Are you guys sure YingLuck is pretty?

There is an interesting 'twist' to this topic. Men are less likely to give compliments to the looks of other men, especially if they view that other person as a 'competitor'. Like I have said, you need to possess certain level of confidence in the looks department to be able to give compliments to others, especially your competitors or perceived enemies. The logic is simple. A handsome face serves as a reminder. If you're not confident of your looks, another man's handsome face serves a blunt reminder that you're not handsome.

Bro KYP,

What's most important is a man exudes confidence. It's the overall package, the looks department is part of it. Yes as an academic exercise, we can talk about looks all day.

Trying too hard to be confident like a few forummers here smack of insecurity. ;)

Dun look like YingLuck mah.....

this one la, when young young one

I belong to the minority males who are always prepared to give compliments to my male counterparts. No many males can do that. You need to possess a certain level of confidence - self confidence. It's so much easier to condemn the looks of others, especially members of the same sex, and people of whom you are jealous. And I always see women beyond their make-up and fame. For example, the real Maggie Cheung is not at all pretty, and when she was at her prime, it took some great courage for someone to make such a stance.

Oh, this part I'm ok with.
What I was referring to about u not whacking MCH was his comment that u may be katoey and trans. :D

Don't really think that Thaksin is handsome, but I'm quite happy to comment on mens' looks as well.
For example, imho, Wang Lee Hom is handsome, while Jay Chou is ugly. ;)

I wouldn't say confidence is the most important. It's integral to the overall package. And being handsome would give you confidence, especially if you've been getting praises from the opposite sex. And then there is confidence generated from success in career. It's an aura that adds to your appearance, but if you're outright ugly, you can be confident but still unpleasant looking. And confidence, without humility, will almost surely make you look snobbish. Snobbishness is also an aura, but it doesn't add to your appearance. It subtracts.

And confidence is not something that you can "try" by yourself. Confidence is something that is gained through recognition, not created by self-reminder. Keep telling oneself that one is confident adds nothing to confidence. In fact, it's pretty the other way around. If you need to keep reminding yourself to be confident, it's probably because you lack confidence in the first place. This pretty explains your last sentence ... "smack of insecurity".

I have digressed. BTW, if, like you said, confidence is the most important in the overall package deal, then nobody should be condemning Thaksin. This guy is full of confidence, and he has wealth and achievements to back that up.

If you read through my explanation carefully, you would realize that why I did not whack someone who called me a Katoey just because I praised another man for his appearance. Or maybe I already did, but in a subtle manner ;)

Of course Thaksin is not handsome. I merely said he is 'sweet looking' because of his flat face. And dimples too will make a man look sweet, though not necessarily handsome. Really, you need some level of self-confidence to be able to give fair compliments, especially in favour of people you personally dislike.

Wang Lee Hom is very good looking (in fact he looks like Qin Han in his younger days), but like I said, completely lacking in manliness. This, I'm referring to his 氣質. You just cannot visualize Lee Hom or Andy Lau fucking the hell out of a woman. As for Jay Chou, he is someone I personally dislike because of his music. He is FAR from being handsome, but to be fair he is not ugly. He is just plainly not good looking at all.

Look for this cue - cute ! When girls say you're cute, you're probably lacking in that manliness department. You're probably in that 'toy boy' category.

I agree with you true confidence is based on deeds, not through merely self-talk. You talked about confidence derived via recognition or praise externally, that I couldn't agree with you. Confidence fed on by others are not sustainable.

Thaksin is a confident man no doubt. A very patient man, waiting in earnest to make his move since his enforced exile.

Was it his massive wealth that make him confident, or vice-versa? The debate can go on and on, I foresee. Well, at least we agree on one thing - Thaksin is a confident man and disagree on another - He is not "cute". ;)

Yes, I agree that confidence "fed on by others" is not sustainable. But it's confidence, nevertheless. Whether such confidence is sustainable or not is another matter for another day for another thread. But if you're born with good looks, your life path will be much easier and it helps your career too, especially for women. And it opens doors to many things, especially opportunity for achievements, on which your confidence is built.
