lol!!! Too long ago, forgot liao. I know is Indian and still remember how the goal went in though :p:p:p

SG greatest victory pre-2000 was beating North Korea(something that was recorded and bragged about all the freaking time). When in the world did we beat ever South Korea. And China is a weak footballing nation pre-2000 so no we have not regress
Don't talk cock here if you dont know the facts. China were good the in early 80s. They got to the final of the 1984 Asian Cup final. Lost 2-0 to Saudi Arabia.

I think you know little about football. You quoted" Japan was still considered a joke in football". Did you know that Japan was the only Asian country to win an Olympic football bronze medal in 1968 .
In 70s South Korea was considered among the best team with Iran. What do you mean slightly above Thailand and Malaysia. You have not mentioned about Myanmar, known as Burma, they will definitely the best team in SEA.
Those were the days during 60s and 70s. You can say Singapore is slightly above Thailand. Indonesian was also strong during the 60s, maybe on par with Malaysia with Burma always on top until the 80s. From that onward, Thailand took over.
You can also say France was not a good team until the late 80s, and also to all those Arabic countries started to become household name at that time.

There were up and down periods. I was time-capsuling as it was in 1980.

There was a time when Britain won three Olympic gold medals and England won a World Cup.

Olympic is not senior level football lah. That one is U-21 gin nah kickabout. Senior level and U-21 level different. Even if U-21 SG can thrash Brazil U-21 10-0 no one will care
If you dont' know the facts don't talk cock here. Olympics is a under-23 tournament, with 3 overage players allowed.

Thought Pinoy could win. They seem like a good team with all those foreign-based players.

Both Thailand n Sg - 3-time champion out !

The world has changed..

Wooden: look at Philippines, they bought in more FTs than us and therefore they managed to go to semi-final. Hence we need to bring in more FTs.

The Pinoys are mostly not FTs in the Singapore way. They're Pinoy citizen PRs in foreign lands coming back to play for their country, not bought.

Thailand and SG should swap their coaches.
It would be great to have Captain Marvel as SG national coach.

improve with a bunch of FTs.. yeah right.

Thailand teams consist real native Thais.. that should be something to be proud of.

Correct, very proud, 65 million Thai natives comaring to 4 million Singapore natives.

Very fair!!!

Why does it matter if he's 40? He's white. He should be good enough for Sinkieland.

We are regressing, not improving. 15 years on, we still can't ein the SEA gold.

We were in the FINAL qualifying match for the 1980 Olympics. That was how good we were.

I'm wondering whether U even follow the regional football scene. The SEA Games Football title have been replaced by the AFF Suzuki Cup(previously the Tiger Cup). The SEA Games is now an U-21 competition. We have never been regional Champion before 1998. After the first title, we won it 2 more times and are now equal with Thailand on number of AFF Cup titles

We made it to the 2nd round of the World Cup qualifiers back on 09. Something we have never been able to do

We were 1 pt away from qualifying for the Asian Cup, Again the closest we've been able to get since it entered the modern format :rolleyes::rolleyes:

And someone already beat U to correcting my Olympic mix up

Vietnam 1 Singapore 0
Pinoy 0 Myanmar 0

They played like shit in the first half. Same as the Myanmar match. Although they did good in the 2nd half, can't complain about the loss :(:(:(

I think a number of them hold Dual citizenship

once again, we choked at the crucial stage...like that Asian-cup qualifier, we also choked.

I will shrug and say ok, lets pick ourselves up and try harder if its a team of local lads - its okay...we don't give up.

But, we pump the team with FTs and yet they don't deliver - WTF. So what now FAS? More FTs? Back to the drawing board?

Yes, we regressing indeed, the local shit league is becoming an entertainment for punters and foreign workers only. And when FAS withdrew from M League, they claim they are to develope and bring our soccer forwards...have we took off from the starting line already? Or after so many years, we are still warming up?

Previous whipping boys - Laos, Mynmar and Vietnam are catching up. Even Philippines are giving us a run for our money...and if we look at the amount of funds and attention given by the governments there - they are almost non- existent. And we, pumping so much resources, still never achieve anything...

Please don't tok about the previous Cup wins loh, the last one, was kelong ok, very obviously so. The one before also kelong de...similarly, if we have proven ourselves worthy winners,..have we overall gone further?

We keep talking about winning a SEA games medal...where is it? We talk about WC 2010...ok, put one side, we dream too high.

FAS, you got to wake up your bloody idea. Your Shit league is not working...inviting foreign teams to play does not in any way raise the standard of local football. You even choose to omit a local team in favor of another foreign team when you expand the league teams. Have it bore fruits for you?

Bring back the Malaysia cup days...play against the Malaysian states - like that the players are more motivated, the fans will come. And send 2 teams instead...one main team and one feeder, like that you have a crop of 20 - 30 players playing regularly and you can groom talents from there. Singapore is so small, we are not a sporting nation (compared to Denmark who have about the same population). We don't need a local league.

Like that, the fans will pack the stadium, you have money in the coffers. Come on, now that SIN-Mudland relationship is hot, strike a deal...gosh, i miss those Malaysia Cup days...u really feel patriotic shouting "referee kayu"

It is obvious that you are another one of those jokers who still cling onto the MY Cup days and have no idea what is going on right now. The MY Cup standard is actually worse off then S-League teams. The S-League teams perform consistently better then the M-League teams during AFC tournaments!!!! Having 1 SG team in the M-League = we have a pool or 24. Having 12 teams(less 2 foreign teams) in the S-league = we have a potential pool of 240 players for the National squad

And since when was Vietnam ever the "whipping boys"? Just check back to the 98 version of the Tiger Cup. Thailand and Indon both kelong to avoid playing them and they are also the defending Champ. Please check your facts

bro...

look at s-league now....how many foreign teams are there?

at least 3...

have we improved significantly? Of course ideally, we would want to have our own leagues which is the bedrock of talent development and the national coach chooses the players from there...what is the KPI for a successful league:

a) good attendance - ok maybe no need like BPL with telecasts and all that - but at least 60 -70% attendance for every match. Why? Bcos the clubs need funds to develop and groom players.

b) competitive - at least relegation and promotion to stimulate performance. We have only realistically one league.

c) available talent pool. Yes, we have local teams, but they sucks. If you invite foreign teams to play, you got to ensure they are better and provide competition to the local teams. are they? The japanese team is treating this as a dumping ground. Same for Beijing Guoan...and what about the other Chinese team who was charged with kelong? And that African team...

Its like 10 years now since we have the league...and you see teams dropping in and out - firstly, its detrimental to creating a fan base. You need a fan base and loyalty to generate funds...at the end of day...clubs exist based on bread and money...only with this, they can pay and develope players. I remembered when S-League was conceived - all were local teams - Redhill Rangers, Geylang Eagles, SAF Rinos, Balestier Tigers, Gombak Bulls, Woodlands Rams...where are they now? Even the teams keep changing stadiums , names, etc...how to have fan loyalty...ok, teams drop out bcos they lack funds, why>? Bcos they cannot attract fans...

Why I support the participation back to M league - it is to create a situation / environment that the same core group of players can play together and gel in competitive situations. Almost every match is a country vs country match...and with fans packing the stadium, we have funds for development. And I ask that 2 teams, to provide enlarged pool and competition. Of course, back end we can have a semi-professional league to have local talents..these can be from schools or sports school.

at the end of day, we must create an environment where players can be motivate and play competitively...look at the indon league...only like that the overall standard can improve. Sure, some M_league teams are crap..but KL, Selangor are strong teams.

The most important, you get funds...money to allow you to do alot things...not like now, each team is depending on FAS funding...
