepared for any natural disasters. Think the same for Singapore. Just because it did not happen does not means it will not happen. Nowhere in this earth is safe.
Tomorrow is a Wan Ork Pan Sa (end of raining day retreat), so will be going to the Wat to tam boon. Wish everyone good health.

You stack anti-flood sandbags like that in army style sure you're going to be flooded before the cats get you, LOL!

Get ready to pay more for Thai rice next week as major rice importers here are raising the prices of about 10 brands here due to the flooding situation in Thailand, reported the Straits Times.

These 10 brands—all premium—have a 40% share of the market here.

According to the Thai Rice Exporters Association, the price of premium Thai grain, a global benchmark, has jumped from US$988 ($1,260) to US$1,130 per tonne in the past six months.

E.K. Lim, operations manager of See Hoy Chan, a firm which supplies rice to supermarkets and provision shops say that after two years, his company can no longer absorb the price increases anymore.

The firm brings in popular brands Heavenly, Golden Phoenix, Golden Tiger and two others will be increasing prices next week. After the price hike, a 5kg bag of Golden Phoenix brand, which costs $13.50-15 will see a $1 increase while 10kg bags, which cost $26-28, will cost $2 more.

Another firm, Chye Choon Foods, which brings in the Peacock, Golden Prosperity and Golden Leaf brands will increase prices by 5-10% next month; while Topseller, which distributes Royal Umbrella, Golden Peony and Harmuni will charge up to 10% more by year end.

Supermarkets, on the other hand-- NTUC FairPrice, Shop N Save, Giant, Prime and Sheng Siong — have no plans currently to increase the prices of their housebrands. Only Cold Storage has been told by suppliers to expect a price hike.

I very much like to. I believe can buy one illegally in Chonburi.

Wahlau this is for mg la you mean you have not seen my house fortification at post #222 of this thread meh?

Can get firearms almost any town in Thailand, especially border towns. Just go to a coffeeshop at night and open bottles of beer to hoodlums and uncles and make friends. When they take you as a friend, they'll tell you where and how when you ask. I've lived through a Thai flood.

My apartment was 3rd storey. Fortunately, my flood experienced GF pre-ordered many big bottles of water and stocked up whole kitchen with supermarket food. The electricity wasn't cut. Everyday still having lighting and watching TV and making love. Only inconvenience was unsafe to go downstairs. Once food, water and electricity are settled, just wait until the storm blew over. Highrise no need sandbags.
