No. Don't wait for authorities. If cannot get good industrial pump, just get the normal pumps (or those used for fish ponds) from hardware shop or homepro/homework. Just get the higher flow capacity ones. Actually the other thing is the electricity. If no electricity, pumps also no use. Now, understand why my friend's pumps and generator are targeted as a motorcycle in the same place was left intact.

i intend to go get a mobile generator tomorrow to charge my mobile if I am stranded for a few days at home as I believe electricity surely cutoff.

I haven't filled a sandbag since my NS days. All that filling & lifting must be tough if you are a civilian:(

I hate sandbags cos I was one of them sappers before. So I now runroad to Thailand have people fill for me. Anyway I am very lucky to have a good gardener who come to my house to pick the leaves and take care of my small garden everyday. I asked him to take his pickup to buy some sandbags but must have sand inside. My stafff wanted to help me buy and told me it costs 55 baht without sand. But this gardener went around to get my 100 sandbags filled at only 40 baht. He is a wonderful guy because each person is only allowed 20 bags so he and his wife got to take turns going back to the queue. Anyway I needed another 100 bags and he will delivery tomorrow. He unloaded the bags to near the doors while I do my own "fortification" as I trust only myself to do it.

Sounds like warzone packing up defences against invasion. How's the situation at areas like Sukhumvit and Surawong-Silom now? You expect electricity to be cut at hotels too?

Hotels would have their own generators.

Sukhumvit and Surawong-Silom is quiet for now.

See SA02 - Victory Monument http://dds.bangkok.go.th/Canal/

It's 1.67m below the drainage outlet. Rajathewi is nearer to Silom, it's SA03, and it's 1.65m below the drainage outlet.

Wife and I just came back from dinner at Thonglor Soi 18. On the way there and back no sign of flood however quite a number of businesses have sand bags ready. Was already told if flood is imminent electricity will be cut for sure.

Generator set. Get those that can do auto switch over type and of course diesel. EGAT want to prevent accidental electrocution case so they will most likely shut off when situation get worst in some areas. Also if you have any electrical outlet in your outdoor, switch them off at the circuit breaker.

Fresh water alsoa MUST!!! In Prachin Buri, some villages do not have anymore fresh tap water. Probably trying to stop the supply of fresh water to reduce the release of waste water. All drinking water are delivered by PVC boat and rubber dingies by Thai Navy and Rescue volunteers only if they can reach the village.

Sandbag, each person 20 bags?? hmm.. can only blocked the living room door.

Yes, the hotels and complexes should have their own generators supplying electricity inside their own buildings. But in a serious flood, the electricity on public cables would be cut. That's not to risk any broken cable turning flood water into battery water and electrocute half the town.

I have a live in maid from Khon Kaen. Been with us for 2.5 years already. She's on leave for 7 days to bring her 10 years old son for holiday. Its school holiday now you may know. She will be back tomorrow morning. Wife and I love her cooking especially Isaan food but she already learned to cook Singapore style chicken rice and many other Chinese dishes. She's a very nice lady. Yes tonight's bill at this Japanese restaurant was pretty high but I thin I need to pay 2-3x more in Singapore.

Please explain about auto switch over. Thanks for the advise about switching off outdoor outlets.

I had already stockpiled enough water.

You saw the picture of my living room glass door? There're 45 bags there. I still require another 45 for the side and 20 for the back and 30 for the other door at the front. This add about 1m on top of the height of the house which was raised about 0.5m from the road.

OK, with autoswitch over generators, you can connect the generator to your mains and generator remains in standby mode. The moment the mains is shutoff, the generator automatically take over without having to manual start the generator. Previously bought a generator that has to be manual start only to realize my neighbour is paying slight more for the automatic generators that no need to do anything except to wait for power failure.

Yep, the electrical distribution/cabling in Thailand is damm scary. Looking at the electrical cable poles, it's already potential hazard even when there are no disasters.

You are Mengda, always play other people's wives.

I respect other people's marriages. I never knowingly hitch on other people's wives. That affair with the Thai woman officer was started with me thinking that she's single. She only told me that's she's married later.

Thank you chonburifc.

Do you have any brand to recommend and also some simple specs. I am using it only for like charging notebook and mobile. And maybe cooking rice.

I already planned for my new house to buy a really big one for the entire house.

HAHAHA. Very true! Many Thai Cha Bors always give you the impression they are single and available even if they are not.
