BANGKOK : Eleven people, including three policemen, were injured in a grenade attack late Sunday on the house of a former Thai prime minister in protest-hit Bangkok, police said Monday.

One person was seriously hurt in the blast at the home of Banharn Silpa-archa, who was prime minister from July 1995 to November 1996, but most of the victims suffered only light wounds, they said.

A number of small explosions have hit politically significant sites and army buildings in recent weeks in Thailand, where 26 people have died and hundreds have been injured this month in the worst civil violence in almost two decades.

Banharn was banned from Thai politics for five years in 2008 and his party was dissolved for electoral fraud.

Another grenade attack targeted a regional police station in northern Chiang Mai province late Sunday but nobody was hurt, police said.

Just like what they say: it's harder to move people than furniture (or equipment) Applies to both movers and stayers.

Seems like the reds have upped their ante on provinces and road blocks to prevent reinforcements to police and army.

Around the country, several confrontations between police and protesters were reported.

In Udon Thani, in the north-east, protesters blocked a major highway and prevented a convoy of police from reaching Bangkok.

Roadblocks were also set up in Nong Kai province and to the north of Bangkok, again aimed at police heading to the Thai capital.

Thai media quoted a red-shirt leader as saying that supporters in provinces outside Bangkok had been told to prevent police from travelling to reinforce colleagues.

The red-shirts - including many who back ousted leader Thaksin Shinawatra - believe that the current government is illegitimate. They want Mr Abhisit to call fresh elections - something he has so far refused to do.
